The Chiefs released quarterback Ingle Martin to clear roster room for the signing of safety Oliver Celestin. That means the Chiefs will go with only Tyler Thigpen and Quinn Gray as QBs for Sunday's game at San Diego.
Look for Martin to re-sign with the Chiefs on Monday.
I guess they can always put Bradley in in an emergency. :)

Injuries to Page and Morgan
Is the reason for signing the new safety. Just so no one jumps to conclusions. :)
While Martin Doesn't Appear To Be A Viable Starter
Why would any sane coach go with just two QBs on the roster behind this offensive line? The offense has looked better, but Thigpen still got hit last week (including getting shaken up once) and it’s not like the Chiefs haven’t gone through two QBs in one game before during this season,

Definitely a risk, but I don't blame them
In part, I think it’s because Thigpen and Gray appear to be much tougher athletes that Croyle and Huard. Also, perhaps because Ingle Martin isn’t that much of an upgrade from hiking the ball to Cox or Bradley in an emergency. There’s also a balance with other positions because the active roster is a zero sum game where extra people at one position limits back-ups elsewhere. With the DBs banged up and some even playing hurt, I’m guessing it’s a calculated risk that says it’s more likely the Chiefs will need to send in a new safety or cornerback moreso than a third QB.
Hopefully the “active” status thing goes away soon and teams can dress all the people on their roster. Seems like that should be a bigger issue with the NFLPA than it is. This Sunday points to how it can even be somewhat of a safety, further-injury concern.
One Would Hope
I agree that considering the injury risks the active roster each week is set pretty low. We’ll see if they hash it out, but right now the NFLPA and NFL don’t appear to be on the same page at all…possibly because the NFLPA’s a bit rudderless without Upshaw.

Other positions where guys are already hurting
We have a lot of players on this team that are already injured or playing hurt that they don’t want to stick on IR because they can come back but right now they’re in a tough spot regarding the roster.
Page and Morgan are both hurt at Safety and evidently at least one of them will be out since they signed this guy.
DJ is out for sure and Donnie Edwards is in and out every week at LB
Surtain is hurt and though they are planning to play Flowers, a Hamstring can be pretty tricky and he might not make it through the game. Leggett proved he isn’t ready to play CB just yet so they signed the two new CBs.
The Chiefs are dealing with a lot of injury issues right now where they have to make sure they’re covered and have enough guys to put on the field. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to be worrying about a 3rd string QB when they’re going to be stretching it in some cases to even field viable starters at others positions.

LB Derrick Johnson (hamstring), CB Pat Surtian (quad), CB Brandon Flowers (hamstring) and DE Turk McBride (shoulder) are all listed as questionable for the game. They did not take part in the team’s one-hour workout Friday morning. Limited in work in that session were Page and Morgan.
If McBride does not play, there’s a good chance four of the playes that joined this team this week could be active for Sunday’s game: Celestin, David Macklin, Ricardo Colclough and Wallace Gilberry.

That Donnie Edwards signing is just paying huge dividends these days. You’d at least hope to get two productive years out of a three year contract. Since he’s scheduled to make $5 million in base salary next year, I would hope he’s not on our 2009 roster unless he can show that chronic injuries aren’t going to be the norm for him from here on out.
Seriously, what is the deal with the Chiefs’ strength and conditioning program? Injuries are an inevitable part of football, but when you’ve got this many guys going down with non-contact injuries, especially with hamstrings and muscle pulls, you’ve got to seriously question just what kind of physical training the coaching staff is doing with the team.

What is with DuJuan Morgan?
Seriously was he a waste of a draft pick? Here again on defense we look for atleast someones back-up, not a practice squad guy. This favoratism for defense quality, over offense is really going to screw us at a crucial point in the future.

Morgan is getting more playing time on defense than Pollard did his rookie season. When they drafted the guy they said he was primarily going to be a Special Teams player at first and thats pretty much what he’s been.
Don’t know what you’re talking about with the defensive favoritism. In the first three rounds since Herm arrived we’ve drafted 7 defensive players and 5 offensive players. Considering when Herm arrived we (thought we) had a good offense and a bad defense, that isn’t surprising. In 2008 they drafted 3 and 3 in the first three rounds.

We did have other needs than at safety. There was another guard sitting there that would have made an immediate impact, we seen him on Sunday, I thought he played rather well for a rookie, Zuttah.
Agree With Eric
DaJuan Morgan was not a good draft pick for us…he’s a reserve safety, we desperately needed offensive linemen and Zuttah’s been a good one so far (and was available at that pick and wasn’t a reach). I haven’t seen anything from Morgan to indicate that he was good enough for us to pass on a guy who would be starting as a rookie at a critical need position. It was a terrible selection.
