Mortenson on potential GM candidates

Yes, Pioli is one of them.

"ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has reported that Pioli is on the radar of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, and that Hunt specifically has mentioned Pioli in connection with the possibility of making another 20-year hire for the job.

Other candidates, per Mortensen, are Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis, Ravens director of college scouting Eric DeCosta, Colts assistant G.M. Chris Polian, and even former Browns G.M. Phil Savage.

Per Mort, Hunt is also interested in keeping coach Herm Edwards, but if the new G.M. doesn’t want to keep Edwards it won’t be a deal breaker."

Anyone got good info on the the other names?

Not that interested in Savage

Chris Polian is being groomed for the Indy job. Can’t imagine he’d leave.

The other two I don’t know much about. But we will soon.

He Might

Guys who take the general manager positions are often people who like to make their own destiny. Sometimes it’s more appealing to build something from scratch than to have it handed to you (e.g. Dayton Moore leaving the Braves for the Royals). So Polian may very well be interested in coming here and building his own team as opposed to succeeding his father and possibly living in his dad’s shadow.

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

I agree with what you said

but I think blood is thicker than money in that situation. I think they do not lack any money, in other words that may not be what would necessarily lure him away.

We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.

George Kokinis

http://www.baltimoreravens.com/People/Staff/Player_Personnel/George_Kokinis.aspx

“George Kokinis, in his 5th year as director of pro personnel and his 17th season as a member of the franchise, works closely with GM Ozzie Newsome in analyzing NFL rosters and coordinating and evaluating each year’s free agency market. Along with personnel recommendations, Kokinis assists vice president of football administration Pat Moriarty in negotiating contracts for some of the Ravens’ draft picks.”
