Nice
I can’t imagine these two CB’s being much better than Patterson and Brackenridge, but the fact that Colcough was a 2nd rounder is at least a bit intriguing.
And they’re both considerably more experienced than the guys we cut.
Gilberry looks interesting. He was first-team All SEC as a Senior…can’t suck too badly, right?
I took Herm's comments as they were looking at another running back
"But what do I know, I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"
I guess they think we're good with Charles, Savage, and Battle
Speaking of Charles
Anyone want to say we should have drafted another O-lineman instead of Charles now? =)
Can you imagine?
the only runningbacks on our roster now would be two UDFA’s from Oklahoma State and Houston
Interesting
I get pretty into the NFL draft each year, and these are guys that had a little wind in their sails going into their respective drafts. I think Colclough is the only player to ever be drafted out of Tusculum (sp?). They both have some obvious talent. Whether that is able to translate into helping KC at all, or whether they are just live bodies for our very young and ailing secondary, who knows?
Roster Tryout
Looks like we have some tryouts for CBs while LJ and Surtain are out. When LJ comes back next week, we have to cough up a roster spot — likely one of those CB’s. This is just a short-term solution until we can find a permanent 3 or 4th corner in either free agency or the draft. If they impress, I also would not be surprised if we move Surtain to IR, since he has been injured so much of the season.
We moved TJ Jackson to the practice squad (and he was inactive most of the time). The Gilberry move allows them to have an extended tryout for a guy that was otherwise vouched for on a practice squad for a very good team (best DL in the NFL). We have to keep him for 3 weeks, but he can just take Jackson’s inactive Gameday spot. Smart pickup for long-term DE depth.
DeAngelo Hall?
If Oakland cuts him could he find a home here perhaps? I honestly haven’t paid attention to how he’s done there, but it can’t be good if he’s threatened with getting cut.
have you seen my baseball?
He's just overpaid
And we can get him for about half a million for this season alone, but if he’s injured during that span we’ll commit $16 million to him. Not worth it due to the state of our team and the fact that he’s a jackass. I’m happy with our corners.
Hall
I think if he clears waivers we’re not actually on the hook for the injury bonuses. But I agree he’s probably not a good fit here. He’s a Cover-2 corner, which is a good thing, but he’s world-class moron on the field and we’ve already got enough problems dealing with LJ. Someone will grab him and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Dallas. They need help on their defense badly.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.
Colclough
Will probably see some time returning punts or kickoffs in Charles spot whenever savage isn’t in there. Since Charles is the starting RB this week I dont think they would want him returning kicks as well.
I think
Robinson will likely get any returning duties that Savage/Charles don’t get…
after all, we drafted him as a return specialist =)
Agreed!
Hard to make the starting squad with what NY has already. If he is half as good as the players the Giants have starting, than he is already better than the pass-rush we have. I think we made the right move putting Hali on the left side and McBride on the right, but it doesn’t hurt to take a chance on a player that could help the pass rush.
Maklin?
Go Mizzou!
/Wait, huh?
//Not that one?
///I’m not an MU fan?
////very confused.

I think of the two corners we just signed one is eventually going to be our nickel.
The other will be cut after LJ returns from suspension. We can then move Leggett into our 4th cornerback spot. Macklin reminds me of Mighty Mouse (Mark McMillian), he might actually be a good fit at our nickel.
Blech
A few more “Ginger” Boiman signgings, eh?
I like the news of Gillbery. He inked a 3 year contract so maybe he has a future with us. I haven’t realized except for the last 2 games the lack of depth we have at CB. I realize it along w/ RT, MLB, and QB are our biggest positions to address in the draft. I’d like to see the following positions picked the following rounds next year:
#1)MLB
#2)RT
#3)QB
#4)CB
Just think we were wanting to move Surtain for draft picks before the deadline. If we had, we’d be hurting right now and its an interesting arrangment for Patrick who has newfound job security despite his inside our youth movement

Guard
I think our starting 2 corners have been decided for next year, leaving us in need of a nickel and dime corners. While these are important, I think they can be handled through free agency. I think we are in more need of an offensive guard (or two) to e drafted in the early rounds next year. I think round 3 or 4 would be a good spot to pick up some guards. We might be able to get a decent QB in round 3 but that pushes us into round 4 for our guard; I think it will come down to who is available.
I'd rather have Jones playing next season than McIntosh
and Waters still has at least another good season in him. So Guards in my opinion can wait till the 2010 draft though I won’t argue it’s a need of ours. It just a matter of prioritizing our positional needs. For instance I don’t think its fair to draft another defensive lineman in the top 3 rounds. We’ve been working on it for the past 3 drafts and though I won’t argue we need a good RE, we do already have 2 1st rounders, a 2nd, and a 3rd playing. Comparatively our linebacker corps is in much worse shape and needs more attention. But I agree with you completely about not selecting our lineman in later rounds as thats gotten us nowhere with Brett Williams, Jordan Black, Kevin Sampson, Tre Stallings, Will Svitek, and probably others I’m forgetting. Lines are something to build around and ideally we wouldn’t choose any lineman past the 3rd round.

Realistically
Jones is probably more expendable than McIntosh because of their contracts, so I wouldn’t bitch if we drafted a RG in the top 3 rounds(I believe this draft class is full of Guards anyway) and had McIntosh play out one more season of his contract before we cut his ass. What worries me recently about our RT position though is the signing of Andrew Carnahan. I’m worried about it because I wonder if Barry Richardson is the next name on the list above. I just hate seeing draft picks not work out, no matter what round they’re chosen. I think it’s safe to say we have a proven record that drafting lineman in late rounds is fools play
