First Ban on AP

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to pass along that we had our first ban ever on Arrowhead Pride for inappropriate language. The really offensive stuff occurred over at The Phinsider, where this user was also banned. The commenter's conduct was consistently border line insulting over time, if not outright insulting. He was warned about certain commments made on AP months ago and he repeated those comments at The Phinsider yesterday.

For those of you that saw the comments at The Phinsider and who have read this user's comments over the last six months or so, I think you'll agree that this was entirely warranted.

I think it's a great testament to the strength of our online community that it's been two and a half years and this is the first ban.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Yeah, you do

not hate on the dead, unless of course it is BinLaden! Then you capture him alive, tie him up in times square, stuff his ass full of pork!

Lets hope Clark lets the new GM start fresh, with his guys. Who would want a coach, who has lost twice as many as he has won in KC?

I'd have

a transvestite in a bikini do the stuffing.

I opened the door to see my 18-month old and, in a trembling voice said, "You will never remember what it was like to have to root for the Chiefs under Carl Peterson."

Why so serious?

C’mon, we all know HIV2Elway is some kind of alcoholic asshole, but you have to admit, he does lighten things up around here with some funny ass comments

his stuff at Phinsider

made me embarrassed for Chiefs fans. There is a line and I think he crossed it.

We just know better

I think we have just grown used to his jackass comments and to not take them seriously. The dudes at the Phinsider didnt know how to handle

I Thought His Darrent Williams Comments Were Over The Line

There wasn’t anything funny about what happened to Williams or the aftermath of it. I can be as abrasive as anyone here and even I wouldn’t go there.

And as much as we enjoy the freedom Chris affords us, it’s still his blog. He gets to set standards. And he warned HIV about those Darrent Williams remarks before so it’s not like it came out of the blue for him. I found many of HIV’s remarks amusing or even insightful at times, and I’m sorry he got banned, but just because there’s freedom of speech out here on the Net doesn’t mean there’s freedom from consequence for the things you say.

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

I don't want to kick him out

I was also embarrassed

It’s possible to be entertaining without being that far across the line. We get away with a lot here, but he repeatedly went too far.

I applaud the decision. Let him go poison some other online community.

by R2J_24 on Dec 18, 2008 11:48 AM CST reply actions

Well I will add my two cents

take the heat and shut up. It amazes me at times when a person takes the time to actually think of what foul language they are gonna use to make a point. Foul language is more of a social interaction when people are either hamming it up or getting upset with one another, either way, it’ usually an emotion type thing. The internet doesn’t always give the reader a true expression of emotions and thats when the language gets lost. At that point it almost seems useless to even type it in. I am not against a word here or there ever, sometimes I even get caught up in the moment. But I try harder not to type something that has less of an impact on my coming across with an intelligent response or comment. I do not always succed though.
I hate that anyone has to get banned for language when the circumstances such as this are seen, not heard, but this site is succesful because of the young man (men) who founded it and run it everyday. As UC stated, we are their guests and should always remember that.
I for one would be embarrassed if banned from a blog site for language.

No, you guys run a pretty tight ship around here.

From what I’ve seen over the past few weeks visiting your site in preparation for this game on Sunday I’ve been pretty impressed with your site. It’s very obvious that Chiefs fans are very passionate, and I wish you all the best in your rebuilding process. Us Miami fans obviously know what that is all about, and it’s pretty sweet when handled correctly.

That being said, I hope we can sustain your misery for a weeeeeee bit longer this weekend. Here’s to a great game and no injuries!

I understand

where you’re coming from completely, Chris. But HIV 2 Elway was the funniest poster here and despite his tact (or lack thereof) he made contributions to this community and there was a place for him. I just don’t like seeing “one of us” (we’re only as strong as our weakest link) being cast away. Is there anyway he could be banned from all SB sites except this one? I’m all for second and sometimes third chances. Life’s too funny to take seriously…

For what it's worth

As a Chiefs fan, I was embarrassed by that comment. I am not particulary offended by dirty words and/or crude humor, but by their intent or meaning behind them. What could he have meant by saying what he did that in any way could be interpreted as funny?

by TheQ on Dec 18, 2008 12:32 PM CST reply actions

everything else was just your everyday normal smack talk between fans.. but I met Darrent Williams and I met Sean Taylor many times while he played at UM, so that really struck a nerve with me.. But.. it’s water under the bridge now, and I’m sure we’re both looking forward to Sunday’s game..

Question: how many of you guys here attend games regularly?

Like when you’re a guest in someone else’s house…which is what blogging is most akin to. Ownership gives you the right to set standards and deny service. Chris owns the AP blog, he set the standards, he informed HIV of the standards, so he has a right to deny service. Nothing bullshit about it.

I call bullshit

I made my first comment in this thread without reading the comments at Phinsider and unless some were deleted/removed I don’t see what the fuss is about. Yes, he referenced Darrent Williams but for the most part everything the guy stated over their was true. He wasn’t being abusive, he wasn’t being abrasive, he wasn’t out of character. He may have lacked class but is that a crime? If anything, THEY seemed like they were trying to start something and for each comment he made they overreacted. He kept his composure (which is probably more than I would have done) and pegged a few of them and they got butt-hurt and defensive. He wasn’t making any threats or making personal attacks. I just don’t like censorship in any form and his comments I don’t believe were worthy of a ban

S'long as the bar is fairly high

And you don’t play favorites.

Your site, your rules, sure, but I’ve seen plenty of fora go to hell because of faforitism or such a low standard on bans as to be stifling to any discussion at all. When in doubt, if you see something that yuo think might be worthy of banning, but ain’t sure, let it slide once – then post that you won’t tolerate a repetition if said action in an open thread. If nothing else, you’ll hear from the rest of the posters in the comments, and it might bring you clarity, one way or the other.

Ain’t criticising, or judging – Just laying out some advice that is worth every penny you paid for it.

From what I read, it wasn’t too bad, but i can’t say I disagree with the ban either. If your name has to do with hoping a non-curable (minus magic johnson) upon someone, opponent or not, than I think you have bigger issues to deal with than whether or not the Chiefs are going to win this sunday…

I didn’t get to read all of his comments. But what I did see seemed a little abrasive. I usually hang out and chat in those posts, but after what he was writing, I just closed out and came back here. Hi Arrowhead's

Just wanted to share what I posted at the Phinsider.

Respect to you Chris
Sorry you had to do this, and I wish the Phinsider wasn’t part of the story. But, things like this happen in the internet world. You seem like a class act and a good rep for your team. All the best too you in the future, I hope your rebuilding makes some of our opponents in the AFC East suffer some. Good luck next year and hope the Chiefs get back on top, they to me, are one of the "good guys" in the NFL. Also, don’t be ashamed of your team because of people like that, the smart fans and bloggers understand. I do at least.

Man, you would have thought it would have been the Broncos or the Raiders that set that guy off……. : )

The sentiments are for all of you though, good luck in the future!
