Salary Discussion

The current salaries for certain players is outrageous. 6 of the top 15 salaries are from players who have no right earning the salary that they currently have; however, sometimes the leadership and knowledge of the older players is invaluable.

That being said who's outrageous salary would you like to see go within the 2009 offseason?

With your vote please respond to whom you would like to fill their void.

I end in Cato-esque fashion with...

Brandon Spikes in '09.

Because

He’s the most money. He’s doing the most damage. He makes 2 1/2 times as much as McIntosh.

and plays two and a half times less?

McIntosh

with Barry Richardson, or maybe actually pick up a “good” FA… I think Herb should be our back-up LT hes good there.

DVD replace with Bradley….oops that already happened

Huard- I like you but he’ll be gone after this season

Donnie- see above

Surtain- see above/trade for a pick/maybe keep

by DT58forever on Nov 20, 2008 2:54 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Hmm...

I wouldn’t mind all 5 cut/retired/traded.

Hopefully we’d get some compensatory picks.

by Dono on Nov 20, 2008 3:03 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

doesn't work that way

You only get compensatory picks if you lose them to free agency. All these guys have to be cut traded or retire.

understood

Hes def. making too much money for no play

by DT58forever on Nov 20, 2008 2:55 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Also...

Is it sad that our free agency pick ups during the 2008 regular season have been better than the pick ups in the offseason?

For instance:

Bradley vs. Darling
Boiman vs. D. Williams

by Dono on Nov 20, 2008 3:06 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

It Is Sad

I didn’t like the Demorrio Williams signing when it happened, and now it’s looking positively disastrous. That’s two free agent linebackers in the last two years who’ve been judged “not good enough to start” on a defense that desperately needs linebackers…within a year of their signing.

You know, I’ve honestly about had it with Gunther’s bullshit as a coach here. He wanted to micromanage the linebackers because he believed he could get results and the guy he wanted who was signed to replace Harris is now considered less promising than Harris (because the Chiefs have him on the bench in the first year of the contract). I’m really hoping at this point that if coaching changes are made this offseason he’s on the chopping block right after Herm. Three years of mediocrity followed by one season of complete failure is quite enough.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Agreed.

Gunther needs to go.

I still love him, but we need a new, fresh-blood sorta DC.

Williams

I have seen flashes from him this year that I would like to see him once his hand is totally healed. Also I don’t think he was brought in to replace Harris, Williams is not built to be the MLB and has always played outside as far as I can remember. There were some rumors he would replace Donnie and Donnie would replace Harris.

All Of Them

Cutting Surtain actually saves us money next year because the cap hit will be less than his salary if we keep him. None of the rest have any real value to us on the field. Donnie’s done, Devard’s not good enough to keep. The only one on the list who might have a future is Williams, and that’s a fairly slim “might”.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

i like

D-Williams hes fast, and has good coverage skills

by DT58forever on Nov 20, 2008 3:08 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Oh Yeah...

I forgot to mention, as long as Carl Peterson is GM of the Chiefs there is no way that the team will ever release Larry Johnson. Carl’s got too much of a man crush on Larry and his success is solely dependent on the fact that Carl was the one responsible for drafting Larry in 2003. Thanks Carl.

None are as nauseating...

as what ever we were paying roid raging, Bible humping Sweeney.

by HIV 2 Elway on Nov 20, 2008 3:32 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Sweeney Wasn't The Worst Possible Contract

By major league standards it was about average for a producer. Nobody knew his back was going to fall apart like Mattingly’s. And I don’t buy that he was a steroid guy.

The only reason that his contract looked so bad was that the Royals cheaped out everywhere else in the lineup, minors, and scouting department. They were a disgustingly incompetent organization.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Surtain

He is OK, but not what he used to be and not a value at that price. I can easily see the whole group released this off season, but hope DW stays. I hope that DE retires, because I don’t want to just release him due to respect. He is a great LB, but just isn’t able to take it anymore.

All

I think you need to revise the above poll to have an option for all. With the salaries that they all have, i wouldn’t mind seeing everyone of them go.

by skibum1537 on Nov 20, 2008 4:20 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

All of them

I can’t believe they’re paying DeMorrio more than Donnie

by KansasCityShuffle on Nov 20, 2008 10:13 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I Can't Believe They Targeted DeMorrio As Highly As They Did

He was a mediocre linebacker on an absolutely crap defense. At least with Kendrell Bell there was the argument that he was at least outstanding before he blew out his knee. DeMorrio Williams was just a non-descript dude that they paid a better than non-descript contract to. Yet another Peterson highlight.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Kawika Mitchell

I love the spin on this article: http://www.bobgretz.com/chiefs-football/saturday-morning-cup-oe280%99chiefs-11.html

Rather than pay the 5 million a year to Mitchell, we sign DeMorrio at 4 million a year. A LB who hadn’t shown a fraction of the play-making ability Kawika has. Not to mention we drafted him. So, if we can’t dole out big contracts for our OWN draft picks who can we? FA’s that haven’t proven a thing here? I don’t know how much the Harris contract was but it was over 6 years. I’m not saying 10 million isn’t a big guarantee for Mitchell, but its a guarantee that I’d say was well worth it given the level of play hes exhibited this season and last.

I don’t know how Bob Gretz can eat with all the shit over his face from ass kissing Carl & Herm all the time…….

I am pretty sure that Gunther did not want him to leave

seems like a GM decision. And not a good one.

Mitchell VS Williams

They are both OLB’s and are actually both pretty average. Mitchell a first day pick and Williams a second day pick.

Now lets look at there comparison on the field. Mitchell is in the league six years and has 434 tackles in 85 games. Last year it was easy for him to look good considering the D-line and linebackers he had around him. This year he has 56 tackles and is an every day starter.

Williams has been in the league 5 years and has 392 in 74 games. He has 39 tackles this year in limited time on the field due to injury.

In the end they really aren’t that different of player. Neither one is really that much better than the other.

I really can't figure out why Williams isn't playing more

He looked really good in our lone victory against the Broncos. He has good speed and Donnie has been hurt most of the year. And yet, he only plays sparingly.

by TheQ on Nov 22, 2008 5:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't get it either

Not to mention we cut Nap Harris and he is far better than any MLB we have.

I can totally see why there has been so much chatter

questioning the coaching. Personality conflicts? Somethings we don’t see perhaps?

by TheQ on Nov 22, 2008 6:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The problem with the Chiefs situation

They have a dilema on their hands. Do they make a move and fire Herm and clean up the coaching personel or stick with what they have. The problem is that there is going to be a newly renovated stadium in two years. If they don’t have a competitive product it will it could be a tough situation. The price hike to tickets and a poor product will be a bad combo.

Get rid of Herm,

I think Chan may be the right guy to straighten out this team. He knows how to deal with young players, knows that you have to have a veteran mix to help bring the rookies along. Plus he has coaching experience on both sides of the ball.
