OFFICIAL Bones Bandwagon-'cause PARADE doesn't own "OFFICIAL" (updated 2)

First, I was horribly wrong and know nothing about QB's.  I have no choice and have to admit it.

Second, Bones is 66-102 for 710 yards, 6 TDs and 0 INTs, with 0 fumbles lost the last 3 games.  He has done it while being more aggressive passing and down to the 3rd & 4th string RBs with our mediocre O-Line.

Third, Bones has completely outperformed most everyone's wildest expectations.  His decision making and composure have been impeccable.  He has even made a noticed effort to not run and wait for the play to develop.

Fourth, Bones brazenly taunted Death, himself (deranged Hamlet style) and must be respected.

[U] Fifth, Bones' QB rating of 104.62 over the last 3 games is better than all these great QBs over the last 3 games. Thanks, ChiefsDude!

Sixth, Bones has shown us more than Croyle, and we were willing to give Croyle nearly 2 seasons to maybe become who Bones already has in 4 starts with which less to work.

I am absolutely behind Thigpen.  He is not the next Len Dawson, but he can be the first QB we have developed who is able to achieve what Lenny did.

How do you feel about Bones?

It is hard not to root for a guy that plays like he does.

Especially a young guy that we didn’t have to trade a first round pick for. It is easy to root for the underdog.

The more important aspect to your point is,

that he doesn’t play like someone who is an underdog.

by DThomasReigns on Nov 9, 2008 9:24 PM CST up reply actions

He brings excitement

He also has the ability to make a play from anywhere on the field

Actually

what does he have to lose? I think he’s having the time of his life and it’s transpiring over into good play.

Give me to the end of the year and then repost the poll.

I need a full season to see him “seasoned”

Just keep matriculating the ball down the field boys.

Remind and I will.

however, Croyle had a nearly 2 year pass and Thigpen has already achieved more than Croyle (sans wins, of course).

by DThomasReigns on Nov 9, 2008 9:32 PM CST up reply actions

Actually...

The PARADE patented it back in week 5’s PARADEBULATION. However, we’re cool with it, just make sure you get some t-shirts or buttons or a non dot blogspot domain name or something, we wouldn’t want the OFFICIALness diluted.

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Nov 9, 2008 9:42 PM CST reply actions

The PARADE's also working on a hypothesis..

that bones is just dumb enough to be a great QB. Part apology, part insult, part compliment, but seriously, Joe Montana, mind like a golden retriever, Joe Namath, completely preoccupied with broads and booze, Terry Bradshaw, follows bugs around the room with his eyes, Favre, slack jawed yokel extraordinaire, the list goes on.

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Nov 9, 2008 9:47 PM CST up reply actions

If you look at his college stats

Every year he consistently got better. His senior year his qb rating was 110.

Something I have been fearing to admit is that

maybe Dick Curl’s message is getting through to him, even though it has failed with every other QB…in history.

by DThomasReigns on Nov 9, 2008 9:46 PM CST up reply actions

The best thing about this season

may end up being how bad and unhealthy our 1st and 2nd string qbs were.

Indecision is the key to flexibility

by cmpotter on Nov 9, 2008 9:50 PM CST up reply actions

I was thinking something similar earlier today

Maybe we didn’t waste this season and did develop a QB, although unexpectedly.

We may have the freedom to use our high draft pick next year on a position other than QB. If Bones can play 85% as well as he has the last 3 games, we can do whatever we want with that 1st round draft pick.

by DThomasReigns on Nov 9, 2008 9:58 PM CST up reply actions

If he can continue to play like he has been

We can draft the best player available like people have been posting in other posts/

Seriously.

Thank goodness Damon Huard got hurt.

If he doesn’t get hurt against the Titans, we plod along for much of this season with Damon, likely, and while the rest of our young team would probably continue to improve, the games wouldn’t be nearly as exciting and I doubt we would have been as competitive.

by rockchalk on Nov 9, 2008 10:07 PM CST up reply actions

On Huard,

Why was Huard on the sidelines today and not Croyle? They’re both on IR, but Huard gets to make the trip to SD…WTF?

