2008 Interceptions with Poll

The Chiefs tied for 23rd in team interceptions with 14 in 2007. Chargers led the league with 30 INTs, while the next best teams were the Colts and Titans with 22. Quite a drop to second place. The three teams at the bottom only had 11 INTs each.

Better this year
So it looks like the average thought is that INTs will go up from last year’s 14. For all the turnover in team personnel, I’m surprised that we only lose (so far) people who made 3 of the 14 INTs. Just two of the eight guys who made inteceptions are gone.
Losing Allen will hurt the INT numbers because we know the importance of a pass rush when it comes to getting interceptions, but we gain Dorsey and presumably a better inside rush. I generally expect good defensive line play, and while they will focus on run first, I think Tank and Boone will get more QB pressure this year. I think Demorrio Williams will turn out to be a good addition. And the new safety Morgan is a ball hawk who will get burned, but will also make plays with the relatively few minutes he’ll play this year barring injury to other players.
I believe Brandon Flowers will start, and that opponents will be throwing his way more often than Surtain, but we’ll see. So Flowers should get some INT opportunities just because of the number of balls thrown his way. Carr may be replacing Surtain halfway through the season.
