Thigpen said the play was designed to go to tight end Tony Gonzalez, who had five catches for 73 yards.
"Tony was getting mauled and I just decided to take off," Thigpen said. "It was me one-on-one and I came up a yard short."

I'm fine with Thigpen trying to do what it takes
Watching the game I honestly thought it was a designed QB Draw because he took off so quick. That’s one thing about Thigpen thats really growing on me. He makes quick decisions. He drops back, pocket is collapsing fast and his target for the play is heavily covered and hasn’t finished his route. He knows its 4th down, sees a hole and in a split second decides to put the game on his own shoulders and go for it.
You frequently hear the other players refer to Thigpen as humble, which is an endearing quality. But he also has enough faith in himself that when a play needs to be made, he has no problem thinking he is the guy to make it and he doesn’t seem to waffle for very long on “Should I or Shouldn’t I?”.
We came up short this time, but that quality in a QB is something you don’t teach and will be more succesful as he becomes more polished over time.

Steve Young and Jeff Garcia started there careers with the same mentality
Young had a decent career. :) Garcia isn’t to bad either.

Tony is similar to Shaq
They both get mauled in there sport and hardly any foul or penalty is called.

It's getting a bit ridiculous
I watched one of his catches in the Raiders game over and over again on my DVR so I could be sure where the line judge was standing before I threw something and wished for the death of that referee (I wanted to be sure he could see the pass interference before I wished the plague upon him). Gibril Wilson was apparently trying to mount Gonzalez when the ball was just leaving Thigpen’s hands, and Wilson continued to “hug” Tony for the entire 2-3 seconds that the ball was in the air…where was the line judge you ask?
Standing about 2 yards away from the Wilson attempt at a mating ritual.

Exactly.
That’s why I say BS when they say he pushes off. The defender is instigating it a lot.
