"I do think you'll find more teams who will have a harder time giving a guy that big payday when it comes time to re-sign," Waters said. "They're going to be wondering more about what that guy will do when he gets paid. Instead of the negotiations being about numbers or what he's meant to the team, it will be about whether he's a good investment."
ESPN - Plaxico Burress case might provide a glimpse into NFL's future
Call me crazy, but shouldn't the whole negotiation process center around whether the guy is a good investment for the team? It's not about what you have done for me, it's about what you can do for me.

Apparently
The Giants set up the contract taking into account Burress’ past behavior so if they get cut of him before next season they actually save about $4.4 million under the salary cap.
And that Chadiha article just illustrates to me what a moron Herm Edwards is…he’s using that idiotic old saw about how it all changed when the “money got bigger” and “players got more attention” like the NFL didn’t have plenty of thugs and morons who thought they were above the rules back before free agency (e.g. O.J. Simpson, Hollywood Henderson), or like there aren’t plenty of players in the NFL who bust their ass and earn the money they’ve been paid (Peyton Manning, Derrick Brooks, Jerry Rice, etc.).
The only teams who get burned by players with big contracts are the teams that give plenty of guaranteed money to players without leaving themselves an out if there’s a good chance the player won’t live up to that contract. And surprise, surprise, Herm Edwards’ team gets burned by players’ contracts because Carl Peterson hands out a lot of bad contracts that the Chiefs can’t get out of.
The Chiefs should win 5 to 6 games this year and no less than 4 for this season to be considered progress in any way. If he can't win at least 9 games next season, Herm's a joke.
