Jared Allen fined $50k for hits on Schaub
Our long lost sack machine seems to have developed a nasty streak this season. Or perhaps now that he is the league's highest paid defensive player, more attention is paid to his actions. Jared was fined $50k for two hits on Matt Schaub in last Sunday's game, one of which damaged the MCL in Schaub's left knee. The full story on NFL.com can be read here.
I know Allen was somewhat controversial at times while in KC, mostly for his off-field issues. But I don't remember him causing a lot of fuss on field, especially for roughing the passer penalties eventually resulting in fines (one late hit and two below-the-knee shots). He always seemed to play pretty clean while in KC. I haven't seen any of the hits that he got fined for, but I may try to track down the replay of those hits on Schaub to see how bad they were.
One thing that doesn't seem to have changed is his mouth. He seems to like the "woe is the defender" position that has been taken up by a lot of defenders lately. I personally don't think the game has suffered much due to this heightened stance on QB safety. Most of the rules seem to be logically sound in my book.
So I have two questions for everyone.
1. How much of an impact do you think Allen would have had on this year's KC team, positive or negative?
2. Do you agree with Allen's stance on the rules being too much in favor of QB's and/or of offensive players in general?
I certainly think Allen would have racked up several sacks for us and has certainly left a hole on our D-line. But if he were having the same year here as he were having in Minnesota, would it just be another added distraction? At what point would he have demanded a trade to a contender, or blown up about our losing season? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Good riddance
Look no further for footage of the hits than here: http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/11/07/allen-fined-50000/
I wouldn’t want anyone who plays that dirty to ever wear a Chiefs uniform. He would have helped our defense this year no question, buts its not worth having him on our team. He’s terribly ignorant and nothing but trouble. In my opinion Branden Albert alone was worth trading him for and I’m glad he’s on someone elses team embarassing himself now
I say Good Riddance!

yeah
looking at that video, on neither play did he have his hands out to attempt to “tackle” the QB. In fact, he tucks his head and rolls into Schaub’s knee with his back and the back of his helmet. No wonder he got fined for those hits.

That was flagrant and excessive
he didnt even try to tackle the QB, just watch his arms. I am glad it was $50K, I wish it was $500K.

The second one was bad
But, honestly, the first one wasn’t that bad.

I agree
The second one you can see him slip which is why he was low in the first place. I don’t think either hit was necessarily dirty in that he was intentionally trying to cripple the guy, I think it was him trying to get to the QB any way he could, but he definately took several steps before going right into the QBs knee on that second one especially. He should have been more careful about that.

They do seem to be giving alot of boderline legal hits fines.
The one on Bollinger that got someone fined was a perfect tackle. I can not load the site here at work, stupid barcuda web blocker, but I will watch them and see when I get home in about three hours.
But if he was still a Chief this year I think that the defense would be alot better. They would still be a bad team but they would not be losing by so much. Last two weeks not included.

Justin Tuck
Was the player that tackled Bollinger and flagged. The NFL apparently planned to fine him as well but Roger Goodell intervened and rescinded the fine once he saw the tape.

That was a perfect tackle (technique and timing)
Goodell knew they should bring in the flag football uniforms if that fine was going to stand.
