Ask a Bills blogger
Aloha, Chiefs fans. Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings here, reporting for duty as "that random Bills fan we can ask questions of".
Most of you are probably aware that after a 5-1 start to the season, the Bills have lost four straight - three to division rivals, and one on a second evil rendition of "wide right" on Monday Night Football. Bills fans are feeling pretty masochistic about this team right now. At 5-5, our once-promising playoff hopes are now slimmer than Nicole Richie. A .500 record seems like a longshot to some of us.
That said, there are still some things this team does well. Our special teams are capable of making game-changing plays at any moment. We finally discovered a consistent running game on MNF. Our red, white and blue colors are extremely patriotic. That's about where it ends. Really.
Anything and everything is open to discussion here. I know you guys don't believe yourselves to be in much of a position to poke fun, seeing as your Chiefs are 1-9, but trust me - these Bills deserve it. I'd put your odds at picking up a second win at slightly better than 50/50 this weekend. Fire away!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

What do you guys feel is the main reason Trent Edwards starts over J.P. Losman?
Is it mainly age and potential? Mainly asking this because there has been talk (albeit pre-Thigpen "emergence") of us maybe pursuing him in free agency this offseason, and I’d like to see what a Bills fan thinks of his ability.
by The DBowe Show on Nov 19, 2008 12:01 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
A) Edwards starts because he’s a better player. Age isn’t a factor; potential is. Long-term, Edwards is going to be the better quarterback. That doesn’t mean that #5 will be a good quarterback, mind you – just better than Losman.
B) Physically speaking, Losman is more gifted than 95% of the quarterbacks in the league. But the guy’s a pinhead. He’s cocky, a poor leader, and indecisive at crucial times. He turns the ball over – a lot. For every beautiful, “Holy crap this guy is great” throw he makes, he makes three “How is this guy even in the league?” throws. He’s not happy here, either – he’s been publicly upset with the team ever since we decided not to trade him.
Losman fancies himself a starter and will be a UFA after this season; unless he ends up one of Jon Gruden’s 14 quarterbacks in Tampa Bay, I don’t foresee many teams having interest in him. He’ll be 28 next season.

That's silly
There will be more than a handful of teams interested in the services of Losman. Including ours…
by KansasCityShuffle on Nov 19, 2008 12:20 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Really? Even with Tyler “I’m not Yancey” Thigpen emerging? I don’t see it. Herm Edwards saw Losman first-hand when he was with the Jets in 2005; Losman hasn’t gotten any better since then. Herm is a smarter dude than that.

Not so much with Thigpen emerging
But 5 weeks ago Chiefs fan would have forfeited left nuts for abilities in a QB that Losman possesses. We may not go after him, but to say interest won’t exist I think is way off.
by KansasCityShuffle on Nov 19, 2008 12:25 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I guess there might be interest, but unless teams are willing to offer marginal starter’s pay and a chance to, at a very minimum, compete for a starting position, Losman’s interest will be cool. He’s going to hate going somewhere as a backup. That’s all he is.

With a QB
Hitting the open market there will definitely be interest. Even remotely capable QBs rarely hit the open market.
by Joel Thorman on Nov 19, 2008 1:29 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Kerry Collins seemed to be on the open market quite a bit…
I wouldn’t consider Losman “remotely capable”, even counting his physical gifts. The guy’s the dimmest quarterback I’ve ever seen play – and I watched Rob Johnson, for crying out loud.

We were pretty pissed at Edwards in the Cleveland/Depressing/Steel Belt/Suicide Watch Captiols Bowl
We mean he did complete that one pass & anyone with any sense of empathy hurt after hearing the words “wide right” uttered in Buffalo, but jeez, marshawn literally foisted the entire stadium on his shoulders to make it that close.

Haha. Youboty isn’t going anywhere any time soon, especially since he’s on IR. I would seriously consider trading McCargo for Boone straight up at this point; Boone was with Jauron in Chicago, knows his system, and would see the field on Sundays – something McCargo hasn’t done for a couple of weeks (he’s been a “healthy scratch”).