Huard is going to be more helpful than Croyle?

I have no clue to be honest.

extremely

I don’t see him fitting our long-term plans at all.

The QB roster next year will probably be:
Thigpen
Quinn
Yet-to-be-named-drafted QB(s)

by Ochophosphate on Nov 10, 2008 12:35 PM CST up reply actions

Interesting you point that out.

My dad keeps making the point. Not really sure why Croyle isn’t making the trip, but I guarantee that if it was medically OK and if Croyle wanted to, he would make the trips. But he wasn’t even on the sideline last week at home.

I don’t know if it is because of the injury or what, but I think that Croyle’s days in Kansas City are done.

Next year keep Bones, Quinn Gray/other random half veteran but with some upside (i.e. Not Damon Huard or someone of that ilk) and draft a project QB. And there’s your three. No room for Brodie.

by rockchalk on Nov 10, 2008 12:26 AM CST up reply actions

i'm guessing

that it is not smart for him to hop on a plane and travel that far after knee surgery. my wife had that surgery a few years back and she was not too happy for quite some time. I am willing to bet standing on the sidelines for a game was not an option medically.

We needed a real QB coach

Dick Curl has no ability to be the QB coach so we need someone who has actually played the position in the NFL to give Thigpen some advice.

I have to admit, after the Atlanta game, I was pretty sure that my ham sandwich could be a better QB than TT. I have now prepared corn, sweet potatoes, and gravy to complement my crow. I seem to get a little giddy watching him play (’lil man crush I guess). he has the pocket stature of a seasoned pro. good to see. I will have to make my decision about QBOTF after the Cinci game, though. until then, I wish him well and will send him letters with little hearts drawn all over it :).

Why would we get rid of brodie and try to develop another 3rd or such round draft pick? wont we just be in the same position we were in 2 years ago? why not keep brodie as a backup and continue to develop him. i think he would be a great backup to be honest….at least better than huard

Rec this up if you're on the Bones Bandwagon

And, judging by the poll results, most everyone is.

by Joel Thorman on Nov 10, 2008 7:54 AM CST reply actions

Derek Anderson

Hes the only thing from keeping me from jumpin on the bandwagon right now. I love seeing a QB making the Chiefs competitive but I know if you put this same poll on the Browns website last year youd get the same reuslts. Once coaches saw him play they new how to beat him and now he is sitting on the bench. I hope I am wrong and that Thigpen is our QB for many years and wins to come, but im not jumpin on yet.

by thomas4thehall08 on Nov 10, 2008 8:48 AM CST reply actions

I am not so sure it was Anderson

they figured out how to beat as much as the Browns offense.

"But what do I know, I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"

Anderson

Don’t forget that he still threw a boatload of INT’s last year (19) in addition to his 29 touchdowns.

Thigpen is, in my opinion, already better than Anderson. In his last 3 games he has shown uncanny smarts with the ball. Whether it’s his decisions for throws or his ability to escape the pocket and scramble to the sidelines safely.

Three things stand out to me in the last 3 games.
No INT’s
No Fumbles
and I think he’s only been sacked once

I don’t think Anderson has had a 3 game stretch like that. In fact, there aren’t many QB’s that can make that claim this season. I’d wager the list is short.

i’ve been a thigpen supporter since day one. and still proud to be one. i hope he continues to play well this season win us some games and become starting qb next year and get us into the play offs.

by nfamous209 on Nov 10, 2008 10:32 AM CST reply actions

We're not ready to annoint Bones just yet

But the dude vaguely reminds us of Steve Young in how he scrambles or at least appears to scramble on every play? Yes, no? Maybe not the same brains but good instincts.

Hopefully, he can keep it up, we thinks Whitlock was a bit harsh saying he couldn’t cut it as a starter based on that PAT attempt. That decision making could come with time, for now we’re cautiously optimistic about the rest of this season.

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Nov 10, 2008 4:06 PM CST reply actions

Save my seat on the TT Bandwagon...

For anyone that wants it… Cause you won’t catch me in it. Good for him, good story, but same ol’ Peterson and Edwards show. Sorry for the negativity and all, but getting excited about the Chiefs getting “close to winning” is like getting excited about gas getting down to $3/gallon. At least everyone is getting conditioned.

