I think we need to make big additions this season. Unless we can get a 1st nd a 2nd or 3rd for it i dont think trading the potential away is worth it. And we would still need to be in position of getting someone good with the trade partners. Idk who would want to trade up that high.

Depends though
What kind of draft class this is. If its a deep class with the cream of the crop not really separating itself, then we should try to trade down and get multiple players – we need a lot of work. Of course, if its that kind of class, it will be hard to trade down.

I am really starting to think
We are going to draft a QB and address the defense via free agency.
Indecision is the key to flexibility

I am going to wait and see who the GM is
and if they decide to keep Herm before I make any predictions of free agency or the draft. Any thing else is just premature.

Agreed
Totally depends on the GM. Personally, I’d rather have an experienced QB and a young, hungry defense, but they’re not going to be hiring me.

McShay has 2 QB's going with the first 3 picks.
I think that regardless of who the new GM would be, he would be tempted to begin his rebuilding with a prototype QB with his first pick.
What’s frightening about that thought process is that neither Stafford or Bradford seem mature enough to be ready for the NFL.
Opinions are like A--holes, everyones got one.

Seriously
How great of shape is Detroit in for this upcoming draft now that Dallas crapped the bed against the Eagles and missed the playoffs?
They can grab a QB and a quality offensive lineman to protect him. Or they can add two high-caliber defensive players to kick off the rebuild. Or an elite offensive lineman and a pretty good defensive player. Or just about anything they want. That Roy Williams trade was an absolutely stellar bit of horse trading on Mayhew’s part…especially considering how poorly Williams has performed all year. That would be one miserable and depressing offseason if they’d been stuck with him the rest of the year then had to decide whether to franchise him or let him walk for no compensation.
Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

I really hope they make a run at a FA QB
and take Andre Smith #1. With St. Louis in front of us, we weren’t going to get him anyway and this would give us a lot more options (trade and otherwise) if all the QB’s were still available when we picked.
by KCScuba on Dec 30, 2008 11:48 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
they could very well do that
there are some killer O-linemen available… Smith or Oher wouldn’t be bad picks at all with the #1. Look how well Long turned out for Miami this year – a cornerstone that should be a rock for a decade+ barring any injury.
If they go QB, I hope it’s Stafford because I think he’s gonna suck Tori Anus, and that will fit Detroit quite nicely.

Brilliant....
…Whoever put this thing together put two AFC teams at the bottom of this…I thought no matter the record that the Superbowl participants were at the bottom…loser then winner…
might wana check on that…

The *
says “subject to playoffs” meaning the playoff participants ranking is based solely on their current record.

Thats your fault
for not reading the fine print! :-)
"In the NFL, coaching has to make a difference when the games are close. The talent level across the league from team to team is too similar. Great head coaches do their best work in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line. Instead, we’ve seen Herm blow timeouts, put the game in the hands of the league’s worst defense, and most recently, run Larry Johnson behind Wade Smith and Adrian Jones as if they were Tim Grunhard and Will Shields in their prime.
Dr. Frankenstein is gone, but his monster is still roaming the sideline at Arrowhead Stadium." -C.E. Wendler, Warpaint Illustrated

I'm happy to see New England at the bottom of the draft
with no additional top 10 pick from anybody, and the satisfaction that they’re not in the playoffs.

+1
though going 11-5 and missing the playoffs must suck…
Who knew the AFC East would be that crazy…before the Bills fell off the map, it looked like all 4 teams might win double-digit games!

Cincinnati - ha!
you lost two draft spots by beating us in that last game.
suckers!
by Ochophosphate on Dec 30, 2008 2:30 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I think that if BRadford comes out, we SHOULD use him as trade bait, San Francisco could probably use a QB and may jump all over it if Bradford is still there, at the 3 pick. The worst thing that could happen really is we don’t get a trade for that spot and we end up taking him, but i’d much rather us aquire more picks than take him.
