Wait...what?

RB,TE? wtf? and i don’t understand burning a third rounder on Morgan at all… i figured that guy to be a fourth or fifth round talent

have you seen my baseball?

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 11:15 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

RB, TE, etc

Jamaal Charles is a kick returner as well as a 3rd RB. If he can have success on special teams with the Chiefs, I think he’ll be worth it.

Cottam at TE is an ok pick. He’s a huge dude, 6’8. Big target. Herm had said they wanted another TE. Personally I was hoping they’d get Rucker and develop him at Tony Gs future replacment, but oh well.

Morgan I dont know much about. He’s either going to be a 3rd Safety or a Nickel CB. He played CB alot in college.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

and it may just be the Mizzou fan coming out in me, but I don’t understand the Cottam pick when Rucker was still available. Cottam was injured alot and only started 10 games…Rucker started all 50; and broke kellen winslow’s records in the process.

have you seen my baseball?

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 11:31 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I kind of liked Rucker too

Only thing I can think of is they may want a TE that can both block and catch and Rucker isn’t the best blocker.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 11:35 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rucker unproven as a blocker

Rucker pretty much only blocked from the WR stance… he almost never played on the line… maybe 1% of his plays, seriously. It doesn’t mean he can’t block, but he is basically unproven as a blocker on the line where he would take on linemen and linebackers instead of safeties, corners and occasional LB’s when spread out.

The Chiefs were looking for someone to replace Jason Dunn. He won’t be a starter because of Tony G, but when we run some twin TE formations and run, it is good to have a big physycal TE that can tear it up blocking.

by Ochophosphate on Apr 27, 2008 12:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

yea, i know.

my comments aren’t posting 1/2 the time. but taking a player who didn’t play a whole lot, and has been oft-injured vs. taking a player who started all 50 games… that’s the main thing i was looking at.

having said that, i still don’t buy into cottam. but i will reserve judement until i see something more out of him. chiefs did so well on the first day, i will just let them do what they’re doing.

seriously, i'm confused...

Why in the hell did they take ar RB over a WR with the first pick? it makes no sense to me. i’m also pretty surprised to see anthony collins fall this far. he’s undrafted yet, as well as booty.

Guy from WI said Anthony was no longer on Chiefs radar

Don’t know what possible reason there could be, but apparently they have no interest in him.

Franklin?

I know there are some Missouri homer here that think it is great. I dont mind having him, but I think he could have been had later…..not sure about this one.

by mikeumkc on Apr 27, 2008 11:17 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I like Franklin in the 4th

We need a fast receiver to stretch the field and Franklin ran a 4.37 40. Good slot receiver in my opinion.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 11:19 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think they could have had better talent in the 3rd, but whatever. the morgan pick is really puzzling…. the guy is touted as a project that could turn into something special.

seems really risky as a 3rd rounder.

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 11:24 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Morgan

What Im reading about morgan on NFL.com is that he is raw, but has a ton of potential with good coaching (and you know how Herm likes coaching his DBs). But that he is also a very good special teams player. As bad as Special Teams were for the Chiefs last year, if they can get a good ST player that will also develop into a good player in the future, it might end up being worth it.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

true.

i guess this is why i don’t work for the chiefs… but i’m going to hope these are their BPA picks.

have you seen my baseball?

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 11:32 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it just seems like

the chiefs big impact was really going to made in the third round. they wanted to get 5 starters in this draft, but i still only see three. we basically drafted 3 special-teamers in the third at this point. it could work out fine, but i like the 4th round pick.

have you seen my baseball?

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 11:47 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Depends on what they do at TE

Herm said they are going to do alot more 2 TE stuff with Gaileys new offense. If that is the case, Cottam may end up being a starter too.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 11:50 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jamaal Charles

is the change of pace speed back that neither Johnson nor Smith are. I thinks he’s a decent pick. Still I would have loved to see Collins or Nicks come off the board in the 3rd for the Chiefs though.

by stram#1 on Apr 27, 2008 11:51 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Nicks

Nicks is actually still up there. I dont think we take him though. He’s already 25 and has had off the field issues

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 11:58 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If thats the case

they’re still a lineman short in my view.

by stram#1 on Apr 27, 2008 12:00 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Where's The O-Line Help?

