Why did he get that promo shot done in a Starbucks? H/T Primetime in the FanShots

One of my favorite Schottenheimer stories is when Elvis Grbac was named Sexiest NFL player and when asked about it, Schottenheimer said, "Who won? Gannon?"

Back in a bit, talking stats.

Go Calgary!

Nothing like beating a bunch of french bastards in the Grey Cup!

by Ben S on Nov 25, 2008 7:17 AM CST reply actions

I just flew home from Montreal !!!

Yeah baby we won it !!!! A great time had by all Calgarians that attended the event !!! What a town – WOW !!! those people know how to party !!

Here’s an except of the email I sent to my Mom earlier (as she helped put the trip together for me) and some of my friends who couldn’t make the trip !!

"Me and my two buddies (Okay mom, I know it’s my two buddies and I) were in the right place at the right time and got invited to and attended the Stampeders Team after party at the Hyatt. WOW !! Everyone was there Players, Owners, Coaches, Cheerleaders, Family, media – it was FCUKING AWESOME. I held the Grey Cup over my head – I have a bundle of stories from this trip !!!

(Quick story) – we are walking into the (after) party and one of the fellas I used to play hockey with and who is also one of the principal owners of the Stamps – sees me walk in the door and yells halfway across the room “JOEY glad you could make it – thanks for coming out to support the team, come on in it’s PARTY TIME”. He comes up, wraps his arms around me and gives me a big hug !!!

Well suffice to say it was ON after that….. And it was ON !!!

Yeeehaaaa……..Stamps Win !!!

Anyway I’m recovering at home today – I have no voice at all. Hand signals only for the rest of today. Yes we all need to hook up for a chat – Call me later this week.

What!?

A fellow Calgarian?! Nice! Lucky to go to the game! I was stuck at home watching the game, but exciting none the less!

It was

Unbelievable baby !! I bought a new ($160) “Chapeau du Cowboy” (Cowboy hat) before I left. Not one of the white straw Stampede hats that are so popular around home – but a real nice Beaver Felt Stetson. What a good call…… and did THAT work out well (WOW). Everyone wants to touch it, try it on.

Best line of the weekend……..

So tell me…. are you a real cowboy ??

Damn straight baby, stick around, have some fun – tonight we ride !!

by HankerChief on Nov 25, 2008 1:10 PM CST up reply actions

Hah!

Nothing like having people think that everyone from Calgary is a cowboy! That must have been a great trip, if I had the dough I would have gone as well. Those are the nice hats as well, I get a little tired of seeing everybody with the white hats in Calgary anyways, although they are much cheaper!

by Ben S on Nov 25, 2008 2:45 PM CST up reply actions

The hat was about representing the team and our city !!

as you know whenever a dignitary comes to town – our Mayor welcomes them w/ a Cowboy hat. It’s part of the whole hokey welcome to the west (Cowtown) thing !! There were many people wearling Cowboy Hats this past weekend. It’s just that mine was the nicest :)

I’m no Cowboy but I have ridden a bull (stupid me- lost a bet), ridden a bareback horse (really stupid me – that hurt – long story) and I drove truck as a kid in the oil patch as well as hauling logs for a year. All that before I went back to school as a mature student and got myself all smarted up :)

I think that qualifies me as being allowed to wear that hat !!

FYI – when I travel on business – the hat stays home.

Gunther's Lost His Freaking Mind
"I’m probably coaching better this year than I have in a long time,"

Coaching is about results and how the team responds to the coach, not about how the coach feels about himself. If your team is competing for last at what it does, by definition you’re not doing a good job of coaching…especially if your organization has been giving you all of the players you want.

"The Chargers game was one of the highlights of my coaching career even though we lost. We had so many injuries. To do the things we had to do to get through that game and fight them until the end and have a chance to win, that was pretty good.

That would be the game where Herm went for two because he had no confidence in his defense to hold the Chargers in overtime.

If I’ve improved in one area, it’s how to nurture young players and how to teach them in the classroom and on the grass.

The defensive line is full of young players and most of them are playing worse than the rookie on the line (Dorsey). The linebacking corps, which he took personal control of in the offseason, went from being a relative strength to the team’s biggest weakness in the course of one year.

