Kansas City got the A-plus in 2008. Based on my board, the Chiefs reached for a player only once in their 12 picks. And it was a minor reach. They took a player in the fifth round who I had rated as a sixth-rounder on my board.
It's the first time I've given Kansas City an A in the 17 years I've been grading drafts. Congratulations, Chiefs.

Not Just The Chiefs
He also said that this was the first time he didn’t give out any Ds or Fs in his draft either as he thought that 2008 was the best year drafting for the NFL. Got to say, I was thinking the same thing as we reached the end of the first round…I couldn’t see any obvious reaches for the first round picks and very few in the second. I wonder if that had something to do with the shorter clock? Maybe forcing teams to have their trade plans preliminarily set up before the draft started so there weren’t as many panic moments?
All I know is that I hope they keep the same format for next year.

I'm sure they will
It was much more exciting.

And Much Less Annoying With The Commentary
I think that 10 minutes per pick in the first was about right. Much more than that and the analysts run out of stuff to say halfway through the round. Plus, since teams pretty much had to have the groundwork for contingency trades lined up in advance, it seems like fewer of them were interested in waiting the full allotted time. It felt like the selection arrived right as the analysts said everything they needed to. Although, I’m only talking about the NFLN analysts…two minutes would be plenty of time for the ESPN analysts to say everything we need to hear them say (basically just whatever Mel Kiper’s got).

Reach
I think Jacksonville reached BIG time to get Harvey, but they can afford to…they needed one piece of the puzzle, a DE, so they went and got the 2nd best one.
He's tiny!
He’s smaller than Dwight Freeney, and likey not as good. I thought Harvey was a reach too. Maybe they know something we don’t.
For all the people that were bagging on Gholston for being small and a tweener… nobody gave the same criticism of Harvey, who is actually smaller than Gholston. Maybe he’ll pack on some pounds and prove me wrong.
In the end, I think they freaked because they need someone to deal with Peyton and Vince. Speed to try to penetrate that Indy O-line and get pressure on Peyton, and speed to contain and chase down VY.
