Moving Pollard

What about moving Bernard Pollard to the OLB position in 09. Donnie Edwards is getting old, and Napolean Harris wasn't very productive last season. I think for 09, we move Derrik Johnson to the Middle Linebacker position, Demario, Williams, take over Donie Edwards spot, and then move Pollard to the OLB position.

Pollard as been a bit of a disappointment for me. He tears it up on special teams, having three blocked punts, in his two seasons, but I don't think he can play at the Saftey Position at this level. He is one of the biggest safties in the NFL, and he his a very hard hitter, so why not move him into the linebacking unit.

I think Dejaun Morgan will start over Pollard, in the last few games of he season. He is a very athletic saftey, and some say that he was the second best safety in the draft. We can't leave out Pig Brown, he was probablly an early round pick before his injury. He had great awarness for the ball, and he was a very smart player, don't be surprised if he gets some playing time.

That's just my thought for Pollard in the future.

Why all this talk...

about moving Pollard. Where did this start? Are we really riding him off after one year of starting. And Morgan is too small to play SS, he is a prototype FS. Pollard is not Roy Williams, he has some covering abilities. And DJ at MLB? And Pollard might be big for a safety, but he’s small for a linebacker.

I agree its ridiculous

Last year was the first year Pollard got to play Safety since his rookie year he played exclusively on special teams. He did not play nearly as bad as some people have gotten it into their head he did. He was the 4th leading tackler on the team behind the linebackers.

Morgan is going to get plenty of playing time for the same reason Tank & Turk will even though we have Dorsey now. There is a rotation of guys on defense so they stay fresh. I predict we will see Morgan in as Strong Safety alot in obvious passing downs and Pollard in most of the rest of the time to help shut down the run.

Its crazy how fast people are willing to give up on players. Must be from playing too much Madden.

i agree to an extent

i feel the reason he had a lot of those tackles that made him our 4th leading tackler was that he was put into position by how often we were getting burned deep. However, i definitely feel like he showed good potential. I just think the tackle numbers may be a little skewed

Pollard’s skillset, I believe, benefits greatly from the arrival of Morgan, who’s a better pure safety than Pollard is.

I don’t think Pollard should start over Morgan when Morgan’s ready in about a year, but Pollard could still have a LOT of use on this team. We play the nickel a lot; Pollard would be a great nickel linebacker because he’s got the body of a smaller linebacker and he has the aggression to hold up. He should also play safety on obvious run plays, as he’s a very good run-stopper.

How can we say Morgan is better than Pollard

When he hasn’t played a single down in the NFL? Pollard is a young guy in his first year playing Safety in the NFL. Those guys make mistakes. When Morgan gets in there, you can bet he’s going to make some mistakes too.

Taking out Donnie Edwards?

Maybe I’m just a Donnie Edwards fan, but I don’t agree on taking him out just because he’s “getting old.” He’s still one of the best. Pig Brown didn’t get a free agent contract with the Chiefs. I think Pollard should stay in the rotation with the safeties. There’s nothing to suggest that he’s not going to be a good safety in this league with a little more playing time.

No...

Don’t give up on Pollard. I heard one theory of why people dogged on his coverage skills – because he had to make up for Law’s mistakes all the time. He was forced into coverage duty that he shouldn’t have been because gool ol’ 24 was obligated to fall down a number of times each game. Sound familiar?

I think he’ll be just fine with our upgraded play at corner.

Once again I think we’re letting our college players get into our heads too much considering Pig Brown didn’t even get an offered contract for the Chiefs and you’re considering puttin him in there, he didn’t make the team! I love this site and I love 99% of the fan posts, the one thing that kills me is how much we talk about players from kansas, kansas state, and missouri. I agree with Vince, Donnie is done when he says he is, not otherwise…he is still one of the best at his position and will not decline that much, not to mention if law and surtain werent getting burned so often we wouldnt have so much pressure on pollard and page, I believe pollard is going to be good solid player for years. He is pure talent and there’s a reason herm picked this guy.

Pig = still injured

Pig Brown hasn’t recovered 100% from his torn Achilles last season. If I were a team, I wouldn’t sign him either until I were sure he were recovered and I were sure that he didn’t lose a step after rehab.

If he had finished his season at Mizzou healthy, we wouldn’t be having this discussion because he would have been drafted.

something to consider

Everyone remember about two/three years ago when Ray Lewis got hurt and wasn’t playing like the Ray Lewis everyone knew? It was because he lost his big bodies on the line. The following draft, they drafted Haloti Ngata and things were better again.
Picture this line – Tamba/Turk – Tank – Dorsey – Johnston
That’s a massive line.
With those bodies on the line, they can help shed those blockers – helping out the LB corps.
Then, these guys we have can play the way they did when they made their names known.

/i’m high on that DE Brian Johnston by the way/
