Guess the Chiefs' Later Round Picks
Here is a no pressure pick 'em that's really easy. Let us know if you have any hunches, rational or not, on who the Chiefs are going to take on the second day.
Then, if you're right, come back and gloat.
One of my picks is Washburn CB Cary Williams. The Chiefs interviewed him once or twice and his name has come up in my research in connection with the Chiefs.
NFL Draft Scout has Williams ranked as the 31st best CB.

I bet you will be ecstatic if we take Richardson
You’ve been talking about him for a while.
Hopefully something works out for us…

I can't explain why I like him so much
I just have this feeling that Herm could get him to play up to his potential, which is huge…
how many college linemen who are 6’7” and 330 are “excellent pass blockers” ?

That takes some serious balls :)
I like the picks…with the Jones pick in round three, are you thinking we won’t take a DE on the first day? I could see us going Ellis/Dorsey, LT, RT for our first three picks – and thanks for including Richardson :)

I hope we don't take a DE on Day 1.
Let’s see what Tamba and Turk can do at the DE first, if Turk doesn’t Wurk then throw Jones in there. He is a beast at stopping the run, he just won’t get as many sacks. I want Dorsey/Ellis at 5 or trade back to 8-10 to pick up Albert, then Chris Williams at 17, and a CB(Cason, Flowers, Porter, Smith) or WR(Nelson, Doucet, Hardy, Caldwell) in round 2.

Basically my line of thinking...
Although I think Chris Long will be an awesome player, and I think we should take him at #5 if he is there.
Actually, I would rather have Long than Ellis, and both more than Dorsey, but as long as we don’t take Albert at #5 I am happy. I want no part of that guy before #17; I don’t want to spend a bunch of guaranteed money on a guard who just may move to tackle.
Not a good risk IMO…

I guess that’s why you are an NFL GM and they write on blogs, OH WAIT. Almost EVERY NFL team has him as the 2nd rated tackle in the draft, so they must know something. I hope we can move down to 8 and snatch him up!

Hey, just an opinion...
I would just rather not spend that high of a pick on a guy who hasn’t proven he can be a tackle.
And giving a guard that much guaranteed $$ isn’t a good idea, IMO.

Does anyone know
if there has ever been a history done on the number of players that are in the NFL by the College conference they played in? I am sure there is always one available on how many draft picks each conference has each year.
But what I would like to know is, by the conference they play, in is there any real data that has been compiled to show that say one conference or another has the most players represented in the NFL for the longest period of tenure?
I think that would be interesting to know for example, and only an example, that say the SEC has x number of players who seem to remain in the NFL for and average of 6 years. Or that this conference has produced the most starters in the NFL.
Anyone see where I am going with this? I think that might help with some evaluations of the players at some point. Instead of a coin toss to decide between two players, why not a statistic that is somewhat meaningful?
In other words I think I am getting to anxious for tomorrow!

The best I could find for you is a study done by USA today.
The link is http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2008-04-21-draft-database-cover_N.htm if that does not work go to digg.com sports page 2 about 10-12 topics down. Hope this satisfies you. It does have some surprising info in it.

Question for you all
How do you think the specific region of a team affects who they draft?
Since we are in BIG 12 country, are we more or less likely to draft those guys?
Would be an interesting research topic.

Txroyal will probably dig that up too!
However that is something to ponder. I know it has to be an advantage to watch the SEC closely for say Titans, Bucs and Dolphins people.

I think
it would only depend on the strength of that team’s scouting in the area…the Chiefs employ people all year to watch these guys as early as their freshman year…some scouts are better than others – for example, I think we have a really good scout responsible for Alabama, Georgia, and Florida (he was on one of those road to the draft thingies)

I doubt it helps in drafting
but it might help with non drafted free agents. They are probably more likely to sign with teams close to home b/c they know they are a long shot to make the team. Sorry digg couldn’t help me out with this one.

Speaking of which, USA Today
has a good article on Todd Mcshay of ESPN and how he wanted to be a NFL GM and wound up where he is now. He did have college experience as a second string quarterback. It also says Kiper, didn’t mention any ball playing experience, used to send NFL teams his projections as a teenager.

That's hilarious
we should send all our projections to the Chiefs’ Front Office :) Of course, sometimes we are a little optimistic.

Well at least Kiper has always known what he whats to do.
I may not always agree with his ideas he does seem to really love what he does. Its actually a good story to show what can happen if you set your mind to it. I got screwed and I’m getting flown out to Vegas tomorrow to have a meeting with all the Schlitterbahn people b/c it opens this weekend, in TX. Sucks that I miss the first day of the draft but hopefully it pays off.
