So why has the pass protection improved? First, there’s better talent at three of the five positions. Branden Albert is an upgrade over Damion McIntosh at left tackle, and McIntosh is an upgrade over all the bodies that played right tackle in ‘07 (Kyle Turley, Chris Terry and Will Svitek.) For the most part, Adrian Jones has been an upgrade over John Welbourn. Brian Waters has enjoyed a better season this year than last. Only center has not shown improvement. The Chiefs wanted a big center with the power running game and that’s one of several reasons they had no interest in re-signing Casey Wiegmann. Rudy Niswanger has done an OK job, but he’s not quite the style of what most teams seek in a spread offensive lineman.

I know it sounds crazy
but would it be that bad to draft a Center in Round 2? (I’m thinking of the guy from Cal)…from what I’ve seen and read, the guy is smart and has remarkable agility for a big guy…or could we get him at the beginning of the third round?

Alex Mack
From what I’ve heard/read, he’ll go in the 2nd round. I’d rather have Niswanger at C for another year than McIntosh at RT for another year.

Exactly.
There’s a slight chance Niswanger can still improve at center; I don’t foresee McIntosh getting better ever.
And, really, is one revolving door at RT actually any better than three?

McIntosh sucks
but amazingly (and it’s scary that this is even possible) he is better than “Terribley”

Maybe Richardson will be ready to play next year
Can’t be much worse than McIntosh and at least they should be able to run the football on the right side again if nothing else.

Though if they stick with the Arrowspread
They will want a RT that can pass defend better than run block so maybe Richardson doesn’t fit the bill there.

I saw a draft ranking
that had Mack as the #1 Center and the 21st overall player in the 2009 draft. Could a Center actually go in Round 1?

Nick Mangold Did
And I don’t think the Jets have regretted it.
"Going younger" is not the same as improving unless it's followed by tangible results. When a bad team keeps the same management team that ran them into the toilet then goes "young" by getting rid of all of their older players, and replaces them with young players who aren't showing much improvement, it's not a rebuild...it's a salary dump and "rebuilding" is just the marketing strategy for the chumps to convince them to keep buying tickets.
The Chiefs should win 5 to 6 games this year and no less than 4 for this season to be considered progress in any way. If he can't win at least 9 games next season, Herm is a joke.

If Mack was around at the beginning of Round 2, would you pick him?

I would with no doubts about it
I get the same vibe from what I have seen of him that I got from Brandon Albert last year.
Some scouts are saying that he might be the top OFFENSIVE LINEMAN of the class. If you’re a Center and they are talking about you being up into the 1st round potentially, that means you’re a damn good one.

Sure
If he rates as one of the the BPAs for that draft position and it’s a position of need (which center is) then I think it should be a no-brainer.

The line has had a chance to play some games
consecutively which seems to help. Hopefully Niswanger can play. Having a chance to gel and also having a mobile QB has helped.

That is why sacks are down some.
Tyler does not stand back there running around like a chicken with his head cutoff trying to complete a pass, he tucks it, and goes. If we had stayed with the r2-p2, the PARADE would be chuckin passes for the Chiefs!
At least 10-6 next year taking our division, or Herm goes.

Hell,
I thought Herm was going to come up and ask me to be QB in one of the games I went to.
have you seen my baseball?
