Flowers is huge against the run. He's a safety in a corner's body.

so....
then whose our corner if Flowers is a safety
by Joel Thorman on Apr 26, 2008 7:01 PM CDT up reply actions
He's not. He is a true corner.
I meant he comes up in the box like a safety.

Flowers should be a great Cover 2 CB
Only guy ahead of him on my CB list was Talib, who Tampa Bay (another Cover 2 team) took ahead of us.
Told him the same thing
He said “that’s how they do it in texas”???

High value with each pick!
Great day one draft! Flowers can hit. All three are football players. Like the Albert pick and am confident he can do OT. Named items with “Brandon” on them will fly off the KC shelves, eh?
Like Albert
And that we had the guts to trade UP for him

Not for me
At least right now. The site froze up for me when we had 400+ comments but this post, so far, should be good.

3 starters, 2 to go???
If we “only” want five starters from the draft, we just need 2 from day 2, right? =) The first three are locks.
Was just thinking the same thing
3 picks, 3 starters. I think we’ll get another CB in the 3rd round, hopefully Chevis Jackson.
This is WAY off topic
but I live in Minnesota. People up here are just going stupid over Jared Allen. If he takes a dump its the first story on the news. I want to tear my eyes out. Just venting….now back to talking about the great draft the Chiefs have had so far.
Definitely three starters drafted so far. Albert at LT, McIntosh back at guard with Waters and now they can start drafting a RT and the line is good as far as starters are concerned. Day two is gonna be awesome.
We may need to trade up into the 2nd round to grab Collins at RT,
but I am all for it.
by DThomasReigns on Apr 26, 2008 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions
I wouldn't
We could have Albert-Waters-Smith-Niswanger-McIntosh.
Or we could still get a Center or Guard later on. I wouldn’t trade up for another Tackle at this point.
Boo!
I don’t think Niswanger is starter material, and I’m not a big fan of McIntosh at a tackle position. Move McIntosh to RG and draft a RT is what I would do.
Not a big fan of Wade Smith starting at center either, I would draft a center late in the draft to study under him for awhile, then take over the job sometime next season…
Not 1st preference but
Im just saying if there are superior players at other positions, I don’t think its wise to trade up for another Tackle. We can still find a good Center or Guard in the late 3rd or 4th round if we wanted and McIntosh would be fine at RT.
Good point.
I don’t think we should be dead-set on trading up just for a RT, and should instead focus on overall value.
DJ,
I am sorry, but who is Smith on the O Line?

Awesome, awesome, awesome pick with Flowers...
Sorry, I had to leave, but I just came back to the news that we had taken Flowers. I am pretty frickin’ excited.
All three, as you guys said, are locks to start already, and I bet we pick another one up a little later on this round.
I’m telling you, its’ going to happen, we are trading back into the second. Probably for someone like Anthony Collins at RT, that would be sick.
Wow...
After zero WR’s being taken in the first round, all of a sudden they are all flying off the board. I would have been game for trading back into the second to take one of them, I am a big fan of Limas Sweed, but as long as we trade back in some how, I will be happy.
Hell, who am I kidding, I am estatic already…
The real fun thing to watch for...
Will be if no one takes Brohm tonight, who wants him the most to trade up to the top of the 3rd round to snap him up.
Probably, he will be taken sometime in the second round, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes unpicked and Miami, owner of the top 3rd round pick, fields a bunch of offers for the pick.
Collins should last until the 3rd round
We should get a shot at the top of the 3rd
by Joel Thorman on Apr 26, 2008 7:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Remember, we lost pick #66 to the Lions...
to move up to snag Albert. So now, our first 3 is at 73 (then we have 76 and 82)...
What is crazy about all this...
Is even though we have pulled off an awesome first day, picking up three awesome value picks at positions of need (YAY!), we still have 9 more selections.
9 MORE!
That is a lot, and three of them are in Round 3, which will have a bunch of talent available. This is a deep draft, and we should be able to get at least 2 starters out of our Round 3 picks.
So, while it probably won’t be as awesomely fun as today was, tomorrow should be fun as well…
Brohm gone.
Not a real big surprise…
Fins probably take Henne, either today or tomorrow morning with their first pick.
Why does the draft start so insanely early tomorrow?
Living out on the west coast, that means I will have to wake up at freakin’ 7 AM just to see the start of the Draft.
Craziness…
Hopefully Collins is still there at 73...
If so, that would be awesome.
I think that we take a wideout, someone, in the third round. After that, though, I really don’t have an idea…
I still advocate going BPA the rest of the way, because as the Chiefs fan on NFLN said:
“Hi, I’m a Chiefs fan and basically, we need EVERYTHING!”
wait...
I doubt Collins is rated much higher than guys that are still on the board, especially since we have so many needs. I like Collins but we need the picks IMO.

