Draft Day Live Blog

Prod_medium

Yes! Fantastic pick by the Chiefs' brass. Glenn Dorsey has routinely been called the best player in this draft and the Chiefs obviously could not pass on his talent. Even with Herm Edwards penchant for rounding up picks, Dorsey was simply too good to pass up.

Making this pick even more incredible, the Chiefs turned down a last minute offer from the Saints. The offer was this year's first round pick (#10) and next year's second round pick.

**UPDATE 12:05 PM CDT** PFT is reporting that ESPN said that the Raiders will select RB Darren McFadden with the #4 pick.

Well, here we are. The most important draft in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs.

I'll be updating this post with the picks. In the meantime, we have a plethora of fantastic FanPosts to keep you entertained. Check them out to the right side of the page. NFL.com's coverage is here.

So, dive right in and start commenting.

GO CHIEFS!!!

Whats the chance, since we heard all thr rumors this Spring about Al Davis

canning Lane Kiffen, that Kiffen screws Davis with the fist pick and selects a nobody? Woudn’t that be a hoot!

Remember Al uses a walker, he cant chase down the guy who takes the card up to Goodell.

Finally

After a hectic two days with Miss Arrowhead Pride’s family, I’m sitting down in front of the computer and finally feeling relaxed.

GOOOOOOOO CHIEFS!!!!

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 11:46 AM CDT   0 recs

Chiefs are on the clock

From PFT the Raiders will take McFadden.

Rams will take C Long
Falcons will take Matt Ryan
Raiders take McFadden

That means Dorsey for us !!!!!!!!!!!! Or this is all trade bait.

by DThomasReigns on Apr 26, 2008 11:50 AM CDT   0 recs

Nice

Glenn Dorsey? I’ll take it. He’s Kiper’s #1 rated player.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd rather have Ellis.

And if Dorsey is available, we should trade back with the Saints or someone who is in love with G. Dorsey, and then pick up an OT later on.

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Good point

Dorsey does provide a lot more trade leverage than Ellis.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Disagree

I love the idea of trading down and getting more picks, but if Dorsey is on the board at #5 the Chiefs need to take him.

Dorsey is the one transcendent talent in this draft, the one guy who will make other players around him better, and fills a slot that has been a consistent need for the Chiefs since the days of Dan Saleaumua. Dorsey will make Tank Tyler a better player, will free up our linebackers to make tackles, and will compensate for fact that we will be lacking at defensive end and cornerback.

Draft Dorsey if he is there. If Dorsey is gone, trade down and acquire more picks.

by BlameChannel53 on Apr 26, 2008 12:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's my vote

I’d love to have Dorsey.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

You know what, you may have just changed my mind...

I have thought since January that since we play mostly a Tampa 2 scheme, Sedrick Ellis would be the better fit for our D.

Plus, I figured Dorsey would, without a doubt, be gone by the time we picked.

But y’know, it would be pretty sweet if we got Dorsey, and while I’m still not going to go as far as dying to choose Dorsey over Ellis, I certainly won’t be upset if we choose Dorsey.

Honestly, I trust Herm and you guys, and since most of you guys (and Herm, from what I have read) like Dorsey better, I’ll defer.

Regarding Brandon Albert, though, I’m sticking my ground. ;)

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:31 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Bob Gretz

i still cant believe he was fired. he was actually accurate unlike whitlock.

by thechiefsarrow on Apr 26, 2008 12:11 PM CDT   0 recs

I know

I’m completely shocked.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:12 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

ESPN is reporting rumors

of the Rams selecting Chris Long.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:16 PM CDT   0 recs

ESPN projections

If it goes down this way….

Long
Long
Ryan
McFadden
......

Dorsey is there. So is Gholston. Those are two guys that several teams would be willing to give something up for.

by primetime 07 on Apr 26, 2008 12:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes.

