JA Update
All you homers out there better say thank you to king carl before you go to bed. I sure will.
Found this little tidbit of information while I study for sociology.
PFT: We received a text message and a phone call late Saturday/early Sunday from a league source who shared with us a curious development regarding the Minnesota Vikings' ongoing efforts to acquire Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen.
Per the source, the Vikings are "likely" to sign Allen to an offer sheet after next weekend's draft, if a "fair" trade can't be worked out before then.
The move meshes with the idea that came us to like an acorn to a blind squirrel on Saturday. With the Chiefs reportedly wanting a first-round pick and a second-round pick for Allen, why not simply nab Allen with a poison-pilled offer sheet and foist on the Chiefs the Vikings' first-round picks in 2009 and 2010?

This wouldn't benefit us this year by any means, but anytime you get two 1st round picks for 1 player, that is a major win for your franchise. The only player I wouldn't trade away for two 1st rounders is peyton manning, but even tom brady would be part of a deal that big. Anyways, this made my day and thought it might excite some people here.

Ben,
Also, it is not a good deal. We lose JA, and can only hope to get 1 good player in 2009 and 1 good player in 2010. And we have to pray they aren't busts.
The reasonable trade scenario is a 1 and 2 this year, 2nd best is a 1 this year and 1 next year, 3rd best is a 1 and 3 this year.
A 1 in 2009 and a 1 in 2010 is a big finger up Carl's ass and is not much of a deal for what we lose and the timeframe in which it is lost.

I would strongly disagree.
So, what do you say when the vikings tank this year and next year, much like the raiders tend to, and we are stuck with our own fingers up our ass because we were way to greedy and in a rush to get this "championship caliber team" of ours fighting fit. What do we have to lose by waiting? A possible championship run? What about the year after that? A nice little run at the division title, maybe. For all this chatter about rebuilding, it seems as though we don't understand what rebnuilding really is. Five first round draft picks in three years is insane. You must not have wrapped your head around it because it truly is amazing. Theoretically, we could have the best O-line in the league in about 5 years, a more than realistic time to rebuild a team. We could draft an O-lineman, a D-lineman, a linebacker, a reciever, and even draft me with our last pick and STILL we would be set.
Should the chiefs end up getting two first round picks form the vikings it will be one of the best days in chiefs history. Worse case scenario: We go 0-16 next year without that second rounder from minny or jared allen and then what happens? We have the first pick in the draft, not to mention another pick, potentially top 5. So lets say we still suck after those two picks. What happens next you ask? Well, we have another top 5 draft choice for the third year in a row, with the minny pick bringing up the rear. Lets just hope those minnesota in the superbowl predictions of ours keep on coming because it seems the more anyone says that about a team, the more likely the team is to tank the next season.
Yes, if you are in a rush to win, that extra second round pick sure will give us the boost needed to get to the super bowl. However, if you are prepared to sit back, watch our money grow a little bit, and accept those two first rounders from minnesota, odds are that in 5 years, we will be fans to one of (if not thee) best team in the nfl. Should our 5 draft choices preform as well as our previous 5 first rounders, we without a doubt will be one fo the best teams in the league. Does anybody have any objection to winning? If so then call up carl right now and tell him to grab the 2nd or 3rd round pick instead of the first and get ready to settle for mediocrity.
Sorry but I still can't believe that you would take a 2nd round pick over a 1st just because you don't like to wait. Anybody who thinks the chiefs will be competitive next year is trying to be the next analyst to nail the next prediction. Chances are the chiefs will not do anything special next year, but thats ok. Its especially ok if we have two first round draft choices not only in next years draft, but the year after as well. Ahh yes, the dream scenario...
Kudos to Carl for this move.

Maybe, maybe not
In my eyes, the Chiefs shouldn't change their draft plans at all for the exception that now if the BPA is a DE, they can take him whereas before they might not have to.
At this point, I would have no problem with giving Turk a shot at playing DE and see what he can do. Is a Tamba/Turk duo going to be as good as Tamba/Jared? Not even close. But if he can hold down the position long enough to find a speed rusher, maybe in next years draft, I see no problem.
The interesting thing is that Jared himself was a 4th round pick. If the Chiefs continue to do good scouting, maybe they can pick up another later round sleeper that will fill the position adequately.
One thing we CANNOT do though, is change our whole draft by trying to replace one man that we aren't likely to replace completely.

We really don't need to replace him.
Lets not forget, teams DO get by without jared allen on their team, right? We can handle not having JA next year, its not like we were going to win the super bowl with him, right? Like DJ said, maybe next year another mario williams/julius peppers type player makes their way to us. Maybe the best prospect to ever come out of college is in next years draft where we have the number 1 pick because we lost those extra 4 games without JA. Probably won’t happen, but you can’t say it isn’t possible. Like I said, 5 first rounders in three years is devastating for the other teams in the NFL.

Especially if all 5 of them
end up being, at the worst, Tamba Hali, and at the best, Dwayne Bowe.

no kidding.
Like mentioned before, if we were top have the same success we have had with our last picks, our team would be phenominal. If we did end up firing herm, we would get a top tier coach because of the talent on our roster already. I just don’t understand why no one is for this?

If we drafted that well
no way would we fire Herm…having that much success in the draft is the way to build a multiple Super Bowl dynasty.

Good call.
At the very least they would just demote him to personell, but I personally don’t see that happening. Either way, we win is what I am trying to say hah.
