Morning Update (Ram It Edition)
I...I...no words...H/T Chiefs Planet
- Kent Babb's been busy as he pens this article about Chiefs fans avoiding going to Arrowhead Stadium for the games.
Question for this morning: Is attendance at the stadium, especially in a poor economy, the best gauge of fan interest? I'd put more stock in television ratings. - Looks like the Bills are currently 3 point favorites over the Chiefs this weekend.
- Chiefs injury notes: Not working at all were receiver Mark Bradley (calf), tight end Tony Gonzalez (knee), linebacker Donnie Edwards (hamstring) and guard Adrian Jones (ankle). Working limited were defensive end Tamba Hali (ankle), safety Jarrad Page (groin) and linebacker Pat Thomas (thigh).
- Bills LB Kawika Mitchell returns to Kansas City this weekend and if came back to the Chiefs, he would easily be the best linebacker on the team.
- Some of The Star columnists- Jason Whitlock and Adam Teicher - have been going back and forth about whether the Chiefs need to pursue a QB or a DE in the first round of the '09 draft. Kent Babb says it should be neither. He wants a middle linebacker. It's really pretty cool how much debate we're getting out of those guys and it makes the conversation that much better.

The Best Comment On That Babb Article
Was this guy:
Give ‘em a break.
We’re close. Real Close.
We’re only one GM, one head coach, an offense line, a defensive line, and a placekicker away from turning the corner.
Be patient.
He forgot to add that we need two more starting linebackers as well, though. :)

Based Off Of That Video
I can see why L.A. Rams fans were some of the most jaded in football. Man, what a horrible piece of work.
Wasn’t one of the Village People a football player?

Kawika Mitchell
Waaay over rated. He really didn’t fit our system at all, for whatever reason, and was only a situational guy on the Giants. I like him, but I’m also glad that he’s gone.

I have to disagree
here are his numbers:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=4505
166 tackles the last 2 years with the Chiefs and 43 assisted tackles. He also had 3.5 sacks total. Pretty solid to me.

2007
82 solo tackles, 34 assisted. 1 Forced Fumble, 1 interception, 1.5 sacks, and 3 passes defensed.
That was Napoleon Harris’s stat-line last year. I’m thinking that there might be more to this than just numbers…

I hear what you're saying, but they're pretty comparable to Kawika's. And Kawika is still playing.
I’m just saying Harris’ numbers aren’t 10 times better then Kawika’s, yet they signed him (Harris) to a $10 Mil. guaranteed signing bonus to the Giants $1Mil for Kawika.

I don't think you understand what I was implying.
I was implying that Mitchell put up similar numbers to a MLB that got cut the next year on a team that doesn’t have a true MLB.
Like I said, I always liked Mitchell. But he wasn’t a good fit for us, and letting him go was a move I’ve never regretted.
Honestly, I just think that Chris is a little too fond of Mitchell, and was pointing out that it wasn’t a bad move to let him walk.

I disagree
Compared to what we have now…Kawika was and is a steal. He was an impact in NY to a degree and had a great game on Monday night with Buffalo.
My point is that he was a cheap acquisition and still could have played well here…instead we get Harris that’s no longer here (and rich I might add) and I recall vaguely seeing him suit up once.

I love the article about trading down for Maualuga
I also love that I suggested it weeks ago in a comment on a fanpost. I am a pretty smart guy!

Laurinitis
I still think Laurinitis will be the better MLB initially and stay great for years to come. I think Maualaga relies too much on athletic potential and not enough on study/preparation. Maualaga has a better “upside” in his potential, but Laurinitis will come in from day one and prepare for every game; watch endless film, learn to read the opposing offense, and will have the discipline to maintain his assignments (essential for a Cover 2 scheme).
