More Barthy Goodness

I know we're all fans of Connor Barth here, so this link should entertain.

Tuesday was the first day that I woke up and had butterflies since I landed at the airport on Sunday in Kansas City. I knew that today was my big day to show what I could do. I got up at the nice early time of 6:40 to a wake up call from the front desk. Since I didn’t have a rental car yet a bunch of the rookies all piled into the vans and headed over to the stadium.

I was very hungry this morning so I headed straight to the buffet and when I saw that they were serving egg whites this morning my face lit up because that is my favorite dish for breakfast. When I was living at my house in Chapel Hill I used to make an egg white omelet almost every morning before I went and worked out.

After breakfast I headed into the locker room to get changed for the day. Since kickers have so much free time because we don’t have to study the thick play books like everyone else I usually take some time to stretch and loosen up the muscles in my legs, to get them woken up a bit. After all of our meetings I got my practice jersey, helmet, and cleats and headed out to practice. I knew that today was going to be my first chance to impress the head coach and show him what I could do.

As soon as I got out to the practice field I went through my warm up and got ready to kick. When my special teams coach yelled out for the field goal team, I jogged over and got mentally ready to perform. I went out and performed the way that I wanted to and made all three of my field goal attempts.

I was satisfied, but I knew that this was the first of many days that I would kick with the team and I know that I am going to have to be ready every practice because the two kickers I am competing against are very good and never miss. They are pros.

After practice I headed back to the hotel and relaxed for a bit before I went out to eat at Longhorn Steakhouse with some of the guys. I talk about eating a lot because I love different food and especially a good sweet potato and I knew Longhorn had them. We sat around and talked about how blessed we were to be able to put on a Kansas City Chiefs helmet and go out and play the game that we love. It was a great day because it was my first taste of what it was like to kick with the team and I am enjoying every second of it.