I’ve had to do things I’ve never had to do before because there are so many young people around me. I can’t even begin to tell you how much more of a teacher you have to be than when you have veteran players

The veterans in the linebacking corps and defensive line are playing worse than the rookie too.

Coach Herm Edwards agreed with Cunningham’s assessment, saying the entire defensive staff, the coordinator included, would be invited to return next season.

"He’s doing something he hasn’t done in a long time, but he can do this and he’s enjoying it," Edwards said.

Go ahead Herm and Carl apologists…tell me that these guys have any clue what he’s doing out there or that they’re even remotely interested in winning more games this season.

It’s not about wins and losses, it’s about whether or not the coaching staff is enjoying their jobs.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Please San Diego State

Take Herm back.

Something I was thinking too

The question every team asks after beating the Chiefs: Should we even be impressed we did this?

I was thinking about this last night but never looked into the stats. What are the records of the teams that just beat us for the games after they play us??? New Orleans didn’t seem to see their win over us as an insignificant blip.

Blame my wife!

It used to be that other teams when realizing it was the week they travelled to Arrowhead

they were like “No, Not again!” Now its become like a sight seeing tour. “Let’s Do That Again!”

As far as NFL vs CFL players

Let me start by saying I LOVE football – period !! I love the NFL, I love the CFL and I love College ball.

CFL is a totally different game from either NFL or NCAA. The field is LONGER, WIDER and the endzone is 25 yards deep. Yes, you are right that most CfL players couldn’t make it in the NFL. Most that play here don’t have the size to compete in the NFL. Speed yes, size no !!!

(According to Mick :) I believe this is from Rocky II or III)
“We need speed. Greasy, lightning fast SPEED. Speed is what we need” – (now catch that chicken:) – great line.

But there are many that have and a few that could make the transistion. Let’s name a few that have transitioned sucessfully. Ummmmmmm….

Theisman, Moon, Flutie, Garcia, (Kenton) Keith (played in indy last year), Boerigter (remember him – caught 8 T.D.’s for the beloved Chiefs ??). Gee wiz….might there be a couple Hall of Famers in there ??

There are many more and they have played at a number of different positions. I don’t believe that Cameron Wade differs significantly in size from Dwight Freeny (Indy). Now I’m not saying that he’s the solution for our (K.C.‘s) pass rushing woes – but it wouldn’t cost us a draft pick to find out either !!! He WAS drafted by the NFL, got hurt, wasn’t able to show himself in camp. So he was released and spent a year recovering. Let’s just say he’s healthy now and not long for the CFL. K.C. should take a flyer on this guy – he’s seriously fast, strong and has a motor doesn’t quit. That said – he played for the B.C. lions – and I HATE the lions.

I’ll tell you this – he was in our backfield all year long – I hope he gets a call from the south – I’ve seen enough of his ass…

Consider this;

This year K.C. has signed and cut guys like never before…… I think (know) that Wade is worth a contract offer – bring him to camp and let’s see what he can or can’t do – what’s the Harm (Edwards:)

by HankerChief on Nov 25, 2008 12:22 PM CST reply actions

OOOPS

He was signed as a free agent not drafted as I had previouosly claimed. My bad. He’s badder !!

by HankerChief on Nov 25, 2008 12:34 PM CST up reply actions

Now THAT's an idea !!

He’s certainly fast enough – I attended both regular season and the one play-off game they (he) played here this year. So I’ve seen this guy play and he’s a terror. Good call on a possible linebacker spot. If possible – he definitely warrants a look.

Herm go to to san diego state

There is zero chance of this happening..First off why would herm leave the chiefs voluntarily (the best job he will ever get) for some college football team that isn’t even known for being good at football..It’s not gonna happen..Herm seems to like nfl anyways..I’d love to see him gone tho..Love it..Someone needs to pay for these two seasons..

Hey herm, ever heard of free agency? I realize we’re rebuilding but that doesn’t mean we can’t sign a few studs through free agency..If they can’t learn their lesson after this year then next year should be interesting because our linebackers, o line, and d line need some help..
