Star-divide

First off, I would like to offer my condolences following Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers.  I found a streaming video feed online to watch the game, and I cannot believe the Chargers pulled that one out.  As a Dolphin fan I feel that I can somewhat relate to the feeling a game like this leaves in your stomach, but there's nothing you can do but move on.

Thus, we move to Week 16!  While I understand that the immediate ramifications of our match-up may be heavier for the Dolphins,  every game is a big game at this time of year because the season is almost up (after Week 17 how many AP members go back to being Royals fans?).

In all honesty, the Kansas City Chiefs frighten me to death right now.  While I don't think this Dolphins team can fall victim to a "trap" game (I don' think our coaching staff would let that happen), I wouldn't necessarily consider this to be a trap game because of your team's talent level.  Specifically, I feel your Tyler Thigpen led offense is exactly the type of attack that can give the Miami defense fits.  Over the course of the season the Dolphins' defense has earned itself a "bend-don't-break" title, giving up drives, but solidifying in the red zone.  Naturally,  a target like Tony Gonzalez near the goal line can go a long way towards cracking a defense.

My allegiances lie squarely with my Dolphins, but I admire the Chiefs an awful lot.  Like Miami, your Kanas City team is a proud franchise with a rich history that has fallen on hard times as of late.  Let me be the first to tell you that this state isn't perpetual, and a change will come eventually.  So, I'd love to hear AP's opinions on our match-up and I look forward to a hard fought and (hopefully) injury free game!

Thanks, Phinsider.

As down as some of us are about are team, it is always nice to hear some perspective from other fans.

Honestly, I think your D will have a few sacks against us. Bones is mobile, but the Fins blitz really well.

I think the key to beating our D is to run effectively in obvious running situations. All season long, when our D tries to stop the run and fails, the front seems to deflate.

Our secondary is good, but vulnerable. Watch the Cover 2 zone and know where to sit. We perpetually allow throws to the known holes on the Cover 2.

I would also say to avoid trying to be too creative with the O calls. Our D, while statistically awful, is very adept at capitalizing on many plays. The Chiefs are good at allowing the opposition to try to outthink themselves and making them pay.

As far as our O, hell, we are not sure what to see half to half. If we have a lead at halftime, expect us to resort to the run in the 3rd quarter and be ultra-conservative. If you see tendencies in the 1st half, your adjustments will likely work in the 2nd.

Also, watch for our corners to play 10 yards off from the receivers. This should really open up the underneath routes…especially the quick slants. A double set pick to the outside would really work well, too.

In summation, play quick, short passing routes mixed with counter run plays given our D’s over pursuit.

On D, play Man QB Spy type defense and and defend the outside run.

This is more honest than I wanted to be, but Parcells already knows this about us. I just wanted to state it and see if our coaches can adapt.

Sorry about the triple post, but I had to add...

Camp on Tony G running 10-12 yard post routes on the hash.

I have always loved Tony.

Particularly, his United Way commercial from back in the day when he couldn’t handle any items tossed to him in the kitchen after being touted by the narrator as “having good hands.” Classic.

I’d like to know how Chiefs nation feels about Tony right now. I know he’s been huge over the second half the season, but are their any hard feelings left over from the trading deadline?

I have no hard feelings

The team was in absolute dissarray when he asked to be traded. Now, not so much. They’re still pretty bad, but at least they’re bad while staying “competitive.” Whatever the hell that means.

have you seen my baseball?

Whatever the hell that means.

I think it means we lose, but somehow make excuses for losing “better” and “better” every week? Dunno, just a guess :)

The Chiefs need to be playoff contenders in 2009 for me to consider improvement. Clark wanted it in 2008...I'll give them an additional year.

again

you see them as excuses when others just see them as causes.

Cause we have 2 wins

and horrible loses….lol. There are no more ‘causes’. Some people will never admit they’re wrong…lol. No problem, see you next year in the same situation. My sig. pretty much surmises what my stance is on success…you just keep moving the ‘goal post’ to appease your postion.
Many have seen the light…at least my goal for succes in this organization can be attributed to a specific accomplishment that can be measured. Playoffs next year, period.

Oh and one more thing PV

…here’s a quote from UC that I think surmises it.

I’m Not Going To Shut Up
Even if Herm gets a lifetime contract. I expect results from this football team and if they don’t provide them I’m going to continue running my mouth about what a bunch of idiots the people running that team are.

Being a fan does not mean unconditionally accepting every piece of manure idea that the team’s leaders crap out onto the fans. That’s what being a cult member means.

i hope i'm not talking out of turn here.

but i agree with this quote. after suffering through that miserable season last year, i think a true fan wants the best for his team… and sometime the best = change. Miami could have easily won 3-4 more games last year with better coaching/play calling/game planning. Many people wanted to “give Cam a chance” but the coaches were part of the problem.
This year is the opposite. The Fins are playing better than their talent level. 9 wins? Overachieving. The difference? Yes, we have overhauled the roster, but the difference isn’t a bunch of high priced talent. It is a group of guys being coached to play to theit abilities, and as a team.
Cameron and crew would never have been able to achieve this, even if you gave him 3 more years. And as a fan, a real fan, I was screaming for his head last year. I feel that the results this year justify my position. :)

Your team has talent… actually, the Chiefs seem like they have had a few bad breaks at QB, but still have more talent at the skill positions than the Fins.
IMO.

run..pass..do what you will.

Your phins are gonna crush us next Sunday. Why? Because the phins need a win for a play off spot or even a division win, and its obvious that the phins have a very good coaching staff so I don’t think the phins will fall into a trap. I honestly don’t think the Chiefs will recover in time for next weeks game, or the next. Our season is finished, say hello to 2 and 14 record chiefs fans. Maybe the game will be close the first half, but I expect the phins to open up second half like every other team we’ve played. Phins have a reason to win, and the chiefs have a reason to lose.

Also, much appreciation for your input!

as a Fin Fan, i am more worried about the Chiefs than i was about SF.

You guys have the ability to open it up and turn this into a shootout, weather permitting. The Fins don’t play that type of game well (see last NE game).
As much as people are talking about the disadvantage to Miami of playing in cold/poor weather, a slow ground game would be to our advantage. Also, I have not seen Herm let his guys quit in the past, although in all honesty, i haven’t watched the Chiefs consistently enough to have a good opinion on this.
And hey! you guys have Surtain! He will be back, right? so there goes our passing game. sorry, j/k. i loved him on the Fins, but what the heck happened to him? did he just get old?

Looooooosing

We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.

I do remember Walden.

Matty made a little post about him when he signed with us.

Specifically, I remember his HUGE hit on special teams in his first game for us.

He is 3rd on the depth chart at the SLB position, behind Moses

but Moses is often inactive. I guess because Walden is on STs.
