Why is it?
We have 13 defensive backs on our roster, and we keep cutting young linebackers who shown some promise? Why is it defensive backs are so important? I do not understand how one of the weakest points of our defense gets so little attention. Is it Herm, or is it Gun pushing for these moves? Gretz reports that Dacus was released, to make room on the roster for Burton, and if he clears waivers he will be put on the practice squad? I think the biggest reason for so many d-backs, of Herm his former position has to be the most important positions on the field. Well thats all I got what say you?

Dacus
From the Star:
Cornerback Patrick Surtain (quad), linebackers Weston Dacus (knee) and Donnie Edwards (knee and ankle) and end Tamba Hali (knee) did not participate Thursday. Defensive tackle Tank Tyler (hip) and end Alfonso Boone (back) were limited.
Herm Edwards said Hali and Tyler were "50-50" as to whether they might be available Sunday against the Raiders. After end Turk McBride was placed on injured reserve last week, that leaves rookie Glenn Dorsey as the only healthy starting lineman.
They cut Dacus, who was injured and possibly wouldn’t be able to play, to bring another DT on the roster because theres a chance we could have 4 D-linemen out this week.
Look on the roster of any team and you will see a lot of DBs because they are used as Special Teams players because they “usually” are faster than the rest of the guys on the team and have experience tackling so they can get down the field in a hurry to cover kickoffs and punts.

Not to mention
nickel and dime packages – we rarely have more than 3 LB’s on the field at a time, but can have 6 DB’s on the field at once.

There are not 13 DBs on the roster anyway
6 CBs (1 being Surtain who has been injured for a long time)
5 Safeties
6 LBs

I was goin by Gretz. Still 11 d-backs six lbs.
OK you made the case for Dacus, what about Walden? You mentioned special teams, he was one of our players who actually produced on special teams.

Who knows?
They never put Walden on the field playing LB on defense. Considering how bad of shape we were in with the LBs due to injuries, I can only see that as a sign that he was a long ways away from being a solid contributor on defense.
The Dolphins picked Walden up after we cut him and he has been inactive up until this last game and only played on Special Teams for them as well.

I'm sitting here watching a young man play the game of his life for Georgia
Rennie Curran, soph LB for Georgia is tearing the field up with great plays against GTech right now. Only strike against him may be his size. 5"11 220lbs. Hes fast strong and seems very instinctive.
