Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

It looks like undrafted rookie K Connor Barth has survived the first cut and will attend training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs. Veteran kicker Bill Cundiff was released.

I definitely

“had a feeling” about Barth after watching this clip showcasing his mental fortitude.

Yeah

I think he’s going to make the cut as our kicker this year. Seems more grounded than Medlock and he understands that repetition and treating practice like the game is the key. Anyone who watched “Hard Knocks” should have realized that Medlock was going to struggle when he was minimizing how important the results in practice were.

Also

Whereas Medlock was consistently a mediocre kicker in college whose stats were padded by a good senior year, Barth was an above average kicker all through college whose stats were brought down by a really bad sophomore year. In the two years since his sophomore slump, Barth hit 90% of his field goals.

Great Prospect

I want to believe in him. Your post about his stats is fantastic. We have been struggling with field goal consistency since Jan Stenerude. He was a kicking machine if I remember correctly. The ability to get within 40 yards and trust the kicker to score points is HUGE for us. The last couple of years it has really hurt to turn it over with no points and great opposing team field position instead of kicking off. Sometimes the impact of the kicking game on the attitude of the offense and defense is overlooked.

Whoa...Did You Forget About Nick Lowery?

You can’t forget about Nick the Kick…he was an excellent kicker, even if he couldn’t blast a 60 yarder on his best day.

and his commercials

what the heck was he always doing commercials for, Peter’s Clothiers?

he did have a pretty kickin’ cop-stache too. Looked like he would smear black-out on his upper lip.

Nick Was A Pimp

The dude knew style. His old teammates were apparently shocked when he finally got married this year.

Of course, he looks a little ridiculous now that he’s still trying to dress like a 20 year old at 51.

On A Completely Irrelevant Tangent

One of the stories I found about Nick Lowery getting married had this link that had nothing at all to do with Lowery but is perhaps the funniest piece of unintentional comedy I’ve seen this year (if you pay attention to the names).