Thats not part of the deal
It’s a package deal. Boone is a real steal and statistically our best lineman. I’m not worried about injuries; Ashton would have plenty of company on our IR. You’d be losing an underachiever and an injury prone prospect and gaining a vet familiar with the system and an experienced corner for depth which you need. What do you say? : ^ )

because we wanted a MLB who was quick enough to get deep in the Tampa 2 (which is really a Cover 3)…so we signed Napolean Harris…who wasn’t quick enough to get deep in the Tampa 2…so we put Pat Thomas there…who wasn’t quick enough for the Tampa 2 (and we cut Harris)…Pat Thomas was injured, so now Weston Dacus (an UDFA rookie) was starting at MLB, and it looks like he might actually be quick enough to get deep in the Tampa 2…we’ll keep our fingers crossed

The ambiance, or the decor?
Seriously, you’re aware that Marshawn will, without question, break through our secondary and score a touchdown. Christ, LenDale “fatty bo batty” White did it. Seriously, we can’t tackle runners who make a second effort, our linebackers don’t grasp the concept. Even in a loss Lynch will put up ridiculous stats this week, it’s only a matter of how far away from the endzone he is when he breaks free.
Seriously, screw 8 in the box, can we go with 10?
I guess our question is, why is Marshawn so awesome, and how come his stats don’t always reflect this complete and utter awesomeness?
by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Nov 19, 2008 2:08 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Ask a rather alarmingly large contingent of Bills fans, and they’ll tell you that they don’t think Lynch is very good because he “dances too much”. I don’t get it, either.
Lynch is awesome because he’s relentless. I’ve never seen a running back work harder for yardage, and trust me, he’s had to – our line play has been horrendous. His stats are weak because of the aforementioned blocking and because of, well, the blocking.
Marshawn is also awesome because he’s TO without TO’s stupid mouth. He’s entertaining. He’s just the type of guy that any NFL fan loves to watch, because this is what he does. We love the kid.

Chalk up Lynch’s poor stats to these two things:
1. Inconsistent OL play (led by a dismal situation for the Bills at Center)
2. A startlingly predictable offense by Bills’ first-time OC Turk Schonert. Turk has shown glimpses of brilliance, but he’s been outcoached a lot over the bulk of the season.

Niagara Falls?
Is it true what they say, that it is actually a cosmic energy vortex that acts as an aphrodisiac on the ladies? If so, Id be taking chicks there all the time!

I have never been to Niagara Falls, with a lady or otherwise. Falling water doesn’t do it for me. :)

What if?
I know that everyone expects the Bills to come in and crush us, well, at least Lynch by himself, but what is the feeling if we actually pull it off? Are there rumblings about Jauron’s job?
Secondly, if Edwards starts to look shakey this week, do you see Losman going in? Are fans starting to lose confidence in him? I believe that Edwards is a much better QB, but just young, was shaken mentally, and needs his confidence built back up. I think he is accepting to much responsibility on himself and is trying to hard.

I'll take a stab at this one
1. There are definitely “rumblings” in the fan base for Jauron’s job. But there is less than a 0.0001% chance he will ever be let go in the next few years.
2. I think Brian will agree with me on this one that Edwards will play out the season unless he gets injured. Losman has no future in Buffalo, and even though he’s physically gifted, he’ll just never be a winning NFL QB. Edwards does have that potential.

As thefourwinds said…
1) The only rumblings about Jauron’s job come from media and the fan base. Jauron isn’t going anywhere. (And for the record, I’m a fervent supporter of the man.)
2) I highly doubt Losman plays another snap for Buffalo unless Edwards gets hurt.

Nate Clements
What happened there? Did you he just become a UFA and sign elsewhere?
by KansasCityShuffle on Nov 20, 2008 11:10 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yep, UFA. Buffalo wanted to re-sign him, but not for 8 years and $80 million. Now that he’s stinking up the joint in San Fran, I don’t feel so bad watching him leave.

Marshawn- pac 10 balla
In college, I watched Marshawn run all over my Oregon Ducks. I have to wonder though, how can you have a running back from Cal and a quarterback from Stanford? Doesnt that cause problems in the locker room?
by C-7PumpkinSmasher on Nov 21, 2008 11:32 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Theoretically it would, except for the fact that Stanford sucked while Edwards was there. Humility keeps him in line.