My fear is, is that all these close losses are going to lead to false hope and optimism in the Peterson/Thigpen camp, and we aren’t going to look to upgrade at the QB. At least when the Derek Anderson debacle occurred in Cleveland, or the Tommy Gunn debacle occurred in Pittsburg a few years back, there was reason for optimism when they failed. Not saying TT will be a debacle, but chances are we need to be ready for it.

So who are the top 3 QBs in the draft or free agency in 2009?

by KCAl on Nov 10, 2008 5:36 PM CST reply actions

That's the problem.

J.P. Losman?

Alex Smith?

Tim Tebow?

Graham Harrell?

Are you really willing to go with those guys for a ton more money over Bones who hasn’t thrown a pick in three games?

Ridiculous Upside: All the "Almost NBA" info you can handle!

by Ridiculous Matt on Nov 11, 2008 12:47 PM CST up reply actions

I'd rather eat shit soup

than bring in Losman or Smith. Losman actually looks like a smaller, worse version of Thigpen. Smith has carny-hands and will likely never live up to his draft pick status (see Tim Couch).

I like Harrell in that list, especially if he falls out of the 1st round.

Tebow can go blow a goat, I’m calling his NFL career a bust right meow.

I’m with you Matt, I don’t think there is going to be a lot out there that will be considered an upgrade to Bones, especially if he continues on the trend he’s already on.

Here is your list of 2009 projected FA QB’s. Topping that list – Kurt Warner and Kerry Collins. Thanks but no thanks.

Here is the list of projected 2009 QB draft prospects (minus underclassmen that may declare). There are some decent signal-callers on that list, but I’d wager most of them would do well to spend a year developing behind Thig-newton at least.

For our sake, I actually hope Bones-newton becomes what we need him to be. If not, oh well, keep it movin’.

by Ochophosphate on Nov 11, 2008 2:16 PM CST up reply actions

and for the record

there’s no way in hell that Chase Daniel is 6’1" as listed in that QB draft roster… maybe in his cleats while standing on concrete.

by Ochophosphate on Nov 11, 2008 2:19 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed completely on Tebow.

Honestly, the only guy I would even want on my team would be Harrell. And only then if we can get him in the 3rd round.

Just say no to all of the others…

by rockchalk on Nov 11, 2008 11:48 PM CST up reply actions

Be careful here with Graham Harrell

could be a classic case of top WR making the QB look great. Dwayne Bowe JaMarcus Russell anyone? Not saying Harrell won’t be great, just would like to see more without Crabtree is all.

If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.

by Red Shadow on Nov 11, 2008 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

Keep in mind there have been QB's before Harrell

To be successful at Tech. He may just be another product of Mike Leach. Where are those other guys at now?

Indecision is the key to flexibility

by cmpotter on Nov 11, 2008 9:08 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, but it has been made clear that Harrell is an entirely different animal.

B.J. Symons, Kliff Kingsbury those kind of guys; it was pretty obvious they were system QBs. They put up great stats, sure, but they didn’t look all that good doing it, and all only started one year. Harrell, however, has started three entire seasons, and possesses much better skills than all of the others.

Sure, his stats are given a healthy boost because of Mike Leach’s genius scheme and offensive system, but he looks much better doing it as opposed to the other Tech QBs.

There are some concerns still, sure, not the least of which revolve around him having a WR as awesome as Michael Crabtree to throw to and the system, but I like him more than just about every other QB coming out.

by rockchalk on Nov 11, 2008 11:51 PM CST up reply actions

Kingsbury I think started three years aswell

unless he threw for 12,429……..95tds………..and set 39 school records,13 big 12 records and 7 NCAA records in one season. That being said, I like that Harrell is a coaches son and he has good size to play under center in the NFL. He will be someone to look at and will probably be drafted high. He should definately not be compared with Jamarcus Russell because Russell wasn’t a great passer anyway.

Indecision is the key to flexibility

by cmpotter on Nov 12, 2008 12:19 AM CST up reply actions

I would have agreed with this before...