Chiefs passed on a lot of guys who could have been plugged into the line to take Cottam and Franklin. Franklin’s not a horrible pick, but I have no clue why they passed on Zuttah or some of the other lineman that everyone made a run on after we got Franklin. Just adding Albert (a guard converting to tackle) to our line is not going to be much of an upgrade over last year, and that doesn’t bode well for either the running game or the development of Brodie Croyle (who deserves a chance, even if he’s probably not going to be all that great). I gave the Chiefs an “A” for their first-day drafting, but 2nd day drafting is definitely a “C”.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Jamaal Charles

I do like the Chiefs drafting him, though…he’ll be a good complement to Larry Johnson. I think he was a steal this low.

We all were happier with the picks we have made so far

than those over here.

All three were really good value, including Morgan who probably would have been a first rounder had he gone back to school and came out in 2009…

by rockchalk on Apr 27, 2008 12:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

with all the other needs

i think there could have been better picks made. we still need oline help in my opinion. the 3rd round picks are kinda suspect. while i like morgan and charles, i don’t think morgan was going to get taken before the 4th. could be very wrong about that though.

most likely i’ll warm up to these picks in time, but right now seems pretty strange.

have you seen my baseball?

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 12:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

O-line

The way its going, there are going to be a LOT of qualtiy Guards and Centers available in the 6-7th rounds when we have more picks. Plus we have a ton of guys on the roster now that could still do something.

Herb Taylor could play Guard. McIntosh will probably go to RT. Niswanger could do center or Guard. Smith could do Center or Guard. Svitek may yet improve enough to play RT. Alibi could do Guard or RT.

So we may not be as bad off as we think we are on the O-line.

WR going to the Raiders

Interesting. Though as I said to Eccles, “I don’t know of anyone who can fathom the inner workings of Al Davis’ mind…best not to speculate too much.”

We were pretty pleased by the value we got at each pick on the Recap thread.

by DThomasReigns on Apr 27, 2008 12:15 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

+1.

Not as awesome as yesterday, but still really good value at positions we could use some help out.

Still a really solid day, I’d give Day 2 alone a B+ so far.

by rockchalk on Apr 27, 2008 12:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think we've had the best draft in recent memory thus far...

...but I agree that we have much work to do on the o-line. That said, I don’t think it’s a problem that can be wholly fixed by the draft. We have other positions that need help and such great opportunities falling into our lap at just the right moments that I’m not disappointed with the choices we’ve made so far, except taking YET ANOTHER TE. sigh

Post-draft trades and acquisitions can help build the o-line and fill some other holes, but this will be an ongoing process. Not rebuilding because we all know I HATE that excuse, but a process.

by gritsnyc on Apr 27, 2008 12:22 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i agree

this draft is awesome. i don’t hate or love the third round, but as long as they were following their board, then ok. i guess time will tell with cotam and morgan… charles seems like he has good value where we snagged him. i just really feel like there were more pressing needs that could have been addressed in the third round… a’la:

picking early doucet, anthony collins, and pehaps cottam in the third.

Hey guys!

Crazy, hectic morning weekend in Austin. Got an impromptu job prospect that may have me moving there in three weeks.

Many thanks to Chiefs n Chopper, who was able to get this thread started for me.

I’ve only gotten to glance at the picks today and they seem to be a little curious but pretty solid picks.

I’ll have a major write up later tonight.

This job had better not interfere with AP. Or we’ll hunt you down in Texas.

It looks like ...

we can still upgrade the OL in the fifth and sixth rounds, yet. There are still a handful of good OG and C prospects on the board. Some that have good talent, but maybe questionable character. I’ll take the character risk in the fifth and sixth rounds.

I don’t think we go Carl Nicks, even though we probably should, and instead go Owen Schmitt.

I would like it, but I would probably rather have Nicks or Scheunning.

