4.) Branden Albert (Kansas City) - Can you imagine Brodie Croyle on this past draft day? All he heard going into the Draft was that the Chiefs were going to get him some offensive line help…and they give him a guard they will be converting to tackle, and a 6th-round draft pick. Thanks, fellas.
Did Croyle sleep with Herm’s wife? Did he run over Clark Hunt’s dog? As I stated earlier, I feel sorry for Croyle - and now he has a rookie left tackle who has rarely played the position defending his blindside. Shawn Merriman must be licking his HGH-fueled lips right now in anticipation of lining up against the Chiefs. (1 point)

Oh Well
Personally, I didn’t think Croyle was going to be all that good anyway. If we’re going to have a QB be a sacrificial lamb behind that line, might as well be him, and Huard. Maybe we’ll be able to snag Quinn in a trade after that or find somebody else worth drafting. Hopefully Kuharich isn’t as clueless with QBs as Peterson has been.

All I got to say is...
Merriman got blown the beep up by Maurice Jones-Drew last season. I think without the HGH help, his outstanding numbers will decline.

not a fair evaluation
The o-line will be a little above average at minimum… Branden was scouted at left tackle by several teams. He has all of the tangible skills and he is intelligent (making the line calls in college even when he moved to LT for 2 games). The only knock could be that he has very minimal experience but they say he is the best blocker in space that the draft has seen in years which is good for someone left on an island at LT.
Give Croyle a chance… if he sucks this year then start knocking him.

Not So Much Knocking Croyle
As saying that he hasn’t done anything (and that includes his college career) that’s made me think he’ll be anything more than an average NFL QB at best. He might prove me wrong, of course, and I certainly don’t think we should be grabbing Leftwich or some discard to plug in, just saying that I’m not expecting a lot out of Croyle so it doesn’t bother me all that much that he’s behind a horrible line this year. Someone’s got to play QB while those guys learn their job, so it might as well be him.
Not wishing the guy an injury or bad fortune either…he seems like a decent sort and I’m sure he’s trying hard and doing his best. And if he turns out to be pretty good, I’ll be cheering for him same as I would for any other Chiefs QB (well, except for Todd Blackledge…he cost us Dan Marino).

what?
Have you looked at Croyle’s college statistics or anything? They are pretty good, not to mention he was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s outstanding senior quarterback. His pre-draft knock was that he was first round talent but that he wasn’t quite ideal size (not that big of a deal, he is taller than Drew Brees) and he was at risk because of the surgeries he had on both knees in college that haven’t bothered him yet in the pro’s. His durability is no concern to me after the beating he took last year and only was hurt once and that was because he tried to throw his body around and tackle someone.

I Have Looked At His Statistics
Here they are, in fact…
http://nfldraft.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=8551
The only season where he cracked 60% completion was his junior year where he only had 66 pass attempts because he tore his ACL (the second time he’s done that). He’s been injury-prone in all but his senior season in college (cracked ribs, separated shoulder, two blown ACLs) which hasn’t gone away once he hit the NFL (back injury). He was interception-prone in all but one of his full seasons in college, which carried over to his playing time in the NFL. As for the Johnny Unitas Award, so what? Out of 21 Unitas award winners, three of them have gone on to become franchise QBs in the NFL (and that’s if you’re somewhat charitable about Eli Manning)...only five of them turned into full-time NFL starters (if you’re charitable about Rodney Peete). Croyle lost out on the award to Matt Leinart, and it’s not like that guy’s been setting the world on fire. College awards are meaningless in judging NFL talent.

Like I Said
I’m not hoping for the guy to fail…I just won’t be particularly surprised if he does.

Not true!!!!
“He was interception-prone in all but one of his full seasons in college, which carried over to his playing time in the NFL. “
TOTAL BS!!!! Croyle’s 1.18 interception percentage was the lowest single-season mark in Alabama history. He once attempted 190 passes without an interception. His 4 year QB rating was 128.4. The low number of interceptions speaks of his ability to read defenses. These records are why he was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award.

Albert and Jones
I think you are going to be surprised by Albert, and the word is Jones is doing a great job at RG.