Here is what I want to do if such a situation presents itself…

1) Trade Down to 9/10/something like that (both the Bungles and Aints love G. Dorsey and Ellis)
2) Dorsey
3) Ellis
4) Gholston

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:32 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

ESPN Draft projection

It’s in that PFT link too.

1. Jake Long
2. Chris Long
3. Matt Ryan
4. Darren McFadden

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:19 PM CDT   0 recs

Chiefs will rob other teams if they trade down from Dorsey

Its going to take one hell of a deal to get the Chiefs to trade down from Dorsey. Peterson is going to hold them up for all he can get out of them.

by ChiefDJ on Apr 26, 2008 12:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Shockey?

Do we field 2 studly tight ends? I say no, but it’s interesting. I’d pull the trigger on Dorsey after losing Allen

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Apr 26, 2008 12:20 PM CDT   0 recs

Not a chance on Shockey

He’s not a KC type of guy…kinda like LJ….

by primetime 07 on Apr 26, 2008 12:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No on Shockey

Not a Herm or Chiefs type of move.

You’re right though, that is interesting.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Call him a redneck

The guy’s name is Eli, I’m just sayin, Eli’s suzy-ness is unparalleled.

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Apr 26, 2008 12:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

His actual name is actually

‘Elisha’.

So, even worse than Eli, I guess.

Wikipedia it, it’s true…

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The media is getting played hard

This is the thickest BS being swallowed as truth I have seen in a long time. The draft may go down as is reported, but this smacks of trade posturing.

by DThomasReigns on Apr 26, 2008 12:21 PM CDT   0 recs

Agreed

PFT made a good point. If these reports are to be believed, then someone is leaking info from the war room. That would be tough to believe.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks

I always catch myself actually believing these reports.

I enjoy reading the rumors, but I’m in the I’ll believe it when I see it mode

by primetime 07 on Apr 26, 2008 12:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I buy all of that up to the Raiders

I concur, the Chris Long thing seems legit, and he does have Gattica’d DNA, but Atlanta, well I kinda trust the rumors, and Ryan would effectively negate the Vick scandal, but I never trust what Al Davis is doing.

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Apr 26, 2008 12:23 PM CDT   0 recs

So what happens if McFadden falls?

I mean sure Al Davis likes the flashy flashy but old coot is loco, so what do we do if we’ve got the RB in the draft in our lap with LJ in the wings?

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Apr 26, 2008 12:27 PM CDT   0 recs

Don't think we'll do it

But there are plenty of teams who would…

by primetime 07 on Apr 26, 2008 12:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

We entertain trade offers

If that’s even possible in the ten minute window.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:28 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I wouldn't mind taking him.

I am not going to lobby for it though. LJ only has about 3 years of peak production left in him, max. We could extend that and extend the life of McFadden. Both would have contracts to be happy with (for awhile). LJ, DMC, and Kolby would be a stout stable.

But I think it is the most unlikely scenario.

by DThomasReigns on Apr 26, 2008 12:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Here is a draft day question sorta

What of Charlie Casserly as Chiefs next GM? Been around the NFL quite awhile.

by Eric Allen on Apr 26, 2008 12:29 PM CDT   0 recs

I still like the idea of Marty replacing Carl

He is a players type of guy, knows the game inside and out. Great talent evaluator. Needs a job.

by Lanier63 on Apr 26, 2008 12:32 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah I like that idea also

Is that what Marty is holding out for?

by Eric Allen on Apr 26, 2008 12:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm up for Marty as GM...

As long as he doesn’t try and get back into coach as a dual Coach/GM.

That never, ever, ever works…

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That be OK, but the first time he screws up on a player

the angry roar of, “he’s the Real Deal!” will be deafening.

by DThomasReigns on Apr 26, 2008 12:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

not that it matters...

but casserly talks like he knows everything on NFL network. he also said he would never draft aquib talib.

by thechiefsarrow on Apr 26, 2008 12:33 PM CDT   0 recs

Is there any possibility in this day and time

we could end up with Dorsey and Albert?

by Lanier63 on Apr 26, 2008 12:34 PM CDT   0 recs

Sure.