Best kicker on the board is left footed

that was the same problem we had with medlock where we couldn’t let him compete with anyone because the holder would have to switch back and forth.

Wow, Derek Fine just got picked up by the Bills...

Did NOT see that coming. I figured that he had a chance to be taken in the 6th or 7th round, maybe, but instead the Bills take him in the 4th.

Wow.

Derek Fine...Greatest Receiver EVER At KU!!!

Just kidding :) He was a pretty decent tight end, though. Kind of surprises me that he went that high…he’s a bit slow for the NFL level I think and his hands aren’t spectacular (although he’s a decent receiver).

We needed another corner, but a guy from GVSU?

I’m full of trust right now, so I’ll trust the pick, but we do, at some point, have to address the offensive line beyond Branden Albert.

Seriously.

We have 4 picks left, two of them better be O-Linemen.

NFL.com

Indicates Carr is an athletic specimen, but has limited football skills. They say he is not physical, and his technique will get him beat by smaller, quicker WR. Don’t expect him to be a big contributor this year. The brain trust must believe the remaining OL options can be had in the 6th and 7th rounds.

by etp_stl on Apr 27, 2008 12:57 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 12:58 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The team has a lot of holes, so ...

I agree with you. It looks like it has definitely been a BPA second day. I prefer to build line out on both sides of the ball, so I would have expected to see a little more OL help before now. That said, quality interior OL can definitely be found in the 5th, 6th, and 7th rounds. I still am more or less ok with things, so far.

Not much scouting info on him, scary for a 5th.

We have kind of painted ourselves in a corner as far as the O Line now. We need 2 more OL and a FB. Unfortunately, we might use one of our 6ths on a kicker.

I'll Bet Ainge Ends Up NYJ Starting QB

Kellen Clemens sucks and Pennington is done…Ainge has been a little under the radar but I think he’ll end up being a good QB. Tennessee tinkered with their offense a lot, which hurt his development a bit, but he seems to have put it together by his senior year.

I'd rather have Woodson

than Ainge, personally.

He has the potential to be a star, and while he has an incredibly high bust potential, it is worth the chance in Round 6 IMO.

Although I would rather use at least 2 of the 4 picks on offensive linemen…

by rockchalk on Apr 27, 2008 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

WE GOT BARRY RICHARDSON!!!

Awesome, awesome, awesome news.

He has potential to be really god, and is pretty good value IIRC in the 6th round.

We waited a long time to readress the offensive line, but this is a good pick.

Agreed

Strong with long arms… the knock is his legs/footwork.

With some good coaching this guy will be a mauler.

Some said had he come out last year he would have been a 1st-2nd round guy. I guess a lot of tape caused them to back off of him. This guy could be a diamond in the rough.

Another plus

This guy graduated high school in 3 years, and got his degree at Clemson in just over 3 years. This means two things to me.

1. He’s smart and/or diligent… likely both. To me this means he will learn fast, and take well to coaching. This is a certain plus.

2. I don’t see his age listed, but he should be pretty young considering how fast he got through school. This gives us some time to work on his weak points, and still reap the rewards for a long time if he proves worthy.

The Career Notes on nfl.com are pretty interesting too.

Yea, Kevin Robinson looks like a kick returner...

Late in the 6th round, I’ll take a impact player in any way, shape or form. Robinson figures to be our kick returner, maybe punt returner, and probably can be a pretty decent 4th or 5th WR option as a burner who can get up field.

I would like some more OL help, but whatevs. We still have two picks, hopefully we spend at least one on the offensive line.

by rockchalk on Apr 27, 2008 2:51 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

He's not a burner.

he runs a 4.69 40 but he should be a decent return man and 4/5 WR.

What? The overview says: ”...there isn’t a more consistent big-play threat in the country than Robinson. “

Franklin and Charles were not returners

Neither of them returned kicks as far as I know in college. Herm had said they might try to get Charles to return kicks when they picked him, but now with Robinson, Id say thats out the window.

I think Charles is to be the Maurice Jones-Drew to LJs Fred Taylor in some 2 back sets for the Chiefs.

