Wearing Jerseys Uncool?
I was listening to Mike & Mike in the Morning this morning and they were laughing at hockey fans, who all seem to wear jerseys to hockey matches. They laughed at the idea that wearing a jersey with another player's name on the back who may very likely be younger than you is a fashion faux pa.
I'm not real sure when M&M became concerned with fashion statements, but they just feel like jerseys are something you wear when you're a kid, then you become an adult and they are no longer "cool."
They then answered a bunch of mail from viewers and scoffed at them as they suggested that wearing jerseys are a perfectly acceptable form of attire.
I personally think M&M got a little snobby here. Anybody agree?

Pfft
Its like people laughing at you for taking your baseball glove to a Royals game. Who gives a crap what other people think. If you want to do it, do it.

Is it a Faux Pas to rip off a younger, funnier Medium?

Look, the rule is this, if you are in a position to care what people think of what you’re wearing then you should not wear a replica jersey. If you are granted the grace not to care by virtue of age (young or old), intoxication, rabid fandom, necessity (the homeless like sports too) or insanity then said fan should not be judged.
Typically if I see an individual wearing a football jersey out of context, like at the supermarket, then I’ve probably judged him on something other than his sartorial decisions. If you’re some yuppie wearing your Steve Bono jersey to the California Pizza Kitchen, well then, you probably deserve the ridicule, it you’re wearing your Jared Allen jersey with the name scratched out to the Harley Davidson dealership, who am I to judge.

I have an LJ jersey
and I wear it to every Chiefs game, whether I’m going to it or watching from home. I also wear it to watch the draft and my fantasy drafts. I think Mike Greenberg wishes he was born a woman.

This is strange.
I mean, I’ve heard this kind of talk from my wife, but not other sports fans.
I wear a jersey every Friday during the season, and when the guys get together for Sunday football games, we ridicule anyone who owns a jersey and isn’t wearing it.
I’ve got no problem with people wearing jerseys at random times. In fact, I saw a guy wearing an LJ jersey the other day (which is always cool here in Arkansas, the land of college sports).

"I overwhelmingly find myself not caring about this issue."
And yet, I (and others) took time to cast a vote and state that opinion in a poll. Ironic.
Must be curiosity and the sense of virtual community created on this blog site…

Yeah
For one – who cares what anyone thinks of you. Above all, we shouldn’t be ashamed to wear Chiefs stuff no matter the circumstance.
I only wear a jersey on game days (either watching on TV or to Arrowhead), but there’s a reason.
I only have one jersey – good ol’ DT himself. It’s pretty special to me. My mom got it for me somewhere around 93-95. At the time, she couldn’t find an official one with his name on it so she took it to a local sporting goods store and had the name sewn on the back.
Now the numbers are fading pretty badly so it doesn’t have too many washes left in it, but I’m proud to wear it for every game. I’ve actually gotten plenty of compliments on it at the stadium.
But if I would see someone wearing a Drummond jersey this year…well that’s just asking for it.
TOUCHDOWN! KAN-SAH-CITY!!!

Its Different in KC
I say wear a jersey if you want especially at a game or watching a game thats fine. However, after having to go watch the Chiefs games at bars in DC overwhelmingly filled with Eagles, Redskins, Giants, and Jets fans I feel like it is a different right of passage for those fans. Everybody wears a jersey out there and it gets to be a bit annoying. A) All of those fans are annoying so whatever they do I’m going to judge them B) I actually witnessed an almost fight between a Giant fan and a Philly fan. The Giants fan was wearing a Giants sweatshirt or something the Eagles fan was wearing a jersey. The Eagles fan actually said (while pushing the guy) “Where’s your jersey? You don’t even support your team, why don’t you go buy yourself a jersey, support your team, then come talk to me”. So this doesn’t really answer the question but in general KC fans are good football educated people rather than the losers that get trotted out every Sunday on the East Coast.
