Dustin Colquitt Re-signs With the Chiefs
From WPI:
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but now that Colquitt has been re-signed there’s no chance he’ll hit the market as an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season. Thursday was the deadline for teams to sign restricted free agents to one-year tender offers.

My thoughts exactly!
How could the Chiefs not have wrapped up one of the most valuable players (and it pains me to write that about a punter) before FA?
Obviously, the same situation is occurring with Jared Allen, but Allen commands a huge deal. A punter does not.
Why must even the simplest of contract negotiations go down to the wire or blow up in our faces with Carl?
Down to the wire
I wouldn't look to far into this. He signed a 5-year deal, that's all that matters, right?
Happy he is here long term, but

I don't think he was an UFA this year
Even if he was a RFA this year we could put the highest tender on him.

Yeah
We had a whole season in front of us. It wasn't viewed to be a problem to get a deal done.

But why did we have to risk it?
He may be the best punter we have had in 20 years, and we drafted him, and we have plenty of room to offer him fair market value, and drafting your own and signing your own is the new blueprint.
Why did it come down to the last second, as usual?

It wasn't last minute
I'm just trying to dissuade criticizing the Chiefs front office for everything. Yes they make mistakes, but they also make good moves as well.
