Why not get Doucet?
OK, I’ve been popping in and out for a while, trying to keep up with my team, but I’ve got to know: Why didn’t we draft Early Doucet in the third round? I can understand getting Charles at #73, but getting Cottam at #76 was mind-boggling. It seemed like the organization figured they could relax after getting solid value from the first three picks, and just finish out the draft to plug holes in the roster. Why would they take a filler guy when they had a chance to draft a difference maker?
I don’t have a specific problem with the players picked, but I’d like another perspective as to why we didn’t pick Doucet, arguably a first-round talent, who happens to play in a position of great need. Is there anyone here who could explain the reasoning?
81. Early Doucet
84. Harry Douglas
95. Mario Manningham
97. Andre Caldwell
All of these WRs were picked after we selected Cottam.

Doucet saw a fairly significant drop off in stats this past season from 2006. Perhaps scouts thought that the presence of Jamarcus Russell and Dwayne Bowe really helped Doucet put up his big numbers in ‘06?
I think he is a reciever that does better
when matched against safeties, linebacker or nickel backs. He is more of a third option which is part of the reasons for his stats dropping off a little. Also they would rather run the ball and a big TE is more beneficial at that spot then a second or third receiver.
We didn't need a WR
that early…we have Bowe and Webb as 1 and 2 unless Darling or Franklin can win that #2 spot, and I am happy with Bowe/Webb as the starters.
I may be wrong, but isn't he more like Bowe...
Like a possession receiver kinda wideout? If so, I would rather take Franklin, a burner, as last season we needed someone who could stretch the defense more than anything.
BroCro has a huge ass arm, hopefully we will get to see it sometimes this season with Franklin running deep routes…
I listened to 810 all day and
everyone of the hosts (even guest Kendall Gammon)kept saying that Cottam will fill Jason Dunn’s blocking TE role, except he will probably catch a few more balls. I wonder who will be the guy to catch LJ in the endzone? Cottam, Albert, Waters, or B-Rich?
