Morning Update (Bad Apple Edition)

  • New Kansas City sports blog -- KC Sports Beat.

  • Arrowhead Addict is rolling along with their community mock draft. So far, so good. Make sure you keep an eye on that draft so you can get a good idea of what we'll be shooting for here. If you haven't picked a team yet for the AP mock draft, do it now! All are welcome.

  • Former Chief Neil Smith thinks steroids abusers "are the baddest apples because they (influence) the kids in the high schools."

  • Say goodbye to a couple of MNF's sideline reporters.

  • Thoughts on moving the Pro Bowl to the week before the Super Bowl? Nah...

  • That Adrian Peterson guy is pretty good. In other news, the NFC beat the AFC 42 to 30 in yesterday's Pro Bowl.

  • Still wondering what to call that Super Bowl catch.

  • Breathe Chiefs fans. The Giants have given us reason for hope.
Neil Smith...it's been a while since that name came up. In fact, the last time I remember Neil Smith's name being spoken was when he refused to sign the chest of this girl I knew. What a guy.

Enjoy the links!

Naming the catch...
... was done superbly over at Kissing Suzy Kolber!

After taking suggestions and building consensus they came up with a name which is virtually perfect- it captures the essence of the play, it is chock full of double entendre, and rolls off the tongue.

It is...

<drumroll please>

"The Giant Snatch"

Enjoy the week.

Off topic
but mikvogel isn't Clady a bit of a stretch for the Patriots?

I hated those sideline reports
they never had anything to do with what was going on at the time.  Unless Bonnie Bernstien did it nude, I really don't care.

Chris when does the draft start?
And where do I find the thread, I thought you were gonna make it a permenant thing on the right hand side.

All Day
not to take anything away from Peterson, because he is a stud (usually), but offensive numbers from the Pro Bowl have to be taken with a grain of salt.  The rule changes and officiating crew apparently being big fans of offense skew the game just a bit...a lot of running backs would do well when the defense has to play a 4-3, must have 1 linebacker up on the line (either over or under), can not run blitz, and can get held all day with no chance of offensive holding getting called (Peterson's sideline "TD" run had three blatant holds on it).  And that crap where CB's can only play up on the line within the 5 yard line is stupid...I could have caught the TO touchdown pass, Samuel had no chance.  The only way Owens doesn't score a TD on that play is if he tried to jump up and catch the ball between his legs.

I only watched the end
how did Jared Allen do?

by Tom Bahali on Feb 11, 2008 9:26 AM CST reply actions

Did not
look like the same Jared, could have been held alot. I looked at the game stats, and they only had him down for one tackle. I think he had a couple of assists and pressures that he did not get credit for. T-Rich looks like he still has it, Carl bring him back please!

Thye had Allen
playing left end a lot of the time, and you could tell he was not comfortable.  i saw a few plays when he was over at right end and he looked better, though he wasn't going all out like in a real game. On one play, the NFC tried to run a toss sweep left, except Allen stood up the LT that was trying to block him, then came off the block and tackled Adrian Peterson for no gain.  I didn't see them run left again, until Allen moved back over to the right - then Peterson ran left for a TD (assisted by three flagrant holds, so even if Allen were there, he would have been mauled)...but it was interesting to see them consistently running away from Allen's side, whichever that was.
