Devard Darling's background

I just read that Devaughn Darling, Devard Darling's twin brother (and teammate at Florida State University), passed away in 2001 due to complications from sickle cell anemia.  You can read more about this at the following links:

http://www.asonefoundation.org/

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/pac10/2002-07-30-focus-darling_x.htm

After Devaughn passed away, Devard transferred to Washington State.  This entire experience must have been pretty tough for him.  Although I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, this experience may have provided him with additional inner fortitude.  Of course all of this transcends football and I am a little embarrased to focus on the football component.  Nonetheless, this information may be relevant for forecasting what type of player he may become.  (My apologies if this story was already discussed on this site.)

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Devard

has the sickle cell trait too, which as the article says, means he has a higher risk of exercise induced death.

Sad story. Those really get me.

I believe that the Seminoles cut him from the team

or revoked his scholarship or something, and that is why he ended up at Washington State.

Yes, very sad

Yeah you are right. I am sorry for the downer. However, one of the really nice things about this site is that the fans are real people with real feelings and we don’t always focus on wins, personal stats, etc. Your comment really drove this home for me. Thanks again for your work!
