Mike Lombardi chimes in on Croyle "Frail type player"
KC'S NEW OFFENSE
Chad Gailey has taken over the offensive reigns in Kansas City and here is what Pro Bowl tight end, Tony Gonzalez had to say:
"I guess I’m kind of struggling," tight end Tony Gonzalez said. "They’re bringing me along. So when they say, ‘Break,’ I’ll go up to Brodie (Croyle) and be like, ‘OK, what do I got here?’ He’ll tell me. Then you go play football from there."
Gonzalez is a smart player and for him to not have instant understanding of the offense would make me a little worried if I worked in KC. If Tony does not understand what he is doing then I can promise you there are several other offensive players with the same concerns.
The key for the Chiefs and their offense will be the play of the offensive line and most of all the play of quarterback Brodie Croyle. Herman Edwards the Chiefs head coach and Carl Peterson, the General Manager have much riding on the ability of Croyle to lead the offense. Croyle is similar to Kellen Clements of the Jets, frail type players, that may not have the bodies to hold up to the contact and physical pounding each week in the NFL. Croyle will surprise me if he has the skills to be a consistent starter in the NFL. From playing the Chiefs twice last year while I was with Denver, Croyle looked like a back up player.
The Chiefs offense will be a work in progress in terms of the talent on the field and based on Gonzalez, they will be one in the class room.

Frail Type Article
I guess ignorance is bliss. If you don’t know the correct first name of a team’s O-Coordinator “Chad”, then the credibility of the entire article is in question. Then, he doesn’t even factor that Tony has been out for the birth of his baby as the reason he is asking Brodie about his responsibilities at the break of the huddle. “Kellen Clements”?. What a joke!
In actuality, the more this type of “in depth understanding” of our team gets out through the media to the other teams, the less they will consider us a threat. I have confidence and as long as our players have confidence, I really don’t care what anyone else thinks, or says. The record, “W’s” listed in the left column, are what count. Let them laugh, and let the new Chiefs stand proud.

If this guy doesn’t know the names of the people he includes in his articles why the hell is he writing in the first place? Chan and Clemens next time big guy….

Agreed !
He comes across as uninformed and I didn’t like the tone of the article. This guy promotes himself as an “insider” expert on the NFL (see bio snipet below). In truth, his (prior) Bronco affiliation appears to have tainted his objectivity with respect to the Chiefs.
(Chad ?? Okay, that just made me laugh – nice try Mike ??)
“I have been an NFL executive for over 20 years, working for Bill Walsh, Marty Schottenheimer, Ernie Accorsi, Bill Belichick, Jon Gruden, Bill Callahan, Norv Turner and Mike Shanahan. Now, writing for SI.com and at times will appear on the NFL Network. “

I disagree
I think Brodie Croint is a frail player. Much like Joe Muntana, Peon Manning and Terrel Bradshaw. All of those guys never made it in the NFL because they were frail.

Tony G
Yeah, Tony Gonzalez isn’t understanding the offense…maybe because he’s been away from the OTAs and mini-camps? He’s been excused from most of these workouts, and trips to the classroom. Not to mention there’s around 2 months before they play in a game with the offense.

and it’s only been OTAs… if the other TEs, who are rookies, are getting it already, i dont think it’s going to be a problem for tony, not when youve learned plays like
‘red flag zip right 435 thunder’ or longer. that’s just a retarded article by someone wanting to get his name out so he can get more facetime on nfl network or hangin with marty or whomever.
