Goodbye Jake Long! NEXXXT!!!
Jake Long will be a PHISHY as of today.... the draft has begun!!!
The Miami Dolphins have reached a contract agreement with Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long and will select him with the No. 1 overall pick in Saturday's draft, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
The announcement will come at a 1:45 p.m. ET news conference.
NFL Draft Central

Despite speculation that Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells really had planned to select Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston or Virginia defensive end Chris Long, sources told ESPN's Michael Smith that since the Dolphins opened negotiations with Jake Long they were talking to him exclusively.
Long, a 6-foot-7, 313-pound senior who moved to left tackle in 2006 and started his final 26 games, was an All-America selection and Big Ten lineman of the year in each of his last two seasons.
Offensive line is considered the biggest need for the Dolphins, who went 1-15 last year.

Good for him
I wish Jake the best of luck, and I hope the “experts” are wrong, because if he can’t hang at left tackle, the Fins will have one VERY expensive run-blocker…

This is actually great news
By my count, Jake Long should be a Chief in 4-5 years, if he’s following the Damion McIntosh/Anthony Alabi path to success.

Not LOL
following Chris’ logic, by that time, Jake Long will be recovering from an injury and will have lost his starting job to someone else :)

So Much For "Subterfuge"
You don’t really need to screw with peoples’ heads all that much when you’ve got the number one overall pick.
Here’s hoping that Dorsey, Ellis or Chris Long fall to us.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

one of them will
Someone ahead of us will take either McFadden, or Ryan, or maybe even both. And if it’s not someone already in front of us, it will be someone who trades up to get one of those guys.

I see he signed for about $4 million less than Russell
Since everything pretty much goes downhill, I wonder if this will help the draft economics of first round picks for the teams? In other words, will the trickle down effect hold through pick number 5?

methinks
that russell got more money because he’s a QB and a potential face of the franchise. not saying that OT isn’t an important position, but it doesn’t command quite as much money. and i do mean “quite as much” as that is still an ass-load of money. im sure we’ll end up having to pay market price for a #5

The Al Davis Spike
It’ll trickle down until the Raiders overpay draft picks the way they overpay free agents. If it’s MCF, he may get a bigger contract that Jake. =]
