Hard Hittin' D
I know I'll probably get lit up for making this point but I couldn't help but notice some enthusiasm and hard playing defense on Sunday at Oakland. Granted we didn't get much pressure and played a mediocre game but I was impressed with the way we flew to the ball and laid some hats when we got there.
I know, I know, if Jamarcus Russel could throw a decent pass this game would have been different, but all things included, we looked like a tougher defense.
Derrick Johnson laid out Justin Fargas and the corners made some good hits. I think we have a long way to go to be a respectable or feared defense but putting hits on people all game long is a step in the right direction. I think even if we give up tons of yards and get burnt on occasion, there is something to be said for a hard hitting defense.
I am not thoroughly impressed by the overall team performance against the Raiders but a win is a win and I will take it. I hate seeing these posts about how this is a step in the wrong direction because we barely beat a bad team (which they pretty much handed us) but as long as I can recall the Raiders and Chiefs games are always close and physical no matter how good the Chiefs are and how bad the raiders are.
Just thought that this was a performance that I had not seen out of our defense in a long while and I hope we can build on it.
Go Chiefs!!!

Good hard hits
We certainly weren’t playing the touch football we played against the Bills.
Blame my wife!

Everyone keeps saying this
I know, I know, if Jamarcus Russel could throw a decent pass this game would have been different
Well, yeah…and if we had Tom Brady as our QB, the Jaguars game would have been different, and the Chargers game would have been different, and the first Raiders game would have been different.
Why can’t we just enjoy the win? Why do we have to emphasize that our opponent’s QB sucked and that he gave us the game while ignoring the fact that when OUR QB sucks, he gives our opponents the game?

I am pretty sure that is where he was going with this.
I think the reason he made that statement was because he figured someone was going to. Our fan base has turned so negative that he probably figured someone was going to slam it.
I agree with you 100%. A win is a win and they aren’t coming to often right now. I decided to quit getting mad because it won’t change anything.

Except That Thigpen Doesn't Give Our Opponents The Game
Our defense does because they can’t stop the run, rush the passer or hold a lead. Thigpen’s often the only thing keeping this team in the game, it’s just that if he makes any mistakes the defense isn’t good enough to make up for it. And expecting perfection every week is not a reasonable expectation, either for a second-year player or a 10 year vet.
JaMarcus Russell, on the other hand, gives the games away because he can’t complete passes, has no touch on his throws and tries to throw 100 mph whether he’s 50 yards or five feet away from his target. He just flat-out sucks as a QB.
The Chiefs should win 5 to 6 games this year and no less than 4 for this season to be considered progress in any way.

Baloney
what was the average starting field position for the Bills…like midfield? =)
Thigpen’s three turnovers in our territory had something to do with that.
and if he remains our QB for several years, there will be a game we lose almost solely because of Thigpen…

You should
warm Thigpen’s jock-strap for him. He’s bringing life back to KC, and can actually avoid sacks. This guy seems like the real deal to me, and I always said Brodie was SHIT! Lets be positive for the squad. ( But not for Germ Deadwards)

what does that even mean?
i’ve never heard the line about warming someone’s jockstrap…what is it supposed to allude to/connotate?

Even Without The Turnovers
The Chiefs defense still would have lost the game…they gave up 34 points without the turnovers.
And so what if they had to make two stops from bad field position (one of Thigpen’s was a pick six, so they only had to deal with two Thigpen-created turnovers). Are defenses not required to make defensive stops if they have bad field position? Should we automatically put seven points on the board if the defense has to defend from inside the 50, excuse the defense and say it’s all Thigpen’s fault? The Chiefs couldn’t stop the Bills when they were inside the 50, they couldn’t stop the Bills when they were outside the 50…they blew that game, and the loss wasn’t Thigpen’s fault.
The Chiefs should win 5 to 6 games this year and no less than 4 for this season to be considered progress in any way. If he can't win at least 9 games next season, Herm's a joke.

You are absolutely right
I never said it was Thigpnen’s fault. Football is a team game the team lost it was the team’s fault. Not just the players not just the coach the ENTIRE team.
Defense didn’t make plays to get off the field, Thigpen made turnovers, probably a few bad playcalls all contributed to the loss

Wow PV all I said was that the game would have been different not that they for sure would have beaten us. All I was saying was that the defense looked ok, not terrible and not great. I said I do enjoy the win and I enjoy watching every chiefs game win or lose.
Now about saying that our QB sucks, um when have we had a great quaterback-not for a while. Trent Green was the closest we had and he had no mobility. Thigpen may not be the answer but he is a football player and has lasted longer than anyone else who has been given a shot. Do you want them to put in Gray!? I think not

I wasn't jumping on your back
I just saw many similar comments and thought “well you can say that about almost any player for any team”
by PVChiefsfan on Dec 2, 2008 3:37 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
You are Right
But I watched the whole game and there were at least five plays where he just plain overthrew an open reciever. I just don’t want all these negative fans to jump on me for sayin our D played good.
I was just impressed to see some hits and like I said-that’s progress. Even the best defenses get burned but if you lay wood all game long something good is bound to happen.
I also thought Boiman played a decent game, kinda reminds me of maslowski. Seems like he might make a decent linebacker and special teams guy. We need players that play hard, fast, and can make tackles!!!
