Barry Richardson Signed!!!
Link:
Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a three-year contract with T Barry Richardson. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. Richardson is third Chiefs draft choice to agree to contract terms, joining fourth-round selection WR Will Franklin (105th overall) and fifth-round selection CB Brandon Carr (140th overall). Richardson (6-6, 319) joined the Chiefs as the club’s first of two sixth-round picks (170th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. He played in 49 games (45 starts) during his four-year career at Clemson. Richardson started every game over his final three seasons for the Tigers, earning first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in 2006 and 2007. As a senior, he anchored an offensive line that led the ACC in scoring at 33.1 points per game and finished second in the ACC with 403.2 yards of total offense per contest. The Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina native was a three-year starter on the offensive line at Wando High School. Now we need to get the rest of our picks signed.

Not to be a downer
But we really know nothing about this guy. I know we have scouting reports and the occasional college film clip.
But can anyone honestly say they are comfortable judging Barry Richardson’s talent?
I wish him the best but I just don’t have any concrete info to go. Especially for a 6th rounder.

Oh no you didn't!
You take that back immediately :) As you know, I have been a huge fan of Richardson since the beginning of the off-season. I guarantee that if he had a mean streak and actually played like he was 6’8”, 330 lbs. he would have been 1st day talent. Somebody (Herm, Gailey, hell even LJ, or Tony, or Bowe) needs to light a fire under his ass (if the money he just made doesn’t) and I think we may have a starter on our hands (not this year, but in the near future).
You are a downer, Debbie
With an offensive line as putrid as ours, and a 6th rounder with a legitimate opportunity to play, we gotta get excited about something!
Chris, you have stated before that you like Herm’s scouting abilities and the past two drafts we’ve had. So shouldn’t that be evidence enough that Richardson’s got something?

The later round guys
will probably start rolling in over the next few weeks.
Note: I took down the front paged FanShot in favor of this FanPost. Thanks for the heads up!
Chris wasn't
Will Shields, Dave Szott later round guys, and were successful in this type of scheme? Hell as big as he is he could stand still and slow guys down better than most from last year.
Long time no see
Big difference between guards and tackles in terms of draft position.

Whats up PT?
Yeah, just the thought though.
Late round picks
The way I look at it is every player drafted in the 5th round or later is a bust until he proves otherwise. I love the guys the Chiefs picked, but lets face it, theres a reason these guys are picked late in the draft. Sometimes there is something physically about them, sometimes theyre too slow or too short or dont have that killer instinct.
Lots of late round and even undrafted players turn out to be fantastic players in the NFL. But the odds are against. So while Im real excited to see Herb Taylor and Michael Allen and Richardson play, I always keep in mind theres a reason they were picked where they were.
What?
How can you say every player later than the fifth round is a bust until proven otherwise. There are only seven rounds and when you get to the fifth round and later it is all a reach. The first three rounds can be called busts. Usually your late rounders are special teams players or practice squad guys.
Interesting point regarding definition
So cmpotter, you’re saying the word “bust” implies worse than expectations. That’s probably a good point. Although I took DJs use of the term in this context to simply mean a player who will not stick with the squad. And as Chris’ post from a month or so ago pointed out with data, the odds of players past the fouth round making major contributions starts to be a real long shot. (Brady and other major exceptions noted. Just going by the overall numbers.)
Course, maybe with lots of holes, and the current administration’s seemingly superior scouting ability to grab contributors like Page, low rounders will have higher odds this year.
Oh I get it . . .
Now this guy is going to play RG, right? Can somebody get me some tape, I think that’s a whole I see in the bottom of this boat.
Did I type "whole?"
Was that a Freudian slip. Could the bottom of the boat be missing? Hmmmmm.