We take Dorsey at #5 if he falls, then we trade up to something like #11 if Albert is still there from #17 and take him there.

I don’t want to do that at all, I like Chris Williams much much better, but it is possible…

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Rumors

are saying Chris Williams has a neck injury that wasn’t reported.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Is it serious?

I really like him, so hopefully that it isn’t serious, and he will slide to #17 and we can snap him up.

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Albert will probably be around at #17

The only other team I’ve heard him associated with is #23 to the Steelers. Who cares what McShay or Kiper say?

by primetime 07 on Apr 26, 2008 1:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's what ESPN had

They have us moving down to #10 (From Saints) and drafting Alberts, so i could see him being there at #17

Die-hard Rockies fan. On the bandwagon since 7/6/93. Not giving up my seat. EVER!

by rockiesfan4ever on Apr 26, 2008 1:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Chris any news on

Who we are looking at very closely?

by Eric Allen on Apr 26, 2008 12:43 PM CDT   0 recs

Watching ESPN and reading a bunch of stuff

No consensus anywhere on who we’ll pick or any new rumors beyond what we’ve reported here in the comments.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 12:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Man

I never realized what a thickneck “the Rog” was

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Apr 26, 2008 12:45 PM CDT   0 recs

I'm still not buying this whole releasing picks thing...

No way this is actually truth that is being revealed.

Sure, it might happen this way, but I wouldn’t be shocked if even a couple of teams stray from the supposed, released list.

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:48 PM CDT   0 recs

As far as TV coverage

which do you guys prefer…NFL Network or ESPN?

by Lanier63 on Apr 26, 2008 12:48 PM CDT   0 recs

NFL Network..

Although Mayock is really annoying, he isn’t as annoying as Kiper.

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 12:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Matt Ryan

Just popped off with at the end of the day, gee who has he been talking to.

by Eric Allen on Apr 26, 2008 12:51 PM CDT   0 recs

Thats ok

We still have Brodie and Damon we will be fine.

by Eric Allen on Apr 26, 2008 12:55 PM CDT   0 recs

That would be a dumb move...

Although I would like it, since we would then be absolutely guaranteed one of C. Long, Dorsey or Ellis.

Ryan was way too INT-prone in college, and except the injury history, isn’t all that different from our own Brodie Croyle.

Strong arm, makes a lot of mistakes and dumb throws, and not always the most accurate QB in the world.

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 1:03 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Can't see that Happening

Unless the Rams think that Chris Long will fall to #8.

Die-hard Rockies fan. On the bandwagon since 7/6/93. Not giving up my seat. EVER!

by rockiesfan4ever on Apr 26, 2008 1:04 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I am a little concerned about the Carl P article today on Warpaint

What if he trades down just for more picks with one of those studs still available?

by Lanier63 on Apr 26, 2008 1:05 PM CDT   0 recs

I think it's Herm draft

That’s what the papers and other sites have reported.

With that said, I’m nearing gambling status about the Chiefs trading down. It’s gonna happen.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 1:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Me too, Chris

Dorsey or Ryan will be there….several teams want each of those guys bad.

by primetime 07 on Apr 26, 2008 1:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

On that note

If we were willing to trade away our best defensive player for multiple draft picks, doesn’t it make sense that we would NOT draft a player who could yield multiple picks?

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 1:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If you haven't read the Parade's

latest FanPost, it’s worth it.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 1:06 PM CDT   0 recs

NFLN Rumor:

Saints are trying to trade up to #4 to nab Dorsey.

That would suck..

by rockchalk on Apr 26, 2008 1:06 PM CDT   0 recs

Maybe

It sounds like we’re pretty committed to trading down.

by Chris on Apr 26, 2008 1:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Steve Young is saying on ESPN

the only way Atlanta can turn the page from the Vick saga is to Draft Ryan.

by Lanier63 on Apr 26, 2008 1:10 PM CDT   0 recs
