Morning Update (Exhausted Edition)

Sorry about the late post!  -Primetime

Don't forget to check out Cincy Jungle this holiday weekend.  Kirkendall and Co. have a great community over there.

Yawn...You're a day behind KC Star!

Herm does unusually have the energy of someone under the age of 12: “Does it look like it?” Edwards said when asked if he’d used up all his energy. “I don’t know where people get that from, but no. I’ve got a lot of energy.”

Herm's press conference from yesterday.  The one where the media was like skeletons.

Bob Gretz is talking rivalries.

Check out the 1976 0-14 Tampa Bay Bucs vs. the 2008 0-15 Detroit Lions.

This is interesting from WPI:

Throughout the Vermeil era, fans and media members constantly referred to a “window of opportunity” for winning a Super Bowl. As Green, Priest Holmes, Roaf, and everyone else aged, that window slowly closed. Have you ever heard the phrase “window of opportunity” uttered in reference to Pittsburgh, New England, Philadelphia or Tampa Bay? No. Even after the retirement of Tiki Barber and Michael Strahan, the Giants are still a viable championship contender.

About time you got this up!:)

Was Bones at the press conferance, he must have been a happy guy! I was just reading a debate over at WPI, does anyone know what corner Herm was talking about when the coverage was blown in the SD game? Yep he made it hard to figure out who it was when Herm said it was not a rookie.

Lets hope Clark lets the new GM start fresh, with his guys. Who would want a coach, who has lost twice as many as he has won in KC?

I know

There was some confusion between Chris and I about the morning post. He’s traveling today.

Hey, a post by 8ish every work day the rest of the year doesn’t count? :)

Yeah you all have

Worked hard keeping us informed, some slack is due!

Right

That’s why we’ll keep the mockery of you for misspelling “update” to a minimum, Prime.

Jackass. :)

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

Whoaa

Didn’t even notice that. Thanks.

You Should Leave It There

It highlights the “exhaustion”. :)

LOL

I had that up there for like 2 hours!

Ahh…the holidays are getting to me. Few hours at work today then I’m done…

Another hour for me

Off at NOON!

"In the NFL, coaching has to make a difference when the games are close. The talent level across the league from team to team is too similar. Great head coaches do their best work in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line. Instead, we’ve seen Herm blow timeouts, put the game in the hands of the league’s worst defense, and most recently, run Larry Johnson behind Wade Smith and Adrian Jones as if they were Tim Grunhard and Will Shields in their prime.

What can he say?

I’m depressed as hell and the wife has hid all the knives? You have to put on your big boy pants and man up. He’s human, its been a horrible year and he is about to lose his job so of course he’s down. He won’t admit it to the media though.

by FrankPitts on Dec 24, 2008 9:33 AM CST reply actions

And That's Fair Enough

I don’t really blame him for being evasive now. No point in giving a straight scoop…won’t change anything. A new management team will be in next year and what Herm says in press conferences will have no relevance so say anything the press can ding you on?

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

Correction

…so why say anything the press can ding you on?

by UCrawford on Dec 24, 2008 10:09 AM CST up reply actions

I'm depressed with the KC media

in that they didn’t hound him for answers more so than they have. They just let him answer their questions in his double-talk Herm “everything’s ok” manner and never tried for straight answers it seemed.

Posnanski Wrote A Good Column About That A Couple Of Days Ago

About how the direct questions will never help your story and how the indirect questions are usually the ones that illicit unintentional truth.

Herm says nothing useful in his answers, which is pretty much the same result that his answers on the field yield. The KC media realizes the guy’s just smoke and mirrors…they’re just letting everyone else see it for themselves.

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

by UCrawford on Dec 24, 2008 10:25 AM CST up reply actions

Unintentional truth

can just as easily be smoke and mirrors as well. Herms a BS artist.

That's Why

All that really matters is the results on the field, not what the coach thinks “should have” happened on the field.

And that’s why the realists aren’t willing to give Herm another year…because they realize that his record is clearly indicative of what kind of coach he is. A losing one.

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

by UCrawford on Dec 24, 2008 10:30 AM CST up reply actions

Windows Of Opportunity

Always seems to me that the only time you hear that phrase used in relation to successful teams is when they’re talking about individual players not getting a shot at a Super Bowl because they’re getting old (e.g. “Tony Gonzalez’s window of opportunity is closing”).

Teams themselves don’t have windows of opportunities…you’re either building a team to compete for a title or you’re not. And if you’re not, then the fans need to demand better management.

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

by UCrawford on Dec 24, 2008 10:22 AM CST reply actions

Right

But I thought I remember hearing that about the Pat’s D last season. Dunno, just throwing garbage out of my mouth :)

The Window Of Opportunity

Was for guys like Seau, who’s at the end of his career. The Pats, however, are going to be competitive as long as Belichick stays on top of his game.

Well,

not that I looked into it or cared much, but rumor had it that the Pats were old on defense last season.. God this feels so pointless lol.
