"I don't know what reason I would be blackballed," said Vanderjagt, who recently worked out for the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs.

"If they're going to blackball somebody, then we've got some issues in society.

"I've never been arrested, I've never (had) DUIs ... I would think there would be more guys ready to be blackballed than me. The fact that I've had workouts means that 'Don't Touch Vanderjagt' isn't necessarily the situation."

VanderJ....... is a CFL'er

It was reported (up here) on the weekend that he signed w/ the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He had previously played for the Argo’s before moving to the NFL’s Colts a few years ago.

So he’s out of the Chiefs picture for 2008.

He May Not Be A Felon, But...

...he’s developed quite the reputation as a high-maintenance flake and all-around jerk in his last couple of gigs. In Dallas, he apparently either couldn’t or wouldn’t do kickoffs, which pissed off Parcells (particularly since he started missing easy field goals). He had a habit of saying really stupid things when he was in Indy, like insulting Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy in the press. It takes a lot for Peyton Manning to throw a teammate under the bus, but he was pretty open about his dislike of Vanderjagt (he called him “our idiot kicker who got liquored up and ran his mouth off.” in an interview).

The difference between a great NFL kicker and an average NFL kicker is actually pretty small when you think about (and there are plenty of average kickers around)...so why deal with a guy who’s a pain in the ass when you can find somebody else who’ll be happy to have a job and who’ll keep his mouth shut? Basically, Vanderjagt got “blackballed” because he’s not a good enough kicker to make everyone forget what an ass he is.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Not fan .......

of the Colts or MVJ – in fact I have no use for either. But having watched that play-off game, Peyton could have tossed underneath for a 10-15 yard completion instead of throwing (incomplete) WAY downfield leaving his kicker a 48-49 yard F.G. to tie the game. After all he hadn’t missed a single kick ALL YEAR. (He did miss that one ugly though:)

Ah the mindset of a kicker – aren’t they all flakes of some sort or another ??

On another note;

I did see MVJ interviewed (Canadian sports channel) and asked about his “Peyton comments”. He claimed that his words were taken out of context and then blown way out of proportion. (Gee does the media really do stuff like that – you mean I can’t believe everything I read in the paper – who knew ??)

That said – I hope he never makes another kick – I’m not a Toronto fan – Go Stamps !!

Quotes Taken Out Of Context

That’s the most frequently used excuse for pro athletes who try to blame the reporter for the stupid things they actually do say. Having heard most of the interview, it’s not likely he was taken out of context for his remarks. He said critical things about Dungy and Manning, his full sentences were used, and his teammates obviously believed that’s the way he felt. That’s the same interview where he also claimed that he was a better team leader than Manning because he yelled at people sitting on the bench.

Vanderjagt’s an idiot, and there’s only so much b.s. that a team will put up with from its kicker.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

True enough !

I didn’t see the “damning” interview – just his response to the interviewers query. I also hadn’t heard the “team leader ” reference before – clearly some things are better left unsaid when there’s a microphone in your face – especially if you’re a kicker.

Wide right !!! Stamps win !!

CFL or not – I get to watch some football in a couple more weeks !! Thanks god hockey is done after tonight !!
