Brandon Carr interview
Here's an interview with 5th round pick Brandon Carr, CB Grand Valley State. He says everything one would hope from a good prospect and even a bit more. Here are a couple of excerpts:
TheFootballExpert.com: Describe your game in three words or less.
Brandon Carr: Smart, technician, battler
TheFootballExpert.com: What is the one thing you will most miss at college?
Brandon Carr: Fellowshipping with various different cultures of people.
My apologies if someone already posted this.

Carr is one of the players I am most excited about this year.
His immediate contribution is less predictable, and his upside is potentially incredible. We know less about him and, therefore, the anticipation and hope for success are greater with the unknown.

Nice find
Couple of things I really liked about the interview:
TheFootballExpert.com: What NFL player do you do you think you compare favorably to?
Brandon Carr: Champ Bailey
*Like to see that confidence in a CB
TheFootballExpert.com: Describe your game in three words or less.
Brandon Carr: Smart, technician, battler
TheFootballExpert.com: When you get your first professional paycheck what is the first thing you will buy?
Brandon Carr: I am not much of a material man. I have a 1-year-old daughter and I want her to be taken care of. I have been thinking about getting the best insurance policy and to start her a savings account.
- One thing I hate is the immaturity some guys coming out of college display in having all their money already spent before they even get it. This statement by Carr tells me that he is responsible and is beginning to see that there are more important things in life than himself (in this case, his daughter)

The front office liked his intelligence.
And that came through during one of his promo videos (sorry, I forgot the link). If he is truly thinking about his daughter before himself, he is exactly the type of player we need.
He is, by far, the rookie for which I am most rooting this year. I would love to watch Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr grow and learn this season despite the growing pains. Watching them grow and become our KC secret (along with the other rookies) is worth the wait until 2010-2011.
We just have to preemptively extend them before they hit their contract year, if they succeed. We could potentially have 2 top corners, 1 top DL, 1 top OL, and 1 top RB to re-sign all within 1 year of each other. And that is if the “plan” succeeds.
Hoping for great players in 1 or 2 drafts means you are going to have to payt a lot of money on all of their second contracts. It is one thing to have a plan, it is another to actually execute the plan during it’s most crucial phase (re-signing).

I am sure that they will consider that
when they sign all these guys…Dorsey and Albert will likely get longer contracts (5 years) and I could even see them staggering those two (say giving Albert a 4 year deal)...Flowers and some others will get 3 maybe 4 year deals…and even then they can resign them at different times – if Dorsey takes off, resign him after his third year get it out of the way

I hope so.
Tamba and DJ are close to the re-signing “red zone,” and the front office will show us how serious they are by how they handle these players. There is no reason to not extend them when the time comes. The time for DJ is midseason this year at the latest.

DJ is not in a contract year is he? He shouldn’t be that expensive, I mean he’s good, but he’s not DeMarcus Ware good.

An exciting player
I love this kids attitude. This seems like it could be one of those steals in the draft that is referenced years down the road. Has anyone seen the youtube clips of this kid? He is a ball hawk with great tackling ability and size. Dare I say that the two Brandons are the heir apparent to Carter/Hasty that we have all been patiently waiting for? Regardless, I am excited about the defense in general and the direction they are heading.
If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.
