Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

Our Rookies

So I am all of the way out here in Sacramento, CA and have only been able to watch a hand full of games, due to various reasons.  First they aren't on over here very much (not like the Montana years where we got all 16 games or the early 2000s when we scored 150 points a game and they were fun to watch).  All I remember hearing after the draft was KC had a great draft.  I think most "experts" gave them an "A" for their picks.

So based on the fact that I haven't been able to watch much, I am relying on the Pride to give me your opinions.  We had a couple of high profile first round picks in Dorsey and Albert.  How have they turned out?  Also, there was a lot of excitement over Charles, what do you think now?

Granted we have two games left, but really, I won't expect them to turn into pro bowlers in the last two games.  Have they grown in their first year?  The book is essentially still out, but is Dorsey the new Ryan Sims?

We are suppose to be young and inexperienced, but have any of you seen anything in our young guys to be excited about?

I still think it was a good draft.

A lot of these guys we won’t know about for years though. They aren’t superstars or busts just based off one year.

Glenn Dorsey – Has only been a disappointment this year because we expected to hear his name a lot more than we did. But quietly he is far above any other rookie DT in Tackles. I think he will just need time to come into his own just like Warren Sapp, Albert Haynesworth and some of the other Pro Bowl DTs did. None of them were fantastic their rookie (or even second season) either.

Brandon Albert – Fantastic pick. The guy missed all of training camp and came in against a team that went 16-0 last season and didn’t miss a beat. Considering he is playing a different position than he did in college and even so has only given up 4(?) sacks all year is pretty good.

Brandon Flowers – Another young guy that has already begun producing. No reason to believe he won’t get better and better over time.

Jamaal Charles – Though they use him differently than I expected, I think his speed will do a lot for us. I’m a little concerned about his durability, seems like he gets hurt alot (though maybe he keeps rolling that same ankle because its not quite healed?) but he’s been bouncing back. He’ll never be a workhorse back, but he adds a lot to our offense.

Brad Cottam – I don’t think we’re going to see much out of him until Tony G retires / leaves, but he has done outstanding as a blocking TE so far.

DaJuan Morgan – I think we’ll see a lot more of Morgan next year. He was a young Junior coming out of college and the coaches thought he needed time to adjust just like Pollard did.

Will Franklin – If you can say you’re disappointed in anyone, I would say I’m a little disappointed in Franklin. During the preseason he was fantastic and seemed to have a good raport with Croyle, but after the injury we’ve not seen a whole lot of him. It’s not uncommon though for WRs to take a year or two to develop so we’ll see how he does next year.

Brandon Carr – I think he and Flowers will be our CBs for a long time to come. It’s pretty obvious he is a little behind Flowers as far as technique goes, but that’s to be expected. The fact that he’s started the majority of the season after coming out of a small school as a 5th round pick is outstanding. I think he will get better over time as well.

Kevin Robinson – I’ve not been terribly impressed with him so far. Wish he had been able to play the entire season so we could have seen more of him. He definately has some moves and I think he’s done better as a punt returner than anyone we’ve had since Dante. I’d like to see him get some more yardage on kickoffs, but we’ll see how he does the rest of the season.

Barry Richardson – Raw as a Tackle can be. I wonder if he’ll ever break the starting lineup now that they are moving to the Arrowspread rather than the smashmouth running game.

Brian Johnston – Wasn’t the Jared Allen clone we all secretly hoped he’d be, but he came from a small school and didn’t face NFL caliber competition. I’m sure we’ll get to see how he progresses next year, but he may never be more than a rotation guy.

Michael Merritt – Haven’t seen him but I think we will next year. They seemed to have big plans for him as a blocking TE, but will the move to the Arrowspread affect him too?

How about the undrafted guys?

Mike Cox – I think he’s done well. He will get better over time I’m sure.

Maurice Leggett – Took him some time to adjust but he’s been getting better every week.

Dude... Cynema...

I live in CA too. But I watch each and every game… Without Direct TV’s NFL Sunday ticket (I knew we were gonna continue to suck this year, so I didnt purchase it)… But I DO watch the games online. Go to Justin.tv or Channelsurfing.com

They broadcast all the games for free.

My fellow California Chiefs fan, there is no need for you to be missing our games (no matter how bad we suck).

Oh yeah, and there are 3 games left in the season.

And don't forget...

Channel 2 (cbs) the CHIEFS vs. Chargers. It’ll air this Sunday for sure.

i love cali but

that weather has been freaking great here all season and it has been hard to stay inside a sports bar or even pay for the ticket. i can’t justify spending $250 for a season where, based on other commitments that i already have, i can only watch about 4-6 games. so i have to rely on this site and watching snippets when i can. i hope it is on this sunday. the local CBS station here sucks when it comes to putting games on TV. the other thing that happens is both FOX and CBS local stations won’t have two games on (one morning and afternoon game). either FOX will have an AM and PM game or the CBS station will have an AM and PM game on. And since the niners are in Miami, that will be a morning game on FOX. ah hell, TV is way too complicated. maybe next year i will put down the coin and get the ticket.

BTW, thanks ChiefDJ for the summary on our picks. that was way above and beyond what i was expecting. i hope you are right with our young talent. otherwise, we have got a lot of years ahead of us before we are average again, let alone being good again.
