Bill Cowher will NOT be the coach for the NY Jets
Per ESPN's John Clayton. Bill Cowher WILL NOT interview for the HC position. Sources say Bill Cowher wanted to bring in his own personnel guy but the Jets want to stay with GM Mike Tannenbaum. Cowher will likely stay in broadcasting for another year.
Cowher has told friends the Jets job interested him for several reasons. First, Cowher would love to coach in the New York market. Second, two of his daughters are either going to school or working in the New York-New Jersey area.

With The Conditions He Was Setting
We don’t want him either.
That’s a definite “No” on any head coach who wants to pull double duty as a GM. Based on Clark Hunt’s planned moves with the front office, I think he realizes that giving any employee too many responsibilities is a bad thing.

It sounds like he wanted to bring in another person to assist him
Sources say Bill Cowher wanted to bring in his own personnel guy
What if he brought one of the Pittsburgh guys with him?
We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.

Didn't Help Shanahan
He had a “personnel guy” too…all that did was deflect criticism away from Shanahan when the guys Shanny told him to pick didn’t work out so well. A puppet GM is pretty much the same as no GM at all.

Or His 2007 Draft
Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder (1st and 2nd round picks) have been complete busts. Ryan Harris was a good find in the third round but you just can’t whiff on your top picks like that.

Cowher update
Jets are willing to do whatever it takes to get him. He will probably end up being the Jets next coach.

Clayton Just Did A Blurb
And said that Woody Johnson (Jets owner) said the Jets are only looking for a coach, not a coach/GM. He apparently has a management structure he wants to stick with.

It Just Posted A Little While Ago
You’re correct…the Jets are apparently interested in dumping Tannenbaum if they can get Cowher.

Yeah sports center did an update on that a bit ago.
Would love to see him in KC but I don’t think it will kill us if we don’t get him.

NOt sure the Jets is a job that would be very good
They ran a coach who didn’t want Favre in the first place and now possibly a good GM just to get Cowher.

Whats Tannenbaum's relationship with Herm?

I completely agree with splitting the duties
for anyone but Cowher. I’m sorry, but we haven’t had a clearly defined winner head coach in town since Marty (Vermeil’s reign was a bit short and we all knew the defense was doomed). He preaches defense, a highly developed offense, good drafting, and his players will KILL for him. I can understand the reticence, but he’s too big of a fish not to be willing to dangle the big bait, in my opinion.