what a great day...
I cracked my beer at noon to celebrate the draft here on the west coast….then Dorsey falls to us…then we trade up for what I consider a small fee to get Albert, who can play guard or possibly tackle…we need both. We then get Flowers who is great for our Cover 2.
I think we have a lot to look forward to tomorrow….

For rills
I almost shat my pants I was so excited about today’s draft.
-Dorsey – What can you say? Awesome. Dorsey at the 3 gap, and Tank Tyler at the 1 gap inside, Tamba Hali at RE and Turk McBride at LE.
-Albert – I was happy to see Albert fall that far so we could snatch him up, that was good value.
-Flowers – Another great pick, and a seemingly perfect fit for our cover-2 system.
If day 2 continues in this vein, then we are establishing an amazing base for years to come. I’d like to see some more help on O-line and CB, and some WR help sooner than later.
by Ochophosphate on Apr 26, 2008 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions
+1 on the needs.
Those are our three most pressing needs right now; some more O-Line help, another corner and we need at least one more wide receiver, if not two.
we *should*
be able to address all of those in round three tomorrow. well, not two WR’s, but one anyway.
i think if we can get one WR, we should be alright there with bowe, darling, webb, and whomever they may take.
have you seen my baseball?
"years to come"
Welcome to the site, first of all, haven’t seen you around.
Next, Flowers is an excellent cover 2 CB. The only thing that bothers me is that there is no indication that Herm will be around long-term, which means see ya cover 2…

Thanks
I’ve been lazy in the past and settled for traditional outlets for my Chiefs fix (KC Star, chiefs.com, nfl.com). But with the draft frenzy, I went nuts and my lust for all things Chiefs led me here. There seems to be a solid community of informed, intelligent people here… what a relief!!
I hear ya on Herm. I may be in the minority here, but I like Herm. I like the way the team is moving, and this draft so far has put a spark of optimism that actually feels legit. But we know Carl will be gone in 2 years no matter what… so there’s no telling what a new GM will do.
by Ochophosphate on Apr 26, 2008 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions
+1.
Here is my thinking on Herm. I love his youth-first philosophy. Absolutely love it. I 100% agree with it.
I also love his preference of defensive players first, I think you need a great D to win a Super Bowl, which is what I want to do.
However, I am not a big fan of his in-game tactics, which are much-maligned, both here and everywhere else.
I am willing to take the good with the bad, but barring some incredible improvement next season, I wouldn’t be heart-broken to see him get the axe…
rockchalk
I hear ya on questioning Herm’s x’s and o’s but a lot of people threw that out about HCBS and we saw how that turned out.
i think you have to get to the playoffs to learn how to win there (Marty excluded). I question whether Herm can be the man to do it but I can’t think of many out there that would be available I choose instead…..that said, I’m rollin with Herm and his draft choices and hope lightning can strike twice for me within the next 5 years and the Chiefs can get a Superbowl like the Hawks got there championship.
I was not making this a college allegiance post for everyone else, just making a correlation between myself and another jayhawk fan…..today is for the Chiefs.

Good point...
I’m certainly willing to give him another couple of years or so to work it out, I’m just not wildly optimistic about it.
That about nails it:
I’m on-board with your evaluation of Herm. Love the scouting/talent evaluation side, youth first, D first… not a big fan of the in-game tactics. He’s certainly not the greatest football mind when it comes to that. But maybe it will improve. It certainly can’t get much worse.

