Around SBN: Notre Dame's Turnaround: How Have The Irish Done It?

The National Football League informed the Chiefs on Tuesday that CB Maurice Leggett has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in Week 13 of the 2008 NFL regular season. This marks the first time Leggett has earned this distinction, becoming the second Chiefs defender to ever win this honor.

S Bernard Pollard was the first Chiefs player to take home AFC Special Teams POW accolades in Week 17 of 2006 after blocking a punt and recovering it in the end zone for a TD in a 35-30 win vs. Jacksonville (12/31).

Good for him!

Good For Leggett

He’s been a very decent DB since he got here. And that was a nice play last week.

The Chiefs should win 5 to 6 games this year and no less than 4 for this season to be considered progress in any way.

I read this one more time and something shocking stood out

First, I don’t want to take anything away from Leggett.

Second, he was only the second Chief to ever receive this award? No wonder our special teams always sucks.

Yes

I’m sure Dante Hall got it at least once…didn’t he have 2 returns for TD’s in one game?

Devils Advocate

How much did Leggett actually contribute to that TD? If Oakland didn’t make that boneheaded call, would he still have won POW? Probably not….

(Sorry, had a shitty day at work and the glass is half empty right now)

Well no

and if they never kicked to Devin Hester, he’d never win Player of the Week either. We weren’t running a block, we were running a safe coverage, and Leggett stayed home and did exactly what he was supposed to do. Had he been trying to block it, he would have dived and been laying in front of Lechler, and the Raiders might have succeeded even with the fumble. (Watch it again, the Raiders had two guys moving to the second level to prepare to block to seal us inside)
