Lions Clear Coaching Staff, Promote Two In Front Office
The Detroit Lions announced that Tom Lewand will be promoted to team President and Martin Mayhew will be the new GM after serving as the interim GM since Matt Millen's dismissal.
Mayhew has been discussed on Arrowhead Pride as a possible candidate to replace Carl Peterson. However, Ford said just several weeks ago that Mayhew would be retained. At the time it was unknown in what capacity he would stay with the team.
The Lions also announced the dismissal of head coach Rod Marinelli which comes as no surprise after the Lions completed an NFL first 0-16 season.
Also gone is the defensive coordinator, assistant offensive line coach, secondary coach and the defensive line coach.
This is good news for the Chiefs. The Lions' GM job is now not available meaning there is less competition in the GM search.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Not A Surprise
I think that Mayhew will end up being a good hire for them as GM. He certainly isn’t going to be worse than Millen was.
Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.
I don't think Millen could ever have gotten 3 draft picks for a player
He won’t be worse and actually if he makes some good moves in the draft, the Lions SBNATION blog might get a revivial.
Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."
The Chiefs need to be playoff contenders in 2009 for me to consider improvement. Clark wanted it in 2008...I'll give them an additional year.
Thigpen WILL NOT be the Chiefs starting QB next year IMO. He can compete for the job and should be 2nd or 3rd string.
Worse than Millen
nothing short of coming in and killing a hooker in his office would sink him below Millen in the ranks of GM’s.
Millen is the prototype of “how not to be a good GM”.

Wow it surprises me that they would look to themselves for hope. I really hope the chiefs go somewhere to get their man. No promtion stuff. We need to bring in a winner.
It's Not That Surprising
Mayhew’s got some solid credentials (unlike Millen, who had zero managerial experience). It was a good hire. And Bill Polian, the Hall of Fame GM for Indianapolis, apparently thinks very highly of Mayhew.
Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.
I hope it works out
The lions are one of those teams I can’t help but root for.