I like the way Albert thinks
This was a question to Brendan Albert. You can find the interview at KCCHIEFS.com
Q: Can you talk about your relationship with Kansas State head coach and former Virginia Assistant Coach Ron Prince?
ALBERT: "Coach Prince helped mold me into the player I am today. He helped put that mentality of being a killer [in me] and when I pull to crush people and be a technician. And Coach Groh used to go over that after, but Coach Prince helped that mold and he laid the ground work with me. I remember when he left [Virginia] he said, ‘You’re going to be an NFL player, son.’ He always believed in me even though he was hard on me. I always respected him as a coach."
Carl Peterson is such a bitch
PETERSON: "I’d like to preface this with Bill and his staff and Herm and his staff and what a great job they did to identify these guys. These are people that we certainly hoped we would get to, but I’m not going to build them up too much because I have to get them signed."
I know this was said tounge in cheek, but given his reputation, you would think he could resist making comments like that.
you're 100% correct...
I saw that as well. I also heard Herm talking about the guard/tackle they drafted and how they won’t commit to him playing there….I understand it but at the same time I see this as message from Carl that says we’re not going to pay you tackle money, you’ll get guard money.
I hope Clark Hunt says to Carl….”look, we got out of paying the money to Allen so let’s make sure we get these guys in camp on time…..”
If we don’t get them there on time we’re just killing ourself. What’s wrong with getting guys in camp first. If you’re in business and you have a new product, you don’t wait for your competitors to bring their to market first to set the price…...

I don't mind a little bit of posturing here or there...
As long as they show up to camp on time.
But seriously, if either of them hold out, I will be incredibly pissed…
What about our need at Defensive End?
Why is it that no one mentions our need at DE? The consensus here seems to be that Turk will simply step into Jared’s shoes? Am I missing something? A few days ago, all of the talk was Gholston or Long to replace JA, and now nothing… What gives?
We have alot of needs everywhere
Losing Jared at DE just made one more but its not necessarily more important than any of the others.
I suspsect the Chiefs will get a DE somewhere along the line to go into the rotation, but it will probably continue to be a need until next draft. shrug Rebuilding takes more than one year.
+1.
Even with 12 picks, we can’t possibly be expected to fill all of our needs in one draft. Seriously.
Next year, hopefully we improve, but we should still be picking somewhere in the Top 10. That gives us some picks where we can take another premiere player early, and plenty of other options in the later rounds to fill some more needs.
I am more than fine with letting Turk see if he can stick at DE. That would give us an awfully exciting, awfully young D-Line that would be really nice to build the rest of the D off of, if everyone works out (Tamba, Turk, Tank, Dorsey).
Amen
Hali, Tyler, Dorsey, McBride is my speculation as well.
Turk McBride was a little small for an every down DT anyway – 6’2” 278. But that size is almost perfect for a run stuffing LE. We could always snag another DE later today in the mid/later rounds, but it might be a developmental player, not a day 1 starter.
Then slide Hali over to Jared’s old spot at RE and cut him loose… let that motor run all day. A middle rotation of Tyler, Dorsey, Boone and whoever should be pretty solid.
I guess Boone could play DE as mentioned below… probably put him in there to stuff the run in some situations. But I don’t think he’s an every down solution at DE.
I hate to say it… but Jimmy Wilkerson would have been a good fit in this rotation. He could slide outside or in depending on what we needed at the time.
by Ochophosphate on Apr 27, 2008 7:02 AM CDT up reply actions
Boone at DE?
I just read through Warpaint Illustrated, and there is speculation that were the season to start tomorrow, Boone and Hali would be our starting DE’s, with Dorsey and Tyler in the middle. Turk, I suppose, rotating in. This does sound pretty sick… I’m pumped!
I saw that too
I thought that was really strange.
Even if hes a tweener, you would think Turk would be a much better option at DE than Boone.
Maybe they just want Turk to have to earn the spot rather than just handing it over to him. Or maybe they only intend Turk to backup Dorsey as the 3 technique pass rusher. Kind of confused here.
Even if he was not a speed rusher off the left side, he would be a solid run blocker and I would think be faster than Boone.
Guess we’ll have to see how it shakes out in preseason.
I just read Whitlock
Might there be truth behind his comment that within the organization, Turk is considered a “bust?”
That is the last article from Whitlock I will ever read
He is not a supporter of the Chiefs, just a hater, Done.
I was wondering the same thing....
With the new start time (the only negative in the changes, IMO. 7 AM is WAAAY too early on the west coast) I had to actually set an alarm to wake up in time. Crazy stuff.