Chiefs are doing what they have to do

We have SO many holes in this team we are not going to fix it all in one year.

They are taking the best players available for this year hoping to get some playmakers and will do more hole filling next draft.

Its easier to fill in a pothole than the grand canyon.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 3:04 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

by Captain D on Apr 27, 2008 3:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

im not

suggesting that we would fix it completely in this draft. but if we get enough solid players, we could at least fill a few holes long-term.

by ArrowheadRed5658 on Apr 27, 2008 3:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

not buying

that argument. we passed on so many offensive lineman in this draft. the skill players that we took this year are going to lose a year of development because they won’t have the blockers to give them space. building a football team is like building a house, you have to set the foundation first. our foundation on offense, when we have been successful, has been a great offensive line. our house is going to collapse because the foundation is weak.

by ArrowheadRed5658 on Apr 27, 2008 3:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

exactly

We will have to see what they have, but as the adage goes “you build from the inside out.”

But we DO have offensive linemen already signed up

All the old trash we had has been gotten rid of. They have signed alot of guys this offseason for the Oline. Im not worried about it. They will probably get some undrafted guys as well.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 3:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

+1.

I would have liked to spend more picks on the O-Line, but all of the picks seem to have served a purpose.

Our O-Line will be better than last season, and the rest of our team should be better too (save the pass rush). We still figure to win only a handful of games though, and we can further address the whole O-Line nightmare next FA and next Draft.

by rockchalk on Apr 27, 2008 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

thats balogna.

we came into the draft knowing that O-line was our biggest need. instead of addressing it we took players that we don’t need right now. it was our most pressing need of all of our needs, and we didn’t address it.

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 3:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

How you figure?

We took Franklin at 4. And got a return specialist in Robinson in the 6th.

By my count, thats only 1 WR. Unless you count Robninson as one, but hes no more a WR than Eddie Drummond was.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

We dont need them IN YOUR OPINION

I would argue that we needed pretty much everyone we got.

The Carr pick is a little confusing, but other than that, I think we will use all the players there.

And look at the players who are still on the board. All the guys you are naming, Sullivan, Young, etc. Those guys may not even get drafted and can be signed as undrafted free agents. The NFL is LITERED with offensive lines that are made up of UDFAs. Look at Brian Waters.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

but we lost JA and havent really found anyone to replace him. I mean seriously! moving Boone to LE ?

by _chiefs_ on Apr 27, 2008 3:09 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

i disagree

with that. we got the best DL in the draft in my opinion in dorsey. now the push up on the DL will just come from a different place on the line. also, dorsey will be cheaper and is a better team player than JA ever was. im happy having turk mcbride and hali on the ends with dorsey and a gap filler in the middle.

Day 2

We won’t really know how this draft went for a few years but I will say that I would have rather they focused a little more on the OL today. Without a solid o-line we’re still not going to be able to run the ball and the young QB we’re trying to develop will be getting rocked and probably knocked out again. To me it makes more sense to try to get that in place first, then take some skill guys.

You can't triple stamp a double stamp

by Pauli on Apr 27, 2008 3:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I have really really liked our draft today...

I guess I am in the minority, but I have liked almost every pick. Cottam and Charles both have first round potential, and both could be absolute steals in the third round. Morgan, from what I have read, could have been a first rounder next year, so while he will be given a year as a reserve safety/nickle corner, he could be really good in another year or so.

Will Franklin is probably our #2 WR starting next year, a position of need we HAD to address in this draft.

Not in love with the Brandon Moore pick, but I trust that Herm knows what he is doing regarding CBs, so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I loved the Barry Richardson pick, he has the chance to be really, really good, even though that is a very small chance. He has potential, and that is about as much as you can hope for in Round 6.

I don’t mind using the 182nd overall pick on a return specialist who returned 9 for TD in his college career. That is serious production, hopefully he can reproduce it it the NFL with us.

Plus, we have two picks left.

