Chiefs Predicted to Miss Playoffs

Mike Florio, Sporting News ( via Yahoo ) writes an article about six teams that people think could make the playoffs, but he predicts won't.  Is it a compliment or a slam that Chiefs are the third team on his list?

On the surface, the addition of the Chiefs to this list is a no-brainer. The franchise is in obvious rebuilding mode, and coach Herm Edwards expects nine of the team’s 12 draft picks to suit up on Sundays this fall.

But I’ve added them because some Kansas City fans don’t seem to realize that the team is closer to the bottom than the top. Indeed, there’s a strange sense of swagger that comes from a franchise that, in reality, has nothing to swagger about.

We're a pretty realistic bunch around here.  I see people having us win from 4-8 games on a pretty regular basis.  Yet, there's also a streak that says, "Hey.  These new guys are pretty good.  And we do have some decent anchors and players coming back who were gone or not at full speed last year.  Maybe playoffs are possible.  The NFL is known for turnarounds."

I think the O-line, defensive backs (mostly CBs) and Croyle are going to need some time to gel and the first few regular season games could be disappointing.  Yet, the defense was vastly improved last year.  Kept us in games.  Should be even better this year, even without Allen.  And anything can happen in the NFL.  I'm reluctant to build my hopes too high, but one of the reasons the Chiefs get more TV viewers on a bad day than American Idol does for the finals with a kid from the KC area, is that you don't really know what will happen...  Playoffs anyone?

And I also say: Let's keep the swagger.  There are plenty of reasons to hold heads high, be proud and be optimistic.
