Hall to the Raiders......
I think Hall is worth a 2nd round pick. If you look at our 2nd round picks we've made, I'd rather take my chances with a sure thing even with his baggage.
The Chiefs are purging people left and right and yet we're not bringing any quality back.
I would really like for the sports writers in KC to start to ask the tough questions and take the Chiefs leadership to task on a shrinking payroll and increased ticket prices.
Does anyone remember when the Hunt's said they were ponying up more money for the renovations? Amazingly enough, they failed to mention at the time they were jacking up the club level prices to offset it.
The reporters responsible for asking these questions are too concerned with getting their passes revoked from the press food table. Gretz, Rand, Whitlock, Flannagan (who just as well be Hearne Christopher these days) are no better than teenage girls at a Justin Timberlake concert.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

The bigger issue about the Hall trade I feel is
They will surely take a corner and OL/WR.
I didn't check the rotating draft order so this point may be moot.

Tampa 2 does not require an elite CB
CB is not as imporant a position in a Tampa 2 defense so why spend elite player money on one?
Name me a succesful team running the Tampa 2 that has an elite CB that they are paying out big dollars to.

Draft
Pay too much for a position that doesn't require it and you won't have enough for the ones that do.

i understand your point....
Our draft history isn't solid and I don't know how we can think that all of the sudden we'll be fine with all the young guys coming to the organization.
Tampa 2 this, tampa 2 that......we're also not willing to get in on any free agent linemen because they're too expensive, which by the way I thing Faine got overpaid, but the market is what it is....
Carl hasn't shown an ability to build from the ground up and I'm not sure why folks are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt now. Herm won with sub par talent in New York but that's not the excuse give him an empty gun in KC.
Law is gone and Surtain will be after next year....Hall is a proven cover guy that will be solid on the field for the next 4 or 5 years....off the field stuff concerns me without a doubt....that said, I would give up Hall for anything Peterson drafts in the 2nd.
We need playmakers period but I don't think we're willing to pay for them. Indy is small market but they've been able to pay and secure those that are important.......the Chiefs have not and are not doing this......
Again, I don't think the Chiefs should be out there throwing draft picks and money around but I do believe Hall is worthy of a 2nd round pick, especially considering who we've drafted previously.

The offseason isn't over
Except for that very small percentage, most free agents are pretty average players their team decided they'd have no trouble replacing with at least another average player. Look at all the guys the Chiefs let leave in free agency this year. You think it will be tough to replace a single one of those guys?
The offensive linemen in free agency this year are a prime example. There was only ONE above average lineman, Faneca, and he is 32 years old and nearing the end of his career and was demanding an enormous contract.
Every other free agent lineman is an average player that their team decided they could easily replace. Even with Faine, Center is not a position that demands a high amount of skill. Most Centers are drafted on the second day.
So while yes, we NEED linemen, there is no rush to go out and sign average guys for big bucks. We will get the best players available in the draft that fit our scheme, and whatever the draft doesn't cover, hey, its not going to be hard to find an average guy released from a team that upgraded to get us by for one more year until the next draft.
Its the same for all positions. There are usually one or two guys that are big name superstar players like Asante Samuel that are out there demanding a record salary. The rest are generally average players.
What makes them seem like superstars is that we have a need in that position. I mean, Bernard Barrian? Bryant Johnson? These are pretty good players, but will their production match the salary we are going to give them or can we find a guy in the draft that will do just as much, is younger and whose production to salary ratio is much better.
Rebuilding takes longer than a year, but I'm betting 2008 will look 10 times better than 2007 did if you just get rid of the below average players and put in average ones. We have playmakers on the team where we need them already. We just need the core of the team, the offensive and defensive lines, shored up and I think we'll see great improvment.

Barber
Look at the difference in salaries also:
In August of 2006, Barber signed a contract extension for 5 years, $24 million.
A year and a half later, Asante Samuel gets 6 years, $57 million.
This is a clear example of the difference in skill sets required for a Tampa 2 CB.