So, while it would have been ice to spend more picks on offensive linemen, it wasn’t like we are a good O-Line away from a good team. We had holes all over the place, and we filled most of them, if not all, this side of the offensive line. And even then, it is completely unreasonable to expect us to devote the entire draft to just building an offensive line.

by rockchalk on Apr 27, 2008 3:14 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

benefit of the doubt

the o-line needs are so glaring the chiefs had to have been looking for it. if they weren’t sold on the guys I’m glad they looked to other areas because virtually every position needs help

by DThomasReigns on Apr 27, 2008 3:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

2nd Day Draft Blues

I’ll flat out say it…except for Jamaal Charles and Richardson I hate every pick that the Chiefs made on the second day. Cottam’s an injury-prone pass catching TE (so he doesn’t replace Dunn and may not be a good replacement for Tony G), Franklin is a WR who wouldn’t be as valuable to us one of the linemen taken immediately after we drafted him, Morgan looks like a lesser version of Bernard Pollard (so probably a backup/ST), Robinson sounds a lot like Samie Parker, and Carr is a small school DB who doesn’t have great physical tools (meaning he’s not a great sleeper).

The Chiefs did great on the first day, but after Charles I think they really blew it on the second. O-line was the catastrophe this year…so what was wrong with Anthony Collins? Did he kill a hooker that we don’t know about? Fricking Peterson and his weird little grudges about players.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

No Kidding

By the way, when I tried to figure out what USC players Peterson had ever brought in (and named Sammy Knight and Larry Parker) I forgot about Marcus Allen. So Peterson has acquired one USC player by trade, one by free agency, and one through the draft during his time in the job. So that’s all of three players taken from one of the most successful programs in the country in 19 years (fewer than the number taken from his mediocre alma mater).

Carl Peterson is such an ass.

HAHA

Ya I love Tony “Touchdown” Temple as well.

TT

wouldn’t sniff the field with the Chiefs though. Maybe he’ll get picked up by someone who could use him.

by Captain D on Apr 27, 2008 4:37 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fullback

that guy out of Arkansas. With all those compensatory picks someone will probably snag him. It would be nice to have a real one instead of trying to manufacture one.

by stram#1 on Apr 27, 2008 4:34 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

true that.

Should have snagged Schmitt.

I'd Rather Have Temple As A UDFA

I’m hoping that our last pick is a lineman. Radovich and Spanos are still on the board.

As for Peyton Hillis (FB from Arkansas), I don’t know if he’s going to end up a good NFL fullback. He’s got injury issues, he’s not that big (so he’s not prototypical) and he’s not that fast (so he’s not likely another Alstott). He definitely smells like a UDFA.

A guard would be a nice

But I would rather try to pick up a true OT . Weve got some guys who can play guard already.

by _chiefs_ on Apr 27, 2008 4:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah. enough with the gaurds. our 2nd first rounder might only be able to play gaurd in the NFL. That’s the main reason I wanted Albert to go to Chicago so we could get Williams… but we know how that turned out. Hope Albert transfers well.

I Think He Will

He’s got the physical ability to do so…if not we’ll just have an exceptional guard.

Don't Think There Are Any Left

And did you see that United Way ad with Brian Waters? He’s starting to look like a beach ball. He’s also in his 30s, he isn’t doing the offseason conditioning, and he hasn’t been a Pro Bowl caliber player for two years.

out of OSU could make a decent Right tackle also

by _chiefs_ on Apr 27, 2008 4:42 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Kirk Barton

Kirk Barton OT, but throw him at guard. Bigger and faster then Radovich

Kirk Barton = Height: 6-5 | Weight: 310 | 40-Time: 5.01

Drew Radovich = Height: 6-4 | Weight: 301 | 40-Time: 5.38

I've been reading about DE Brian Johnston

His profile and reports remind me a lot of Jared Allen.

Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t have the insane small school sack totals of Allen, but this is definitely a Jared Jr type pick.

anyone else find it funny

that we got the 32nd pick in the 7th round for a kicker who won the super bowl?

by IISaiNtII on Apr 27, 2008 4:48 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Barton Works For Me

Just as long as that pick is a lineman. If Peterson thinks that the collection of waiver scrubs and third-tier talent he’s acquired before this draft will cobble together a decent o-line in a year or two, he’s insane.