and lied about smoking pot.
He has a bunch of potential, which is why I wanted him in 5 or 6, but the 3rd is too early IMO, with all of his problems.
Granted
He did improve his 40 a bit at his pro day… but not that much.
It’s not just that he lied, but that he lied to the faces of coaches/gm’s etc. Then his apology was a letter that he circulated to the clubs.
He has upside… but I guess he shot himself in the foot for the most part. Talk about costing yourself millions.

hester to the chargers in the early part of round 3? i mean he’s the best FB available, but still…early? could be scary blocking for LT.
Wow, the Chargers just traded up for Hester...
They must be looking for LT’s lead-blocker…
Sucks that Chevis Jackson was taken, though, he looks like he would fit in perfect with any Tampa 2.
Might be a blessing
How many LSU players do we need on the Chiefs? Ii still want Doucet in the 3rd. That would make 3- D-Bowe, Dorsey, Doucet.

Thats what I was about to say
change of pace from LJ and Smith
Wow...
Did not see that coming, although Jamaal Charles seems to be good value right now…
I still want Collins at 76, then Doucet at 82. If we still get those two, that would be incredibly awesome.
A good combo with LJ, but what do we do about Kolby Smith now?
we probably were going to take a tackle
but expected charles to be gone. he was probably up there pretty high on our board, i would imagine
I'm not against the pick...
Just didn’t see it coming. When I think about it, I actually kinda liked it. He is the speed to LJ’s power, and looked awesome at times last year in college.
With us picking again at 76, we will probably take a tackle (hopefully Collins) then…
The thing I like about it
is they are going with the best available talent instead of for need. Thats the right move evne with all the holes on the team
OK, good...
Assuming that Herm and Kuharich wanted AC all along, they did the right thing.
Take the awesome value in Charles, then still get an OT.
It would be even better if we could get Early Doucet at 82..

Yuck.
With the awesome start, I’m willing to allow some benefit of the doubt, but Cottam? Seriously?
Herm needs his blocking TE, I guess, and some guy who is 6’7” fills that need I guess.
Again, it was pretty out of the blue, but it doesn’t totally piss me off I guess…
Still would have MUCH rather had Collins…
I know I'm becoming a broken record...
But I still want an OT at 82.
Preferably Collins, if he is still there…
i agree, of course
there are some good tackles still on the board right now, and we need one
by The DBowe Show on Apr 27, 2008 9:49 AM CDT up reply actions
What is the
Story on Cottam is he injury prone?
Yea, I guess so.
He is also a freakin’ giant, 6’7”+, and is supposed to be an excellent blocking TE.
So, I guess he is our replacement for Jason Dunn, something that we really did miss last year.
It would kind of be stupid if we didn’t fix our O-Line as well, but if we do go O-Line here the Cottam pick makes a lot more sense.
There goes Doucet, not too big of a deal, I suppose.
Great writeup on Cottam on Rocky Top Talk
Joel, who runs the UT SBNation Blog, addresses Cottam’s history here.
The short story: injuries prevented his from really showing off his talents while at UT. They may be a concern, but if he stays healthy you picked up a real monster. Huge, fast, disciplined, and great hands.

Kids got cartoons on
are we on the clock yet?
Obviously, Herm and Kuharich don't think the O-Line is a pressing concern...
A safety?
I guess I have to trust them, although these three picks in the third round are kind of freaking me out…
Last year we rotated 3 safeties a bunch...
With Wesley seeing a lot of action. I’m assuming that Morgan enters into that rotation, and sees significant PT next year.
Maybe not a starter, just like Cottam and Charles, but should be a significant contributor.
yes
im pretty glad we’re beefing up our secondary, that was also a huge problem for us last year
by The DBowe Show on Apr 27, 2008 9:59 AM CDT up reply actions
Does this say anything about Pollard or Page?
Or are we just getting our third safety, because Herm does rotate the safeties a bunch. Greg Wesley saw plenty of action last year, I’m assuming Morgan is replacing him.
We still have six picks, and according to Herm we could use 2 more starters. As long as we pick at least one WR and at least one OT, I will be happy.
My guess would be Pollard
Page has made some key plays for us.

