Robinson’s return was the longest punt return in 42 games for the Chiefs, dating back to Dante Hall’s 60-yard return for a TD against San Francisco in the third week of the 2006 season. Before this one, the longest punt return in the ‘08 season was just 16 yards, but B.J. Sams back in the third game of the year against Atlanta.

When you spend a draft pick specifically on a return specialist, he better produce.

Where are they now
Eddie Drummond
We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.

He’s a 6th rounder. By this organizations standards he’s outperforming himself..

Oh, I'm not saying he's not performing
I’m just saying when you draft a specialist like that, he should be in the top of the league.

Really?
Again, he was a 6th rounder. History shows in the draft 6th & 7th rounders often don’t make their teams roster cut. It’s the last rounds of the draft, boards are empty, and there’s a scarcity of talent. It’s really a flip of the coin. And you expect ours to be in the top of the league? Wow.

Yes
Yes, when you draft someone specifically as a return specialist then his production should be toward the top of the league. I’m not saying he’s not producing, I’m saying that’s what’s expected of him.

I see it differently
and rather than expecting such performances from him, I’m just happy he’s producing. I guess you were royaly dissapointed in Medlock then…

6th and 7th rounder
Is about right for a “specialist”. He can’t do anything but return kicks so he better be good at it regardless of where he was drafted. He was picked up to play a handful of times a game.

To put it in perspective
Dante Hall was drafted in Round 5
Eddie Drummond Jr. was undrafted
Devin Hester was drafted in ROUND 2!
If you spend a first day pick on a return specialist, yes, he’d better be at the top of the league. But considering Robinson’s injury, and the fact he came from a smaller school, I’m willing to give him until next year to really show us he wasn’t a wasted pick.
(Though Shuffle is right, just having your 6th round pick make the team is good)

To clarify
I wasn’t diminishing his results on the field. He’s done an adequate job so far. My point is that when you burn a pick on a specialist like that, they should develop into one of the better players at their specialty.

My whole position
is that in Round 6 you’re not burning picks, you’re just flipping coins. It’s unrealistic to have high expectations from anybody from these rounds – specialist or not. So in other words there’s no possible way Robinson could ever be a “bust” or a wasted pick. He is what he is, a late rounder who had skills for a job we had an opening for

Considering our draft history
I would argue Robinson’s performances have already proven he wasn’t a wasted pick. The very fact he’s makes contributions every Sunday puts him well above former 6th rounders we’ve selected.

I'm not saying he's a wasted pick.
I think he’s doing fine. My point is that when you draft a return specialist (as opposed to taking a WR, RB or DB and having him return kicks) is that he should be in the top part of the NFL statistically.
Robinson is just in his first year. We’re far from the “bust” label. I’m not putting that on him (nor do I think anyone else is).

I'm sorry for drawing this out
but all I’m saying is, when you draft ANYBODY in Round 6 you can’t have realistic expectations they’ll be atop the league in stats. To me Round 6 & Round 7 are few degree’s away from the waiver wire/free agents. They either work or they don’t, but none should come with expectations. Regardless of where they play