I used to think the exact same thing… system QB… WR’s make him look good… yada yada

So I actually started watching him play. I think I’ve watched the last 3-4 Tx Tech games in their entirety and it changed a lot of my preconceived notions about Harrell.

I’ve watched him do some interesting things…like:
-look off safety coverage to open up a WR.
-Even though Tech is a spread team, he does take a fair amount of snaps under center… and he runs play action well.
-While he can run, he usually scrambles while keeping his eyes downfield. He’s a pass first guy and he’s crafty when out of the pocket.
-He throws a very nice out route – even fairly deep ones. There has been some talk about his arm strength, but from what I’ve seen he puts some good zip on it. Not only that but his timing is such that the ball is halfway there when the WR turns to make the catch – he knows how to do it right.
-He throws a very good fade route in the end zone – it’s either going to his WR or nobody.

As to your Crabtree theory, there might be some truth there, but that team is loaded with WR talent. Harrell in no way locks on to Crab, he spreads the ball around to just about everyone. It may be a case of Crab drawing more attention and freeing up the other guys… but then again it may not.

So all I suggest is that you try to catch the next Tech game that is on TV – which will be the game vs. Oklahoma. Oklahoma has a sound D – so just watch what Harrell does and how he does it. You may find yourself a convert like me.

by Ochophosphate on Nov 12, 2008 8:48 AM CST up reply actions

All good points except...

….I don’t agree with the “Oklahoma has a sound D”. OU has a lousy D and the only chance they have is to outscore Tech. They are capable of that. If the O/U on this game is less than 90 then take the Over. The only way it won’t be is if the same Tech defense shows up that played the Horns. If they hit Bradford early a couple of times, look for a lot of hurried passes.

This game should solidify Harrell and Crabtree for the top at both of their respective positions though. Look for them both to post career numbers. And then watch the pundits goop all over themselves suggesting Tech is the greatest offense ever to play college football. And if OU’s special team coverage is as lousy as it has been all season, the game will even be more lop-sided. It all depends on if the Tech that played the Huskers shows up or the one that played OSU and Texas. The game is in Norman, though.

BTW – I’m not an OU or a Tech fan by any stretch. K-State is my team sadly enough. Oh and I am still not a Tyler Thigpen fan… : )

by KCAl on Nov 14, 2008 4:09 PM CST up reply actions

agreed

I’m probably giving Oklahoma’s D too much credit. This is a down year for their D, which is usually strong.

I just noticed that I managed to italicize most of my above post for no good reason at all. I must have failed to break my html. I’m a douche.

I’m not an OU fan either, in fact I despise them as I am a MU fan/alum. I am not a Tech fan either… and will probably have to watch them dismantle MU in the Big 12 championship game if Tech wins this weekend. I like Texas in the south but mostly because my little sister is currently attending.

I am becoming a Thigpen fan. At least he’s giving me something to watch for the rest of the season.

by Ochophosphate on Nov 14, 2008 5:51 PM CST up reply actions

No one was harder on Thigpen than me

however, sometimes we have to admit that we are NOT coaches and don’t see what they see. I apologize for saying (in another spot) after game 3 that I would be asking Ty to super size it next year. Kudos to Gailey for adjusting the offense to fit his talent

by KHAZAD on Nov 11, 2008 10:01 PM CST reply actions

The thing is

Will Gailey be allowed to run the offense that fits the guys we have, or is it going to go back to run, run , run? Herm wanted Gailey because of his experience, and ability to develop a scheme to fit the players we have. Herm himself wants a run first power offense. If we do not have/get the personnel to do that, will he still try to force that offense, when it clearly would not fit? Another Tech guy we need is Mankind, the right guard! 6’7" 354 pounds!

by Eric Allen on Nov 12, 2008 4:00 PM CST up reply actions

The whole Tech line

has been pretty damn impressive this season. If you watch the games, Harrell has a millennium to decide where to throw on some plays. They’ve done a great job keeping pressure off of him, as well as opening gaping holes for the Tech RB’s to flow through. It may be one of the best, if not the best line(s) in the Big 12.