Going back and thinking about these picks...
I am fans of all of them.
Cottam has decent enough hands, better than Jason Dunn, and looks like he is going to be an awesome blocker.
Charles is a perfect compliment to the grind-it-out Larry Johnson, and was incredible value in Round 3.
Morgan kind of slid under the radar around here, never heard of him before actually, but I love addressing our secondary. I like rotating safeties, and with Greg Wesley likely on the way out, I guess we needed another safety.
Both Cottam and Charles, in better circumstances, could have been first round picks. Especially Cottam. That makes me feel better…
also
everything i’m reading about our new safety says he shouldve been a day one pick
by The DBowe Show on Apr 27, 2008 10:05 AM CDT up reply actions
Nice.
Not only are we addressing at least semi-needs, we appear to be getting awesome value with all of our picks. In fact, we have.
With our six picks, all six of them have been good value. That is awesome, awesome stuff…
Also while they may not be starters
I am pretty sure all three picks today will get a lot of playing time every Sunday. Now if we pick up a couple of linemen and a receiver with the next couple of picks it would be a almost perfect draft.
19 picks to go before we go again...
And it is way too early to speculate, but Collins and Nicks are both out there. If we could still get one of those guys in Round 4, I might lose it (again).
I like that
then they have to take a WR in the 6th.
Sure. Why not...
We also need a WR (Mario Manningham in the 6th, anyone?) and another corner would be nice, although not as important with taking a safety.
Would Schmidt
have been a better pick than Charles?
at the time
charles was definitely the best value pick. amazing value
by The DBowe Show on Apr 27, 2008 10:18 AM CDT up reply actions
to early for Schmidt
he is a pure blocker. Hester is listed as a full back but he is more of a all around back.
so far today
it seems like we’re drafting the best player on the board at each pick, since we pretty much have needs all over the place.

Not a fan of Herm
I will say day one was a home run.
Casserly just said
Albert may start at RT or RG and then move to LT. I would think he will start LT instead of moving everywhere. What do you all think?
I hope he moves to LT.
McIntosh is NOT a NFL LT, he is good enough to play either RG or RT though. Depending on who else we draft, whether it be a guard or a tackle, McIntosh moves to the right side and Albert slides in at LT, IMO.
I haven’t heard anything to confirm that, just that is what I am expecting to happen, and what should happen.
10 picks left to go before we pick again...
Could we still, somehow, snag Collins?
I don’t want to jinx it, but seriously. If we are able to pull that off, Herm and Kuharich are geniuses for waiting that long…
NFL Network just
reinforced that the Chiefs are absolutely killing it so far. High high praise for ALL of our 3rd round picks. I kept hearing the words “Tremendous Value” and “Sticking to our Board.” It sounds like the Chiefs are executing their pre-draft plan perfectly.
There goes Kevin O'Connell and Mario Manningham...
I wanted Manningham in Round 5 or 6, he would have been absolutely tremendous value at that point. I’m over it already, though.
Here is how I want our last 6 picks to work out...
4) Anthony Collins OT
5) Owen Schmidt FB
6a) Will Franklin WR/Lavelle Hawkins WR
6b) Scheuning G
7a) Josh Johnson QB
7b) Whoever
That is pretty wildly optimistic, but hey, I’m just dreaming right now. That is absolute best case scenario, IMO.
im nervous
scouts inc now has collins as the best available remaining player

