Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a four-year contract with WR Will Franklin. As per Chiefs policy, no other terms of the agreement were made available. Franklin is the second Chiefs draft choice to agree to contract terms, joining fifth-round selection CB Brandon Carr (140th overall).
Franklin (6-0, 209) joined the Chiefs as the club’s fourth-round pick (105th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. He played in 48 games (36 starts) at Missouri, catching 143 passes for 2,125 yards (14.9 avg.) with 13 TDs for the Tigers. His 143 receptions and 2,125 receiving yards are each tied for fourth in school history.
Franklin started all 11 games as a junior in 2006, catching 48 passes for 829 yards (17.3 avg.) with six TDs. He was named honorable mention All-Big 12. His 829 receiving yards in 2006 ranked as the seventh-highest single-season mark in Mizzou history.
The St. Louis, Missouri native was named all-state, all-metro and all-league as a senior at Vashon High School. He caught 37 passes for 907 yards with 17 TDs. Franklin was also a standout basketball player.

Two down
Nine to go, if we end up wanting every draft pick.

Are there any we don't want?
I haven’t heard anything to make me think that any of them might not be signed, other than the fact that Merritt hasn’t been involved in OTA’s – does anyone else know of anyone we might NOT sign?

Not sure exactly
I just know from doing those draft recaps back to 1997 that not all 7th rounders make the team.
I feel like it’s pretty wide open when you get to the lower tier of guys.

Remember alot of those years were during the Vermeil era
If you weren’t a 1st day pick, Vermeil really didn’t care about you. During one press conference after a draft, Vermeil didnt even know who they picked in the later rounds. One guy I heard about never even met or talked to Vermeil before he was cut.
Herm looks at things alot different. The late round picks are just as important to him as the early ones.

Merritt's Probably Not A Priority
He’s a 7th round TE who’s so unheralded ESPN didn’t even have stats on him, and we’ve already got Tony G, drafted Cottam, and have Michael Allan on our roster. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chiefs didn’t even bother to make him an offer. I suspect he’s just leverage to get Cottam a little cheaper.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

He will fight it out with Allan
unless ( and this would be unusual, but it’s possible) we keep 4 TE’s…if you run a LOT of 2 TE sets, it might not be a bad idea. Here is how I see it
Tony = God
Cottam = Fantastic blocker, unknown receiver
Allan = Fantastic Receiver, horrible blocker
Merritt = Fantastic Blocker, horrible reciever
If Cottam can catch the ball well (which I think he can, he just never had many thrown his way at Tenn), then I say Allan would get cut, as Cottam could be Tony’s “replacement”...if it doesn’t look like Cottam can catch worth a dawn, then I say Merritt will get cut, so Allan, once he improves on blocking, can be Tony’s “replacement”

four TEs
will certainly not make the roster. One of the three not named G- will either be cut, or placed on the practice squad at best. Merritt at best will do a Jason Dunn impression, minus the few receptions. Allan seems to be an afterthought compared with all the talk about Cottam who has all the physical tools, but has never stayed healthy enough to show what he can really do. The few time he did play in college though, he looked very good.

Blocker vs Receiver
In our new offensive scheme, who do you suppose has the advantage, “Fantastic Receiver, Horrible Blocker” or “Fantastic Blocker, Horrible Receiver”?
