I am extremely optimistic about the Chiefs’ future prospects and I am extremely excited to watch our youth develop. I truly believe that in 2 or 3 years, the Chiefs’ patient approach to team building is going to pay much larger dividends than teams spending money to win now (i.e. the Jets and Raiders). That being said, realistically, this team is good enough for about 6 wins this season. Sorry, Chiefs’ fans.

Can't Disagree With That
The NFL has a steep learning curve, young players take time to develop and we’ve got a lot of young players.
Even if they go 3-13 or 2-14, though, I still think the Chiefs will be more watchable (and probably more competitive) than last year’s team. That 2007 offense was absolutely brutal.

Competitive
our defense did it’s best to keep us competitive last year, and I’d say with the exception of the DEN fiasco, we were competitive in most games for at least 3 quarters…but after we go 3 and out eleventy times, eventually our D was just worn down, and couldn’t win it for us in the 4th quarter (see the OAK game at Arrowhead)

I Agree
The defense is in a state of flux too, though, with the loss of Allen. But pass-rushing defensive ends are a lot easier to find and/or develop than standout defensive tackles, so if we can get one of our guys to step up or if we can snag one in free agency or next year’s draft we’ll be much improved…just probably not this year (especially since it’s baptism by fire for our young cornerbacks this season). I think we’ll be a little better on offense and probably substantially worse on defense to start the year, but that things will get better by the end of the season. That’s why I lean more towards us being 6-10 than I do 10-6.

I Wouldn't Rule It Out
Of course I also wouldn’t rule out 3-13 or 4-12. With this many rookies and young players there’s really no way to predict if we’re going to be somewhat respectable or downright awful. I find it doubtful that we’ll see the better side of .500 this season, but then I think that long-term having a losing season this year isn’t really a bad thing for us. If we squeak into the playoffs we’re probably not good enough to get very far and it’ll only cost us talent in the draft next season (since I suspect that “pass-rushing DE”, “franchise QB”, and “dominant MLB” are going to be high on our wish list so we’ll want the best possible shot at getting one of those). Personally, I’m rooting for the Chiefs to get a shot at Rey Maualuga…I think that would be a major stepping stone towards defensive dominance.

No Way But Up
The Chiefs will be over .500. Mistakes will be made, but the D is better and the O is better. We had a dominant player in Allen, but now we are are looking at a shared load. One player does not make a team. The sum of the whole is much greater than the one. I really can’t wait to watch them in action. Playoffs? Not likely, but there is a great chance for 8 – 8.

Whoa
but the D is better
We lost Jared Allen and have a lot of rookies in the secondary mix. So while our rush defense will probably be improved, our pass defense took a huge hit this offseason (at least in the short-term).
and the O is better
Very possibly not (again, at least in the short-term). We’ve got a lot of rookies and question marks at our biggest problem area (offensive line). One of the top candidates for the #2 receiver spot (Will Franklin) is a rookie and it’s exceptionally rare that rookie receivers are productive in their first year…especially when they’re selected outside of the first round. And Brodie Croyle has not yet demonstrated that he’s capable of being the leader of this team in an NFL game.
We had a dominant player in Allen, but now we are are looking at a shared load.
Among a lot of rookies. Rookie players usually make mistakes…a lot of mistakes.
Not likely, but there is a great chance for 8 – 8.
I don’t see it. San Diego should be dominant again this year. Oakland (although I don’t think they’ll be great) has improved. Denver is always a problem for us. We’ll be playing New England, Tennessee, New Orleans, Tampa Bay and Buffalo this year and all of them are quality teams. Miami is going to be better under Parcells’ regime, so they can’t be considered a guaranteed win. Carolina got their QB back and dumped DeShaun Foster so their offense will be better. So even if we split with every team in our division, we’ll still have to pull four wins out of a non-conference schedule that includes the AFC champions, the NFC South division winner, a 10-6 playoff team, and several teams that were in the playoff hunt until the end. We’ve only got two teams that finished worse than us last year in that schedule (Atlanta, Miami) and both have made significant improvements this offseason.

I'm with ya
If we pull 8-8 it will be amazing for this team. I will be impressed for sure.
There will always be teams we feel we should beat. No game is a guaranteed win. Ask the ‘07 Ravens (Miamuh) and Pats (G.I. Ants).