I'v been watching that list
and teams have not been using it at all. King was on there since the start of the day and he just got picked.
Only 3 picks till we go again...
Could we, somehow someway, still end up with Anthony Collins, assuming that we are interested in him?
Looks like AC should have come back to school to improve, he could have been a first rounder next year and (selfishly) we could really use him in 08 at LT.
Oh no...
I remember something about the Packers loving Anthony Collins.
Looks like he is going to be gone…
as long as the boys dont take him
he’s there if we want him. which we dont know if we do, but i think itd be a pretty good value pick, to continue todays trend
by The DBowe Show on Apr 27, 2008 11:01 AM CDT up reply actions
OK, Collins is there for the taking...
I’m assuming that Herm and Kuharich aren’t all that high on him, but even then he would be absolutely stellar value right now in round 4 at a position of need.
If we do take him, they played it perfectly. We got three contributors in round 3, and we still got the guy almost everyone here at AP wanted as early as 73…
No Collins, but a local product in Will Franklin...
I don’t understand why everyone is shying away from Collins, he obviously should have come back but still, you figured he would be gone by the 4th round.
Anyways, moving on to Franklin. I’m glad we took a WR, we definitely needed at least one in this draft, if not two.
Is Franklin more of a speed guy?
Franklin
Franklin has excellent speed… he was the 2nd fastest WR at the combine I believe. But what I’ve also heard about him is that he is one of the best blocking WR’s out there in this class. Franklin mentioned that even though his production dipped his senior year, he was able to become a more complete WR… how to play away from the ball… how to read coverages better… how to block the run better.
I’m stoked we got him, I think he has a very good upside. The fact that he ran a 4.37 40 doesn’t hurt.
by Ochophosphate on Apr 27, 2008 11:20 AM CDT up reply actions
One more thing
He’s 6’1” and 217 lbs and STILL ran a 4.3 40. That’s fast for a guy that size.
by Ochophosphate on Apr 27, 2008 11:24 AM CDT up reply actions
Awesome news.
I was really hoping we took a speed guy to match up with Bowe. Bowe has pretty good speed, but is more of a possession-type receiver, and hopefully Franklin will be able to stretch the defenses.
I have just started reading some stuff on him, and supposedly he was ‘supposed’ to be a 3rd rounder. So, again, really good value at a position we need help in.
Herm loves blocking WRs as well, DBowe for example, and that probably is a big reason why we took him.
Our running game figures to be MUCH better next season, with two really good blocking WRs on the outside and Cottam as the blocking TE. Our offensive line will still need some improvement, but we are doing pretty good so far with these picks.
I'm a big fan, too.
He definitely got overlooked with Maclin, Rucker, and Coffman. You are absolutely right about his blocking and speed. He will definitely be an upgrade over Parker, and he is probably going to be better than Kennison.
it definitely appears
as if a possible starting tackle is no longer one of our most pressing concerns. thats ok i guess. it irks me though, we couldve gotten franklin in the 5th round probably if we wanted him so bad. collins was projected as a late 2nd to early 3rd, in which case he wouldve been a steal at this point.

We are obviously comfortable
with McIntosh at RT, a later-drafted player/Niswanger at RG and Albert at LT and Waters at LG.
I am not comfortable with that line at all, but it isn’t like we have been wasting picks either. All of the picks have been solid, good value, stick-to-our-board picks, so I can’t complain. Maybe we can still pick up a guard-type prospect in the 5th round, but Franklin is the first player we have taken that wasn’t tremendous value. He was supposed to go around here, maybe even a little later.
Collins would have been better IMO, but I am perfectly happy with the Franklin pick. He is good.
I Wasn't Particularly Happy With Cottam Or Franklin
Nothing against Franklin, because I think he’s got a chance to do well, but I’d rather those picks for Cottam and Franklin went toward Zuttah and Collins (or one of the other o-linemen everyone else made a run on after we grabbed Franklin). We’ve added one offensive lineman in this draft and a bunch of scrubs in free agency…this draft isn’t addressing our primary concern. Cottam’s injury prone and Franklin’s a bit of a reach…if they were the players on the Chiefs’ board I’d say that the Chiefs’ board was screwed up for the later rounds.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.
Eh.
Cottam has a bunch of potential, and could be the blocking TE as well as combining with Michael Allan to be the future replacement with Tony Gonzalez. Not a great pick, but a wait-and-see one IMO.
As far as Franklin is concerned, I don’t think it was a reach. It wasn’t as much of a value as all of our other picks, but he was projected to go somewhere in the 4th, so it’s not too big of a deal. Plus, apparently he is a burner, but better than Samie Parker burner-style so that is a positive thing.
I’m not incredibly excited about these two picks, but I’m decently happy with them.
Agreed, and Cottam is better than you think
I live in Nashville so I get force fed more UT than I need/want. I have some friends that are freaks… I hit one up about Cottam, and this is what he had to say.
“Cottam is a good get as a 3 for KC. His first two years, he played under a coordinator that wouldn’t throw the TE the football. His last two, he fought injuries. But he’s a freak with regards to size and ability. He would’ve caught 40 balls last year if he hadn’t broken a bone in his wrist / hand in one of the last August scrimmages.”
He is apparently a pretty damn good blocker too.
I think Franklin will impress. He has good work ethic, and understands how to be a COMPLETE receiver. He will block, he will play every play, and when it’s his turn to shine he will turn it on. He has elite speed and excellent size. His hands are pretty damn good too. He played in an offense with no preference for receivers… he would have put up 1,000+ his Junior and Senior years if he played in a system that had 1, 2 primary targets.

