Kansas City Chiefs Mock Draft Tracker - #6

I get more and more worked up the more I see Vernon Gholston's name in the top five. I don't have anything against him -- he's a great player. But his draft position is apparently rising because of...what exactly? Has he played in another college game besides the Senior Bowl? Nope. This is the BS that happens around draft time. Player's draft positions move around because, well, it's a flavor of the week deal. It's all hype. Watch what the player did in college and don't look too deep into the Combine/Senior Bowl stuff.

Track guys can run a sub 4.4 forty yard dash. Look at what a player did on the field.

Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St. -- His stock is rising fast. The Chiefs can use his speed off the corner.
The NFL House
Brodie Croyle struggled mightily this season, but that wasn't all his fault. His receivers couldn't get open, his team had trouble running the ball, and his O-Line couldn't block anyone. I have a feeling that the Chiefs won't give up on Croyle just yet, and a gifted LT like Ryan Clady might be the difference between 5-11 and 9-7.
Pro Draft Guide
Are the Chiefs taking a long look at offers to move down? Yes. Would [Jeff] Otah be a reach at this pick? Yes. Which OT is better-built to fit in the Chiefs blocking scheme, Ryan Clady or Otah? Otah by light years. Now, this may be a head scratcher to some but it may end up being a reality come April unless some franchise moves up to snag RB Darren McFadden or QB Matt Ryan, which is more than likely to happen. HC Herman Edwards loves bigger and stronger linemen, which Otah is. Otah is a raw athlete that still has some untapped potential inside of him. He is the poster child of what the Chiefs want at left tackle too.
Consensus Draft Services
It’s no secret that the Chiefs need a LT and would love for Jake Long to fall to them here. The problem is, the three teams directly ahead of them could all use Long. Last year at pick 5, the Cardinals took Levi Brown, when most thought he would be taken in the 10-15 range. Could we see a similar "reach" this year? Word out of Kansas City is that Herm Edwards likes Jeff Otah, but don’t be surprised to see them go after Ryan Clady. In an ideal situation, they would trade down, take Otah or Clady, and acquire more picks. If they stayed put and decided to wait until round 2 to address OT, a guy like Sedrick Ellis would be hard to pass up. Ellis was unquestionably the most dominant player at the senior bowl and stood out throughout his career at USC. A run stuffer who can also get after the passer from the inside, Ellis recorded 8.5 sacks as a senior for the Trojans.
NFL Mocks - Adam
The Chiefs have to hit a homerun with this pick. After watching the Super Bowl, the Chiefs’ brass realizes adding Ellis to Jared Allen and Tamba Hali will work wonders for its already impressive pass rush.
Junkyard Jake
Vernon Gholston, DE - Shows great pass rush potential and good run stopper. Under-sized, but has 4.6 speed and plays w/ intensity.
Pro Football Planet
The Chiefs need offensive line help bad. They are thrilled when the top Tackle falls right into their lap. Jake Long really performed well at the combine. 37 bench press reps, he moved well and solidified his spot as the top tackle and a top 5 pick in the upcoming draft.

yeah, 'cause Jared Allen and Tamba Hali are slow-asses...whatever.  Also, If I were Gholston, I'd tell my agent to sue anybody that compared me to 'roid freak ass-hat Merriman.

Means nothing
I know we all love these mock drafts, but these people doing them honestly don't have a clue what they are talking about...

For a DE
he is undersized, for a LB he's fairly big.

It's obvious...
if you watch the draft videos over a kcchiefs.com , chuck cook makes the comment that "everyone knows what we should draft" (I'm paraphrasing there a little) Offensive line is what they need to draft whether they do it at the 5th pick or manage to trade back...the first time the Chiefs run a card up to the podium, there will be an offensive lineman's name written on it.
