The player ratings have been released for the 2009 version of EA Sports' Madden series. After an initial perusing of all the usual suspects for each NFL team, I found one interesting rating under the headline 'morale'.
Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs is rated a 75, by far the lowest on the team. Despite his continual assurance that he is happy upon the arrival of his big money deal, the Madden series doesn't believe him one bit. And really, does anyone?

He's Always A Malcontent On Madden
On 08, it took me two Super Bowl victories before he got above halfway filled on his morale meter. And he only maxed it when I finally traded him to the Bears for draft picks.
On the plus side, I was able to work out a good deal to land Adrian Peterson so I didn’t miss him one bit. :)

He's good because
of his break tackle rating. That’s by far the most important for a RB in Madden.

If you are anything like me
Then you immediately trade all the best players so that you can build your team in your own likeness. I almost enjoy the off-season activities in franchise mode more than playing the damn game itself!

I Trade Pretty Much My Entire Roster For Young Players
Basically I never have draft picks my first offseason and I’m bordering on salary cap hell my second year, but after that I’m usually well below the cap and I have a young, highly-talented roster. Then in following seasons I trade off some of my young stars for picks so I can draft all the Jayhawks players I develop into college superstars. Madden is so much better than reality :)

Jayhawk players?
MU’s Tony Temple rushed for over 5,000 yards in his first 3 NFL seasons. Didn’t you hear??

I Draft Missouri Players Too
Actually, I tend to draft and trade heavily for players from the Big 12, as well as the football factories like Michigan, Ohio State, and USC.
This year, though, I’m thinking I might stick with the Chiefs’ current roster to see what I can make of it. They’re pretty young as is. I only broke up the previous teams because they had so many old guys. I’m pretty sure Croyle’s not going to stick around as my starting QB, though :)

Mix and Match
I usually do a little mix & match action, I like to spend a year or two with players that could/should be starting in real life. Of course, after season one things start to look drastically different. I have this strange loyalty in Madden though. I used to always get Trent Green a Superbowl ring before trading him off. I’m not sure what I’ll do with this year’s team though. I can’t believe LJ is a 75, that’s pretty much poop.
I draft Mizzou players, but it’s usually because my program at Mizzou churns out some elite players (drafting from NCAA to Madden). At one point in 07 I think I had like 10-12 Mizzou guys on my team, and like 8 of them were starters.

LJ is a 75 in Morale, not overall

well that makes more sense
But I believe you can purchase a custom Jay-Z suite for your stadium in the offseason. It allows Jay-Z to come to all of your home games and it caps LJ’s morale. It has a pretty horrible cost/earnings ratio and once you dump LJ or he retires, it’s pretty much worthless. There is no option to remove it. It is horribly permanent.

The best part about the Chiefs
Was that their line used to be over 30 and rated pretty high. That equals a ton of picks because Madden doesn’t seem to take into account with trades…

Check the sales
Yeah, they do.
Actually, probably moreso these days because they have exclusive rights to the NFL.

Sadly
That exclusive license has been nothing more than a license for EA to put out a degrading product because they’ve got no competition. Frankly, I think the NFL gives a damn about how well the video game represents their sport…they just want the quick licensing buck. Like I said earlier, at least EA finally woke up and fired the joker who’d been running Madden into the ground for the last couple of years. I’m sure he meant well, but he was really horrible about getting a quality product to market.

It’s still better than any of the competition has been since NFL2K.

I definitely
don’t think that Larry Johnson is a player that just wants to chase rings or money. He is a Chief for his career unless traded.