The Whitlock article
He just had to crap on of the happiest days in recent Chiefs’ history. His act is going overboard (more than it already had).
and finally
collins off the board, to cincy

Wow.
I’m brand new on this blog, but I’m an huge Chiefs fan. I have been extremely critical of both Peterson’s player acquisitions and Edwards’ offensive schemes. That said, this draft is shaping up extremely well for a team that clearly has so many needs. The first day drafting was outstanding. It seems like the Chiefs probably got arguably the two elite prospects for the offensive and defensive lines. Flowers seems to be a very good pick in the second round, and I love the characterization that he is a big time tackler.
The third round seemed to be all about sticking to the board. The team clearly needed some help at backup RB, and Charles seems to be a good compliment to LJ. I think the TE is the biggest bust potential, so far. If his injury problems continue into his pro career, then we basically just gave away a pick. It also doesn’t seem like he is much of a blocker, so I guess he is a Gonzalez replacement down the road.
It still seems like they could use an upgrade on the OL in addition to Albert, but I really like the Franklin pick. I think this guy is really under-appreciated, and we have been dying for WR help for years. Bowe is a great possession guy, but I think Franklin will spread the field out. At least he can catch, unlike Parker.
Do you guys think that maybe Carl Nicks will be a good RT, or do you see maybe going for a G/C?
I like Nicks at RT.
And he should probably be there in Round 5.
I wouldn’t be opposed to taking Nicks in Round 5…
There are still some good players to grab, but we may have to trade up
OC Steve Justice
OT Carl Nicks
FB Owen Schmitt
CB Jack Ikegwuonu -To hard not to take a flyer on him
I was just about to do something like this...
I would love all of those guys.
Justice to a lesser extent, but Nicks Schmitt and Ikegwuonu (especially Ike) would all make me very happy. We’ve got about 20 picks till we are on the clock again…
What about ...
OG Roy Schuening. He looks like he is fairly well thought of, as he was projected to possibly go as high as the third round?
I can't say anything bad about him, but I honestly don't know a lot about him.

I'm no college draftnik, so ...
I’m just going off of what I read. Apparently, he played both OG and RT in college. They predict he doesn’t have the athleticism to be a starting RT in the pros, but that he could probably fill in. They say he is a very good run blocker, and his pass blocking skills are about average (not really exciting).
Owen Schmitt
He’s psychotic… exactly what you want in a FB. I seriously think he wants to kill people when he’s blocking them. He would be a great add, but I don’t know if we’ll go there.
Sorry, this was supposed to be a reply to the above post.

Herm's not really an FB guy, is he?
I get the impression that Herm isn’t one to use an FB all that much. I think that is a mistake for a running team, as I think we have really missed Richardson. I hope I’m wrong, and they draft this kind of a guy.
But Herm added 2 FA FBs this off-season, so he's definitely looking

Unfortunately, they are both converted FBs - ala Boomer Grigsby
BTW – Welcome to AP!

Yea, he would be a fan-favorite too just like Boomer...
He is basically Boomer Grigsby, only a lot more talented and actually a FB.
And even more crazy.
I would be happy with him, Nicks or Ikegwuonu at 140.
Or, what about Andre Woodson, either at 140 or 170, as a developmental prospect in case BroCro doesn’t work out?