Tynes

was a fluke. He made one out of three kicks in that game at crunch time. He was lucky that Favre is an idiot and thinks everybody is open.

by stram#1 on Apr 27, 2008 4:49 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

i don’t think it’s a fluke that two of our players went to start for the giants and they won the super bowl. it had everything to do with mitchell and tynes, and dammit i decree we need to have compensation!

I'm just saying

that if you give someone MULTIPLE opportunities they will eventually come through. He needs to start making that kick the FIRST time he gets the chance. When he was here he was starting to remind me of Lin Elliot. That jerk almost made me trash a perfectly good TV.

Geoff Schwartz

Geoff Schwartz would work for me as well…...

Not as fast so not sure about guard spot

about what someone said earlier about just have Brad Cottam play Tackle.. I mean throw a few more pounds on teh guy and he might be ok hehe

Brad Cottam = Height: 6-8 | Weight: 270 | 40-Time: 4.63

he needs at least 30 more pounds hehe

by stram#1 on Apr 27, 2008 5:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

so ya we done

What grade would you give the Chiefs today? I say C- for today and a B overall draft

by Boxol on Apr 27, 2008 5:25 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Great first day

second day would have been great too if they had spent one of those 3rd round picks on a lineman. Other than that (and the last pick) I’m ok with it. Can’t fill all of the holes in a weekend but they’re off to a decent start. If they sign the right UFAs it will be a lot better.

by stram#1 on Apr 27, 2008 5:27 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I Go Out To Buy Stuff To Mow My Lawn

And the Chiefs pick up a blocking tight end who’s got no speed. If we’re desperate at that position, why can’t we make Damion McIntosh our blocking tight end with no speed? He’s not doing much of anything at tackle.

I give the Chiefs a B- for the draft and a D+ for drafting on day 2. It would be a straight F for the second day, but Jamaal Charles was a steal I think and Richardson and
Johnston might turn into something. All of our other picks were horrible. I cannot believe that with offensive line being our critical need in a draft full of linemen, Peterson didn’t grab a second lineman until the 6th round. About half the guys we passed up could have started immediately. What an ass.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

by UCrawford on Apr 27, 2008 5:32 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Thats a ridiculous comment

Whitlock has never been right about anything having to do with football.

There are tons of undrafted offensive linemen that we can get as free agents.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 27, 2008 5:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry

But I tend to agree with him about most things relating to the Chiefs. He’s not particularly tactful about his arguments and occasionally he’ll make really stupid comments, but he’s usually right about King Carl.

“There are tons of undrafted offensive linemen that we can get as free agents.”

Given a choice between competing with other teams for undrafted free agent linemen and having the draft rights to those linemen so we don’t have to compete for them, I choose drafting a lineman instead of wasting a pick on a scrub who’s neither a prospect nor a need.

You see guys that could have helped

on the line get gobbled up in the comp picks while the Chiefs spend a pick on a TE that will never make the squad

What Can You Say

Carl Peterson is a cheap, out-of-touch old man and he drafts like a cheap out-of-touch old man.

And yes, I am saying that I think Carl Peterson was entirely in control of this draft, despite what the speculation is about his “tenuous” position. So I blame him for it.

How long do you think it will take to get the top picks signed?

I mean for all teams. They usually wait until the top guy is signed so they can get as close to his money as possible. Hopefully it goes fast but with Carl anything is possible for the Chiefs.

brad cottom

I am a huge tennessee fan, having lived there for seven years, so I have watched him quite a bit. I actually think that he will translate well to the NFL. I actually like that pick more than the Charles pick, alot more. Charles is stuck behind LJ, and I thought Kolby Smith did an adequate job at RB last year. So now we have 3 good RB? Instead of Charles I would have liked to see an O-lineman. Really, in the 3rd round, I liked the Cottom pick, Jamaal Charles, IMO, should have been a lineman pick, and Franklin should have been Doucet. After that, besides Richardson, the draft was a bust.
